1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Help with TPS sideboard. on: May 18, 2009, 02:30:41 pm
Haven't had any problems with the mana at all and never had a problem casting desire. I would like another fetch and an academy but have room with the proxy count form them but that should change soon anyways (I've got a few things coming).  Dont actually ever see 'Mora, GW, or Vault-Key go figure. I didnt actually run the listed sb and the changes were.

-2 Helm
-3 Confidant
-1 Consultation
-1 Chainer's
+2 Echoing
+3 Crypt
+2 Powder Keg

I did rather poorly this weekend. A first round was a bye, second round was elf combo I lost the match 1-2 as he went off the first game and cast a lethal grapeshot, second game a won with a tendrils, third game his combo fizzled but was able to attack with the large number of elf tokens he generated with elvish promenades, Third round was worse and I was unable to find anything but more mana of any flavor with my draw spells both games and lost to Goblin Piledrivers. After round 3 I stopped playing for the day. Bad luck all around.

Yeah my meta does scream "kill me" and I usally do... I agree the repeal's migt not work in my meta, but with the addition of Proxies and me and a couple of the others have been helping some of the others players build better decks. Case in point the kid with the elf combo deck I helped him build it.

So changes to the MD for a couple of Repeal's

-1 Lim-Dul's Vault
-1 Impulse
+2 Repeal's

I'll give it a try while testing this week.

If we go back to no proxies Ill still be running combo albeit not storm based. Amywho this Sunday Ill taking a my TPS build (TPS being my usual choice to play) with me and I wanted to see what you all thought, that and i need a little help with the sideboard my meta can be rather weird.

There is the deck as it stands right now. Ill go into a few of my odder choices.

Mox Diamond: I Currently don't have Mana Crypt so I've been running this in it's place. If I can pick up a Memory Jar this weekend Ill remove this for a proxy of the Crypt instead.

Lim-Dul's Vault, Impulse, Frantic Search: I do not have any Grim Tutors nor do I have Imperial Seal and my proxy Count is full. The Vault in particular is probably one of my weirder replacements for the tutors i don't have although I find that it more less acts like another one of the disadvantage tutors I do run. I do not want more then though so I added Impulse and Frantic Search. The Frantic Search very often ends up just being a means to untap my lands while I m going off and I use it less to dig through my deck.

That more or less covers the strange choices for the main deck of note is the fact that I would use Underground Seas over the Watery Graves but mine seas wen missing with my fetch lands and they do in a pinch while I proxy a pair of fetches. The Sideboard right now is designed to change the deck into a Leyline/Helm Combo deck. I'm not sure I like the idea but I'm not quite sure what to put in my sideboard for the time being. The meta I have is mostly some aggro of some kind or another (and mostly bad at that) although there are several other fairly good players as well who play better decks and in some cases decent aggro decks. The other player with partial Power (I only have a Lotus Sad ) I'm not sure what he will be playing, but I can bet it will be a top end deck. But other wise I need a few suggestions for my sideboard for dealing with fast aggro strategies including Sligh, Elves, and a pretty brutal Sliver deck (Caught me off guard the first time scrolled for a Mystical instead of bounce Sliver Legion hurts...). All in all thank you in advance. Ill check this in the morning and Ill let you know how things go on Monday there's D20's calling my name Sunday nights.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / First shot at GAT on: February 24, 2008, 07:12:37 pm
Hello all. Its been awhile since I played any magic. Not much time and Ive been playing other CCG's. Well in any case one of the local shops is going to be trying Vintage tournaments for awhile and I will have time to play... I think. I decided to I wanted to build a GAT deck and I wanted to get some feedback on the list I wrote up.

I don't know what the meta will be so I haven't put a sideboard together for the deck, some ideas for the board would be welcome. I disliked the idea of a fourth color in the deck and opted to leave out the red although I'm not totally committed to leaving it out and may put it back in. Well like I said Id like some feedback on the list so without further ado heres my list.

