Those are gonna cost you a fuckton of cash. and even talked to him about it personally.
What'd he say? When I sent him an email he said that the pieces I wanted have already been sold but he has alot more in his ebay store. I've sent cards and stuff out to him before to get signed and he was really cool about it. And as for the money, I would probably be willing to pay up to 900 for any of those pieces, it's worth it to have an original.

However this guy has a bunch of potential, I'm just not sure he's what ti takes to get fish out of the hole.
If cards like Kataki dont have enough to get fish out of the "hole" then nothing does. This guy is sweet, but I doubt he'll see play also because of his 2cc conflicting with other better turn 2 drops (already pointed out by MoxLotus). But he could be good if the game goes long enough to make good use of his expensive abilities

Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Single Card Discussion : Sunforger

The entire premise of a Sunforger deck is that it is possible to play and activate a Sunforger within a relevant amount of time, but why even bother if there are better cards to build around instead?
Sucks when you realize this about your new deck ideas huh?

The deck revolves araound using Gifts to set up a LftL engine. Gifts to set up LftL? seems like you'd be losing tempo. Wouldn't you rather just set up a real win condition like Yawgmoth's Will? I think it's this reason you dont really see many varied Gifts decks, at least not when it comes to kill conditions. Yawgmoth's Will is always going to be the best win condition in Gifts.

you can only play so many restricted cards and Gifts targets, so the second Gifts isn't nearly as good. Early game Gifts tend to be things like Time Walk, Thirst for Knowledge, Merchant Scroll, Brainstorm or something like that, or perhaps mana sources. If anything, the first Gifts makes the second stronger by stocking the 'yard so that my second Gifts can focus on just resolving Will and letting the cards the first Gifts got actually win the game. An early game Gifts for TFK, Merchant Scroll, BS, and Gifts #2 can be an amazing set up for a more powerful Gifts a turn or two later. This is something that FOF can only hope to do out of 5 cards.

Anyways, now that we are past that, what do you guys think of the deck?
Congrats on building a savage deck considering most of the cards have been around forever. I think the overwhelming success of the deck is going to skyrocket it's popularity and now that there is a list available, EVERYONE is going to be playing it. BTW, the Confidants in the SB for the control match...Genius!

I would seriously consider running three Cabal Ritual, using Intuition to fetch three of those is sooo broken, the +3 to threshold that Intuition gives you is amazing and after you resolve Yawg Will they will pay for every black spell you could want. Oh and the unmask to use dead leylines is friggin sweet.
It would seem like since Leyline is a pretty important part of the deck, the threshold side of Cabal Rit might not be so good.

What is the best road to type 1 stardom?
What is the best way to come up with that hot new type 1 deck that will get your name all over TMD for being the one that created this awesome new deck? Is it as simple as strategic metagaming of single cards into already established builds of your favorite Gifts or CS list?  Is it digging up decks from 2000 that did well 5 to 6 years ago that  people  have forgotten about and  will never see coming? Is it searching through  spoilers from Ravnica block looking for that card that will break the format that hopefully no one else has seen yet? Or maybe it’s just having a team of dedicated Type 1 players that all have their minds wrapped tightly enough around the format that once they come up with something, it’s just going to be dynamite.
Or should you try and go the opposite route and dominate an archetype to the point where people will know what you’re playing as soon as you step foot in the venue. Being the top Stax or Control Slaver in the format is an achievable title, but it’s something that needs to come with results I.E. Vroman and Ugo Rivard taking multiple first place finishes at high profile Star City events. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there that do not get the recognition that they deserve and are amazing players as well, but to be at the top of the game you need to be winning some mad jewelry, have one of those “fashionable” Mean deck hoodies, or have an altered Brassman in Andy Probasco’s book, IMO.
As much as I hate to say it, I myself do not put myself in any of these so called categories. I would not consider myself an innovator nor would I call myself a net-decker, not so much an amateur, but not quite a pro either. I try to blur that line between innovation and skill of a single deck but I wanted to know what you  think. Â
Are you more of an Innovator, a Rogue Connoisseur, someone that is going to be climbing to the top with Zombies or Memnarch? Or are you sticking with Gifts Ungiven or Akroma til’ you’re the feature match at the top table, weekend after weekend?

