1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: WotC cracking down on proxies, even in non-sanctioned events on: January 14, 2016, 03:12:56 pm
Glad this whole mess turned out the way it did, I guess enough people yelling at wotc makes a difference still. Very Happy

I have most of the stuff I need including the expensive cards, but it's nice to be able to not have to go throw the hassle of texting people/buying to get a random card or two I'm playing around with.

Eh, I more and more feel like that after annus horribilis 2015 has been for magic as a whole, even with the vintage community mostly shielded from it due to its insular nature, should take a clear, unified stance and communicate to wizards that this isn't okay anymore, lest they go full EA. Proxy tournaments seems as fine a hill as any for the eternal players to pick that fight.

I wonder how this relates to shops paying out all the tournament fees in prices, technically they wouldn't run for profit tournaments then, would they?

Well then, this took quite the turn for the worse over night. Let's hope that enough people yell at wotc to affect a change

What is to stop your local store of advertising vintage tournaments, with no mention of Proxy's whatsoever and a simple "call the store if you have any questions" wink wink.  My point is this is the internet, people will find creative ways to sell/advertise things,  Just ask any "Ski Equipment" add on craigslist.  Wizards hasn't profited from the sale of a black lotus since the last sealed box of unlimited left their shelves the better part of 25 years ago, if this is some preemptive attempt at an attack on the reserved list I highly doubt this is the route they would take
I might be missing something here, but what do you substitute ski equipment for? When I checked on craigslist there was actual ski equipment on offer.  Surprised

Mhm, do we know if this is actually wotc policy or just a random guy on their organised play team misunderstanding stuff/ going crazy?

I mean it wouldn't surprise me if they decided on something like this given that they're well, wotc, albeit it seems way too hard to police and impractical to implement. If that's the case getting good locations to play is going to be a pain though.

If only this killed 2 power dudes. : (

It'd be so cool if I could come, but it'd be a pretty big hassle to fly to the US from Europe for a weekend just to play magic.
Can you buy the playmats and get them shipped somehow? Very Happy

Great article. Thank you so much for taking your time and writing something so in-depth. :]

The big problem with their prize structure is that you have to top4 to get something valuable though. Razz

I'm so happy to see WotC support vintage on mtgo at least.
12  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: New card-draw land on: December 14, 2015, 06:18:16 am
Seems a bit durdly to see play in shops imo. All your lands do something better and this only turns up the heat when you're supposed to have won anyway so I doubt you would want it over lockpieces.

I guess there is a skill component in negotiating chops if you end up with 220/130.^_^

I use when not playing with red the following:
4x Steel Sabotage
4x Hurky's Recall

After boarding in any storm deck (must say I have also 4 FOW) and that worked even with chalice unrestricted.

This should be even stronger at this moment due to cotv.

I'm not sure that force of will is really needed in current iterations of storm. I'd sooner run 4 duress, 3 Therapy and 4 git probe to clear the way before "going off." Force is card disadvantage that the deck can't really afford in my opinion.

-Storm
I feel like Dark Petition lists don't have enough things you don't mind pitching to Force either to make it reliable enough to have force+x as your primary plan. However the discard package leaves you super exposed against shops, so I'm not happy with that going into an irl tournament either.

Apparently the overseas qualifier is taking place somewhere near Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on January 2nd or 3rd 2016, netting the winner a spot as well as a flight to Tokyo, which seems like a sweet deal. If only it wasn't at such an inopportune time I'd seriously consider playing in it. q_q