Creatures:
2 Psychatog
4 Quirion Dryad

Spells:
4 Gush
2 Ponder
1 Berserk
3 Misdirection
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Echoing Truth
2 Mana drain
3 Brainstorm
2 Duress
2 Thoughtseize
4 Merchant Scroll
1 Yawgmoth's will
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Timewalk

Mana sources
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
3 Tropical Island
4 Underground Sea
2 Island
3 Flooded Strand
3 Polluted Delta

So thats the list so far. What do you think?

EDIT:

Please forgive my lack of content I know better I was pressed for time and hadn't yet goldfished the deck yet. Well having had plenty of time to fish the deck (I do little to nothing at work) at work I have a better feeling for what I do and don't like about it.

After last night I'm less then impressed with Pyschatog's performance my preference runs to the dryad but other then Tarmogoyf (Which has gotten outrageous price wise). I'm not sure what to replace the Tog's in the deck with I was almost thinking of just adding another couple more draw spells in the slot or a combo kill like Empty the Warrens although I don't want to add red to the deck. If I drop the togs I can drop the berserk from the deck as well freeing up three slots in the deck so I may just increase the ponder and brainstorm count up to four each. So possible changes to the main may look like this:

-2 Psychatog
-1 Berserk
+2 Ponder
+1 Brainstorm

I think those changes may help the deck with better consistency. The only other gripe I have had with the deck while playing it (I use workstations solo test mode) has been with the Mana Drains. They at times were a help or more often a hindrance at the 2 count but dropping them to 1 seems harsh I might try and replace them with regular Counterspells although that may depend more on the meta in m y area when I have a better chance to see what it will look like.

As for the sideboard I have yet to work on that because I'm unsure as to what my meta will look like so this is kinda of what I'm gonna look at till I have an idea of what he meta is like.

Sideboard:
4 Leyline of the Void
2 Duress
2 Thoughtseize
2 Echoing Truth
3 Oxidize
2 Trygon Predator

I think that may work for the time being untill I have a better idea of what the meta will look like.  I thinks thats it for the time being I'm gonna go and see if I can get a game on workstation with it to see how it plays out. Any ideas are welcome.
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Mono blue control needs help being rounded out on: April 22, 2006, 05:49:26 pm
I don't post on the board all that often but I am usually lurking somewhere in the background seeing what others are talking about. Well in anycase Ive been tinkering around with a mono-blue control deck recently and have become stuck on it I'm not sure what I should add. So I'm going to post what I have for the list so far.

Draw

4x Ophidian
1x Ancestral Recall
4x Brainstorm

Disruption

4x Force of Will
4x Mana Drain
4x Mana Leak
3x Stifle
2x Tormonds Crypt

Other

1x Time Walk
3x Echoing Truth

Artifact Mana

1x Black Lotus
1x Mox Sapphire
1x Mox Ruby
1x Mox Jet
1x Mox Emerald
1x Mox Pearl
1x Strip Mine
4x Wasteland
4x Polluted Delta
9x Island

I have five slots or so to fill in the deck, and I'm not quite sure what I should run in those slots. I'm in the Seattle area and cant seem to get a good bearing on the meta out here and that isn't helped that I haven't been to a tourney as of yet. So any suggestions that would help with going into the unknown as i would like to have the deck be competative and not be playing Gifts or Slaver.

I first built the deck a few months back as a G/B/U control deck. Over the next few months green completely disappeared and black was slowly being pushed out of the deck for more reactive control and was left with only Necropotence and Demonic Tutor with some Dark Rituals. So I cut the black along with the Exhaustions I was running and Tinker and friends. I added the phids, the Crypts, and few islands to replace the underground seas I had taken out.
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] B/w Fish on: September 09, 2005, 02:51:55 am
Having been intrigued by a black variant of Fish in an earlier thread, I began working on my own version of the variant. It was at first a mono black design that didn't quite fit my tastes and didn't have as many answers as I would have liked to have had, so I added a small white splash. Which so far has done well for me. My testing with the deck is not complete. Although the games I have played with it so far have gone well for the most part. Heres the deck list that I have been using Ill go over my card choices and what match analysis I do have.

