It's pretty similar to the GW list, just with black Smile

Well played, good sir. Well played. Wink
3  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays: Vintage On a Budget -- GW Beatdown! on: May 23, 2009, 10:51:01 am
To be frank, I have already designed a GWB list that I originally intended to include in my discussion of this article on GW Beatdown.   At the last minute, I decided to save the analysis and presentation of a black splash for a future article.   One of the reasons is that I felt that discussing a black splash would take away from the presentation of GW, since adding a black splash gives you, in many respects, a much stronger deck for the obvious reasons you mentioned.

So Steve, when are we going to see this BWG list of yours? Im dying to see it!!!

The tourney was definatley awesome! i had a great time despite going 3-2 and falling just short of the top 8. The guys that came down from up north were awesome to play with. Please come back for more tournaments. Im pretty sure everyone had a good time. Thanks Justin for keeping the vintage world alive in so cal. I totally agree with and support the DMF summer series!
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: BUG Fish - Innovating Null Rod strategies in Vintage on: May 01, 2009, 08:51:06 am
Hey Guys. Sorry to necro an old thread but i didnt feel it was necessary to create a new one in order to ask my question. If im wrong i apoligize in advance and will create a new thread when instructed to. Anyway, i have been playing BUG for a while now and i think that its really starting to click for me. Im starting to make the correct plays at the correct times and have been reasonably successful with it. All of my testing so far has been non sideboarded games because i havent created a sideboard yet. Many sideboard options have been discussed here and i have been closely considering all of them. I wanted to get a bit more input on what you guys would suggest for sideboard options in my meta in preparation for the tournament in two weeks. The meta in my area is very diverse. I expect to predominantly see fish and other aggro strategies, there will be a few Tez, Oath and stax. i most assuredly will see Ichorid as well.

These are the cards im considering so far.
Krosan Grip
Oxidize
Sower of Temptation
Threads of Disloyalty
Relic of Progenetus
Tormods Crypt
Smother
Pithing Needle
REB

How many should i play of each? What are the pros and cons of each? Are there any possibilities that ive overlooked?
I have discussed these options with my playtesting group and i was hoping to get some input from the memebers of this forum. I have a lot of respect for many of the players who post here and your input would be greatly appreciated.

maybe im just crazy or a scrub but is there a reason that neither of these decks run tolarian academy?
7  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: ELD's Mox 18 Results and Pics on: September 12, 2008, 10:24:56 am
I understand that its situational. I was asking for a few examples of different scenarios and what to gifts for in those instances.
8  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: ELD's Mox 18 Results and Pics on: September 11, 2008, 11:23:41 pm
Hey there! Can anyone help me out by telling me what you would gifts for in MS paint and why? Thanks
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Just starting out (Vintage or Bust) on: August 09, 2008, 09:23:50 pm
I have killed myself twice already with that deck already LOL - I have to learn that life is a comodity and one of my resources to balance, like mana and cards in hand. In the other formats life is a measure of how you are doing. In this format it's a resource. (That's spoken by a newb.. maybe I'm totally off Smile

You definately are on the right track there, especially in the deck you chose. In many ways, life is just another sort of "mana" to be used to win. I have won many games, stabalizing at 1 life, and then pulling it out to win the game. Always remember, you havent lost until your life is at 0...OR you deck has been ground away. Wink

Welcome to the format! I read your blog and i think its awesome that you are getting all your cards with only other cards you own. I've always loved the trading aspect of magic so reading about you trying to trade up is cool. Good luck with that deck. Its super fun, however, SUPER complicated to pilot it to a win, let alone a world championship. Its always good to see vintage attracting new players.
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: RB painter hate on: August 09, 2008, 12:21:35 pm
Hi there guys. This deck looks super fun but I have a question.  I see that you added faerie macabre to the sideboard. Talking specifically to vroman, is 4 copies of that card enough to beat ichorid. Many of the players at the world champs event played 5-10 cards of ichorid hate in their sideboards, and i know playing the aggro role against them would be pretty terrible. Duress/Thoughtsieze are good, but if you dont drop an early painter to blow up Bazaar with your 8 rebs or get faerie in hand i see it being a super rough match up. Tutors also help you race, but they have cabal therapy and unmask. Any insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated.
12  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: GWSx: Dark Confidant fueled Ritual combo on: July 31, 2008, 06:36:59 pm
The  plan is real easy.   You have 4-7 bounce effects between main and sideboard, and Dark confidant, as well as a Rock Solid mana base.  It's pretty easy to get mana beyond their spheres, and then just smash them with bounce+Tendrils.

Well, either im a bad player or im just unlucky as all hell. Its probably the former. Anyway, it always seems like my testing partner gets the sphere out and follows with a waste before i can get a chance to set up. We always test game 1s (i.e. preboard games) because we like to try and learn how to improve our chances on g1 wins.

@Nova

I have been following the thread for a while and i saw earlier that you said you prefer to be matched up against Stax. I have a lot of stax in my meta and have been having some trouble beating them. Can you share some insight on how you go about taking them down?
14  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results] UL Mox Jet, 7/12/08, Southern California on: July 15, 2008, 12:36:43 am
So goblins took it down... really?

Just kidding, congratulations to all of the top 8, with special congratulations to Shun on the win and Chris for representing the team.  It should also be noted that John Harduvel is a deck naming genius, bravo sir, bravo.  I wish I could have made it, as it seems like an interesting and healthy metagame.  A little heavy on the aggro and light on the rituals for my taste, but I'll be there next time to change that.  Southern California owes a deep debt of gratitude to Justin, for not only hosting these tournaments but basically keeping the vintage scene alive down here, keep up the good work man, we all appreciate it.  I would also like to thank everyone that traveled out to support these tournaments, and all the new comers, we need all the support we can get.  See you all at the next one!