I fail to see how this is going to be better than Threshold already is. The only advantage I can see is the red for Lavamancers and Shamans, but red is a trick Threshold can do to. It would seem to me like you would also need something other than Daze, Force, and Wasteland to interact with your opponent. Chalice, Null Rod, and Pithing Needle all seem to be the disruptive aggro cards of choice (for the maindeck that is). And also, Root Maze is nuts against every deck in the format right now

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Sideboarding] How do you use a sideboard?
|
on: February 24, 2006, 02:45:55 am

It is also relevant that during sideboarding I always shuffle my entire sideboard into my deck and then pull out the appropriate fifteen cards that I don't want every time. This way my opponents don't know how many cards I brought in against them, so that cannot anticipate the hate card density that I will be attacking them with. For instance, when my opponent boards in five cards against me; I assume at least two to three are REBs, maybe one is Darkblast, and the last cards is maybe a Tormod's Crypt in against a Gifts player. I may be wrong, but chances are I'm probably right; because weak players have the 'set sideboard strategy mentality.' Therefore, I can with a fairly high amount of certainly assume what my opponent's plan is.
I completely agree with this strategy and promote that anyone that has never used this style of sideboarding should try it. I like this style of sideboarding because you may find although there are specific cards that you may want to board in for particular matches, some cards in your sideboard might be more efficient in game 2 than some maindeck cards. The element of surprise is much hotter and more powerful than that of predictability and playing what is the 'assumed or agreed best' plan. I'm usually much more upset to see something I wouldn't expect to be sided in played against me than something I know is comming. For instance in a control mirror, you can't wreck somebody with REB. You can win the game by ending a counter war, sure, but if you have the Mana open they know it is possible you will play it. They weigh the risk you've got it and decide whether or not it is worth it. But you can wreck somebody with Stife. I can't tell you how many times I've been fighting a counter war over something and they Fetch for a REB or a Drain Mana and I stifle it to end the war. That is wrecking somebody, or hitting a fetch that they need early or a welder activation.
I will second this with full force. Pulling out random or unorthodox plays from the sideboard can single-handedly win every game passed the first. And not only that, when you wreck someone with something out of totally left field, it makes some good shock and awe value.

I'd have to agree with MoxLotus on this one, it seems like there are way too many cards that you would not want to see in your opening hand in the deck.
It also seems to me that you would have a tough time against other blue based control decks due to the lack of draw. Granted you rely more on your tutors and gifts to get you to where you need to go, but every other mana drain deck out there at least plays some other draw engine other than Brainstorm/Shuffle that would be able to easily outdraw you. It would seem like ForceFieldYou would agree (assuming he, as your teammate, helped with input on the deck) :
" Card advantage is found via resolving blue cards. So most likely, the person who resolves the most blue cards the fastest will usually get to resolve the one black card first."

I would like to add that I have also come to the same conclusion about the mana base, it really only needs two colors. The only reason I think a third color might belong would be to further utilize your Wishes, they seem kinda dulled down if you are only playing two colors and not a splah of either red or green for sideboard cards.

As to the complaint about a slim number of kill conditions and their susceptibility to being disrupted, the entire focus of this deck revolves around resolving a single spell. With Duress, you should be able to know what you need to do to set up your kill, and don't be afraid to wait a turn or two before you go in. Always be sure that your Will/Tinker is going uncontested.Tormod's Crypt is quite a bitch to deal with... but I found myself baiting the Crypt action all the time by casting intuition. Sure you lose your AK's but it lets your Will still be stupid. Bonus points if you can manage to cast your AK in resp to Crypting.
Something I'd like to add to this would be susceptablilty to Jester's Cap in particular ( you know this as well as I do ) Having 2 of your 3 kill conditions removed and having Yawgmoth's Will removed can be quite crippling most of the time. This is especially true since most decks that are going to board in Jester's Cap are going to be running Goblin Welders, and therefore Duress does not always help and it can be alot harder to deal with. I found Pithing Needles were quite good going into that fight.