Black Sunday
// Utility
        2 Swords to Plowshares
        3 Æther Vial
        3 Umezawa'sJitte
// Disruption
        4 Cabal Therapy
        4 Unmask
        4 Duress
        3 Chains of Mephistopheles
        3 Chalice of the Void
// Critters
        2 Nezumi Shortfang
        3 Nezumi Cutthroat
        3 Nezumi Graverobber
        4 Mesmeric Fiend
        3 Phyrexian Negator
// Mana
        1 Mox Pearl
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Black Lotus
        4 Scrubland
        4 Bloodstained Mire
        7 Swamp
        1 Mana Vault
        1 Sol Ring
//Sideboard
        1 Nevinyrral's Disk
        4 Chainer's Edict
        3 Engineered Plague
        2 Plains
        3 Disenchant
        2 Dust to Dust

The White Splash.
White gave me access to the few answers that I was lacking from the black. Mainly in the form of the Disenchant's and the Dust to Dust's, both have proven themselves valuable to me.

Dust to Dust: If I'm not mistaken because it removes from game and does not destroy it, I can use it to get rid of one of the larger threats to me such as DSC. Just in case I don't get their Tinker with something else.

Swords to Plowshares Much the same reasoning behind the Dust to Dust being included. I like to Hedge my bets.

The Black heart of the deck.

Phyrexian Negator My big beat stick and easy enough to get out with the Aether Vial. Doesn't serve much pourpose opther then being a big warm body.

Mesmeric Fiend Random duress thats has a body. With luck he forces my opponent to be searchin for a way to get their card back, at least I hope so. Also serves as counter bait.

Nezumi Graverobber Graveyard removal can be very crucial to stopping my opponent's plans.

Nezumi Cutthroat Cheap threat with evasion. Might get the axe as he hasn't performed well so far.

Nezumi Shortfang Reuseable Duress albeit a bad one. The rack ability when I can get him to flip is a nice bonus though.

Chains of Mephistopheles Although this can be bad against certain decks I don't worry much because I have my faithful rat graverobbers. With the lack of draw spells in my deck it doesn't cause me much in the way of problems, I cant say the same for other decks so far.

Duress, Unmask, and Cabal Therapy[/b] These round out the most of the core of my black disruption for the deck. With unmask getting rid of most dead cards in my hand and Therapy has helped with pesky spirit tokens when the come along.

Artifacts

Chalice of the Void Unlike the Null Rods I considered using earlier these don't shut down the majority of my artifacts. I have had no problems with it so far but further games will tell in time.

Jitte Theres no reason this shouldn't be in a Fish. It has proven it's self valuableon many occasions.

Aether Vial Letting me slip my threats onto the board without worrying about counters is an absolutely invaluable ability to have.

Sideboard

Engineered Plague/b] FCG has been a horrible match up for me. This just shores up that weakness a bit, and hopefully letting me race to win the game.

Nevinyrral's Disk
Haven't had a chance to use it yet, so I'm still uncertain about it.

Editc's Not quite the spot removal that the STPs are but pretty damn good for getting that lone Welder or other annoyances.

Plains With Dust to Dust's double white in the casting cost I felt that I might need more white mana available for when they go into the deck.

My match ups so far.

Oath
Oath hurts allot in game one because I don't have main decked Disenchants although the STP can help me a bit. This is precisely the deck made me add the Disenchants to the side board I can usually do allot better in the second and third games of a match with these in the deck.

FCG
I have yet to win any of my games against FCG, it just hurts me allot. Mommy make it stop!

I have played against a few other decks but I'm unsure of what they may have been so I will refrain from posting about them. If you would like to help test the deck please send me a PM it would greatly help me. Any comments?
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / [deck] Stasis on: April 20, 2004, 02:53:49 pm
I decided instead of opening a new thread for this deck to just continue with the one I have up now. I have been playing my deck for quite some time now and it has grown and changed to fit my meta slightly better then it had. I have found with my previous build I could fall prey to the aggro decks becuse I still had little to hold them off with so I re-worked it, to where aggro wasnt as bad of a match up. Reasoning for my cards will follow after the deck.