It pained me not to see you there. I was so hoping you would come in and combo out the meta into oblivion. Maybe next time, sir.

All in all, it was a healthy meta. Being knocked out early made for a sucky day, but everyone there was pretty cool. Maybe next time i wont be such a scrub, or maybe next time freaking Gio wont be so full of lucksackery!!!!
15  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: U/W Fish- An "Old" Face on the New Block on: July 11, 2008, 01:02:55 am
Thanks for the well wishes Jeff. The only reason i fear chalice at two is because it hits so many things in our deck. It, by no means, ends the game but its rough. It hits mage, standstill, grunt, rod, kataki(if you choose to run it), time walk, daze...thats all i can think of right now. I've been at work for 15 hours now and im a bit tired. Anyway, i'll take your new changes into consideration for sure. I expect there to be a lot of aggro so going with more StP definatley seems good. I'll have to do some serious testing tomorrow on my day off. After i get some much needed sleep.
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: U/W Fish- An "Old" Face on the New Block on: July 10, 2008, 09:04:33 pm
Thanks for the reply Jeff. If you wouldnt mind can i see your new list? I have been trying to fit grunt into my deck as well for added pressure on my opponent, however, you orgninal list seems pretty tight. Also, adding grunt makes you more crippled by chalice at 2. It hits so many things in this deck i seriously fear it.
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: U/W Fish- An "Old" Face on the New Block on: July 10, 2008, 01:05:52 am
So, i have a tourney this weekend and i'll be sure to take note and post a report. Anyway, im running the exact list that Jeff ran at Eudemonia. The only thing i have done is modify the sideboard a bit. This is what im running.

3 Tormod's Crypt
1 Echoing Truth
1 Stifle
4 Energy Flux
1 StP
2 Umezawa's Jitte
3 Spell Snare

Expect there to be a LOT of shops and a LOT fish. Ichorid is something that im not sure will show up, but with 4 strip effects,  3 Stifles (1 from board), 3 Crypt, 3 Echoing Truth my matchup shouldnt be too terrible. Flux is of course for shops and the Jittes and Spell Snares are for the mirror match. The only thing im not covering i think is combo. Spell snares may help, along with stifles...iono. Any suggestions and or comments would be appreciated! I cant wait for saturday!!!

Can anyone share some insight? I have a tourney comming up this week and i can really use some advice. Thanks
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: U/W Fish- An "Old" Face on the New Block on: June 29, 2008, 11:53:18 pm
Hey guys. I dont really post much here but i lurk these halls quite often. I really love what you guys did with the deck list. Webster and Jeff you guys are the shizz. Anyway, i have been toying with the idea of running fish and as i said i like your list. I have been thinking a lot about the sideboard for this deck. I've been considering running a lone swamp and adding jailer to my sideboard. I know the big positives on Leyline, however if it isnt in your opening hand its a complete dead card. Obviously, you would mulligan aggresively into it but drawing a second one seems really terrible. Jailer seems like a good option tho. As far as i can think, ichorid doesnt run any answers to creatures in play. Also, he is a 2/1 body that keeps that game clock running. He turns sideways like a champion and drawing a 2nd or third copy wouldnt be nearly as bad as drawing a second copy of leyline..just a thought. I also like the idea of running arcane labratory/orims chant too. Shutting Bomberman and other combo decks down (Arcane Lab) and the possibility of 4 additional time walks (Orims Chant) seem tasty to me. Any new insight into the sideboard Jeff and Web? Also, can you share more isight into how Arcane Lab and Orims chant might have other utility? Thanks!

Oh and one more thing, how do you deal with chalice?

EDIT:I forgot about contagion, however, replaying a second jailer would be easier than playing a second leyline...iono.
20  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Report: Top 4 split at Untouchables double lotus tourney on: February 11, 2008, 08:00:11 pm
Congrats on your showing.

I really liked your deck list a lot and tried it this past weekend in a tourney for a timewalk.

I finished 2-3 which i feel is mostly due to me not knowing how to play this deck properly. I lost in the mirror, to manaless ichorid and to RB golbins.

Can you give me any insight on how to sideboard against the top decks out there and what to board in for the mirror match. Also, any suggestions on different SB cards to play in my meta. Lots of stax, 3 shop aggro (including myself), 1 Oath, 3 GAT, 1 Goblins, 2 bomberman, 1 UWB fish, 1 UG good stuff, 1 UB good stuff.

10th place with jagged poppet. AWESOME!!! Congrats.

I have a question tho. I have been reading TMWA thread latley and i see that many people run Gathan Raiders in thier builds. I'm wondering if i missed something, because i really dont understand why hes so worth running. I must not be understanding quite the way that he works. If you could enlighten me i would really appreciate it! thanks

Greetings everyone! This is my first post on the drain....so please be gentle...

Let me start by saying congrats on the success you had in the tourney. I have been lurking the trinket magus thread for a while now and have really liked the way deck has developed and im happy to see it do well in a tourney. Ive built my own little adaptation of it based on my meta but i did want to ask you a question.
How much difficulty did you have making sure that you had both stifle and dread in your hand. I've been toying with the idea of useing dread, but it seems that it may be difficult to get you hands on both the naught and the stifle. Also, did you have any problems getting the necessary colors for mindcensor or balance under MoM? Is there a specific order in which you would prefer to play the trinket, MoM, or Mindcensor?