//The Lock
3x Stasis
3x Kismet
3x Forsaken City

//Drawing/Search
1x Gush
1x Ancestral Recall
1x Fact or Fiction
1x Necropotence
1x Demonic Tutor
3x Careful Study
1x Vampiric Tutor
2x Skeletal Scrying

//Disruption
4x Counterspell
4x Force of Will
3x Mana Short
3x Duress

//Utility
1x Feldon's Cane

//Mana
1x Black Lotus
1x Mox Jet
1x Mox Pearl
1x Mox Sapphire
4x Dark Ritual
4x Tundra
4x Underground Sea
3x City of Brass
3x Island
3x Swamp

//Sideboard
2x Engineered plague
3x Moat
3x Humility
3x Tormond's Crypt
2x Cursed Totem
2x Chill

Card Explanations
  Main Deck

Skeletal Scrying- Probably not my best choice of card drawer for this deck as I do want to be able to recur my gravyard into my deck with the Feldon's Cane. But so far in playing o fthe deck it has served me well

City of Brass- I didnt feel that the deck provied enough colored mana with i tbeing three colors so I opted for the use of the City of Brass so I can make use of any color I need when I need it. Forsaken city alos serves this purpose as well in a secondary role.

Mana Short- This card has proven its worth time and time again in the deck as a precursor to the Stasis lock for the next turn, and it also serves double duty as a way to slow my opponet down and to stop a spell or two from being cast.

  Sideboard

Engineered Plauge- Kills Welders, elves, other goblins, many diffrent token creatures, has comein handy many a time.

Moat- I deal with alot of aggro in my area and this serves to slow them down for a time and in some cases bring their attaks to a complete halt till they can find a soloution, in some case my oppent has scooped in the face of the moat with now way to get around it or get rid of it.

Humilty- works great with the Moat by stopping the flyers and it also gets rid of other pesky abilities that I have to deal with from time to time with. I have that it also works great with the Engineered Plauge, by making the larger nasty critters small and easy pray for the plauge.

Tormonds Crypt- Dragon hate, I like to play dragon but this puts a nice crimp in the Dragon Decks plans.

Cursed Totem- Another ability hoser, it has proven to be useful at times but will probably come ou tin favor of more Chills and Plauges, more testing is needed before I decide on what I will do with this card

Chill- Has proven more then usefull enough against the many Red Decks I have used it against. This will forever have a home in the sideboard of this deck.

This deck has held its own aganist the few combo decks I have to worry about in my area as well as having a fairly well rounded match up with other control decks (Which are fewer in number then the Combo decks here, no keeper deck whatsoever). The only matchup I have had problems with, with this deck has been aggro. The update to the deck has given me a slightly better matchup against aggro decks, but not much of one. The speed increase given to me by acsess to the black has proven in vaulably to me, giving me the chance to be set up and ready to go on my third turn, occasionaly the second. I can and do usaly get set up to go on my fourth turn. So there you have it my updated Stasis deck.
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / New Decks Are Hard To Make. on: April 12, 2004, 05:13:03 pm
I understand what you are saying and understand what JP was saying but pay attention to the way this group (social construct wether you like it or not) works and you will see that alot of arrogence from those that are placed in a higher station by this construct. I am not saying nor trying to imply that all of them are. If you tell someone that their deck sucks and they dont see mabye clairfify why you would say such a thing. Im not saying guide them by the hand.

What I am saying is many of their actions are made in their own arrogence and estimations of their abilty.

Quote
Keep telling yourself, "It's only a game."
Is probably the singal stupidest thing I have heard this day. Becuse you know what the truth of the matter it is only game. It is not a way of life and if it is a way of life for you then you need to step back and take a look at your life. But saying that this game is more then game is almos as bad as some other gamers I have know in the past they got so wrapped up in a game they couldnt seperate the game from reality. So yeah I will keep telling my self its a game BECUSE THATS WHAT IT IS.
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / New Decks Are Hard To Make. on: April 12, 2004, 03:20:39 pm
I understanbd all that but often times many of you (Your not really on of the JP) come off as being arrogent and I personaly (I wont speak for others on the board) find that to be one of the rudest things. If your gonna tell me why deck is bad go ahead and do tell, I can and will take criticisms as long as they are useful. The last deck I posted I had taken down becuse after I started to play test it wasnt that good so I had a mod lock it up. More sometimes I see things like I pointed out with Matt in my previous post it doesnt look like he even bothered to go through and read the whole thing just skimmed over it becuse mabye he saw and idea that he didnt like and just said this deck is no good with even taking a close look at it (This is not a personal jab at you Matt). Things like that are the things I only had a suspicion and this may have proved me right. I see this kind of thing in real life where one doesnt think it will work becuse he thinks himself better the the person whom had the idea so he doesnt bother take a full look at the thing just skims it over and then casts it by the wayside. Thats more of my gripe and one of the reasons I think alot of deck ideas or innovations are stifled becuse the higher ups dont wish to take their time to even bothering giving it a good look through and help make it better or to help make it even work for that matter. Well I leave you to think about what I have said and really take a look at what you are doing...................
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / New Decks Are Hard To Make. on: April 12, 2004, 12:41:20 am
Mad Im probably going to come off like an ass and if I say something that offends oh well. I have found in my viewing of this forum and many of the threads where you so-called paragons of vintage rear your head to say something it isnt uselly constructive (Not all of you mind just alot of you) and you almost always come off as being arrogent becuse you mabye feel you better then us, you may be but are we sure its not just the cards?

Matt you use one of my decks in your last post (The first link). You say it has no disruption, I say go back and ACTUALLY take a look at it instead of skimming over it like you probaly did in the first place. I must admit it didnt have enough but it was present in both the main deck as well as the sideboard.

Im useing you as an example of the kinds of things I see go on here. Just becuse you have a full membership or some similar title bellow you avatar doesnt give you a right to be arrogent. I could be arrogent cause I dont lose most of my games but Im not gonna stoop to your level.

Those are my two cents if what I have said gets me in trouble so be it I will deal with the trouble it brings. This was not written at all you who have a full membership or the fancy titles below the avatar, some of you are actually helpfull and not arrogent fools.

Hey mod like people after playing this deck for awhile it sucks real bad. could you please kill this thread in some manner.
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] Da infested thing on: April 09, 2004, 03:30:32 am
I was testing it this evening with a friend of mine playing an aggro deck. I have found that the Necropotence even as broken as it is has no home in the deck from this point as I have no way to replace the life lost to the deck and the missing draw phase is far to much punishment as I need to get the draws, also I prefer to able to discard to my gravyard instead of removing those cards from the game. I have also removed the Death Wish as well this leaves the deck with 60 cards other updates have been made to the deck as well.

Changes to the deck

-1 Necropotence
-1 Death Wish
-3 Counterspell
+3 Last Rites

The Last Rites are not pulling thier weight and are going to be replaced with Hymns. The Hymns are there to only hold place till I have better discard effects. The sideboard has been dismantled and is undergoing reconstruction. Any other ideas are highly welcome, and I do ask for you rhelp in making this deck better (AND YES WHEN i ACUIRE POWER IT WILL BE FINDING ITS WAY HERE) Thankyou.

2x Nantuko Shade
3x Swords to Plowshares
1x Feldon's Cane
3x Circular Logic

I havent tested it quite yet mostly as I havent had the time to do it, but i will begin the testing as soon as a possibley can. Right now the deck isnt optimnal as I lack the power cards and other cards considered staples (Im out of work and going to college). My meta is mostly aggro, lacks any control whatsoever, and the occasional Combo (I mostly play that). Yes I know the deck is over sixty cards.

How the deck works:

The runs an old (Not the most stable combo I know) of Neferious Lich, Zombie Infestation, Cofessor. With the way Neferious Lich works and the discard affects from the Infestion linked with the confessor it allows me to replace the cards discarded to the Infestions so I may contiune to create more zombie tokens. Recyle the gravyard with a Feldon's Cane to repete the process. This also acts as a draw engine to get cards to recur the graveyard into the deck.

The basis behind the deck is to create a large number of tokens on the oppentes turn and the rush on your own turn.

Card Choices:
Most of my card choice are pretty obvious as to why I chose them.

Diabloic Vison: Search cards till I get more Lim-Dul's Vault.

Feldon's Cane: To recur my graveyard to create even more zombies.

Wonder: To make Zombies flying to get around pesky cardslike moat or other things of the like.

Tainted Field: I dont Currently have the right dual Lands (or nay for that matter what a pitty oh well) But It does provide what little white I need for the deck.

[Edit] Death Wish: Gets me any one card I need granted thats alot of life

Im looking for new card Ideas to protect the Neferious Lich while it is in play or to make it more useful.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] Mono-black dragon on: March 09, 2004, 08:40:37 pm
Well this is the Dragon Deck I have been playing in my area it wins most of its matches. My meta has for the most part is pretty much aggro with a bit of other combo here and there is control but Im the only one who even plays something of the like (My stasis deck). But recently I have had some problem dealing with some pexky enhcantments and larger creatures Most things are nono-black currently this is going to change soom enough I know one guy is working on building a Sui-black deck. Im looking to splash a bbit of white or green for some enchnatment removal.

like I said earlier I face little problem with aggro, as I can go off before they can kill me or I can disrupt them till I get what I need. But recently it has been some pesky enchnatments or artifcats that can get past my disruption.

Notes on the deck:

The deck is unpowered and it doesnt cause me any problems without power in the deck.

That is all for the notes about the deck.

Any ideas or comments are welcome.

3 Feldons Cane
1 Black Vise
3 Howling Mine

Mana Sources
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
4 City of Brass
4 Tundra
4 Adakar Wastes
6 Islands
2 Plains

sideboard
4 Chill
4 Disenchant
4 Tormonds Crypt
3 Defense Grid

I removed the Mages and the Crawlspaces for cursed Totem and Ischron Scepter and added my sideboard. the sideboard seems just a bit clunky any ideas on it would be of great help.

I havent considered going creatureless. Any ideas do it without the creatures?
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / [deck] Stasis on: March 02, 2004, 12:22:55 pm
You have just described some of the reason that I include the Meddling Mage, such cards as Mindslaver, Disenchant, Tranquility, Naturilze ect. The other reason I use the Meddling Mage is becuse I can chump block creatures and keep them out of the way till I have everything in hand and my opponet where I want him. My personal preferance to playing stasis is more defensive becuse of my area, I hae alot of aggro. My build and my playing style for the deck work and it works well. If I take it tourny the mages go to the board for other things probably more blue search.

As for Crawlspace (My fault it was supposed to be one word) Ill edit my deck list to fix the problem.

Crawlspace 3

artifact (Urzas Legacy)

No more then two creatures may attack you each combat.

Exact wording. I run alot into small creature and flying aggro my other two choices dont help much with flying creatures

We have but we havent chossen to use it in any of the builds we have posted.

@Colder: How about Serra Angel or something similar that will give something offensive to throw at them. Theres always Howling Mine and Feldons Cane that you could toss in. Thats about all I can offer for now.

I think I have settled on a build that I like

Creatures
3 Meddling Mage

Lock pieces
3 Stasis
3 Kismet
4 Forsaken City

Drawing/Disruption
4 Counterspell
4 Force of Will
1 Gush
1 Ancestral recall
3 Mana Short
2 Wrath of God
2 Crawlspace
3 Nevinyyral's Disk

Kills
3 Feldons Cane
1 Black Vise
3 Howling Mine

Mana Sources
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
4 City of Brass
4 Tundra
4 Adakar Wastes
6 Islands
2 Plains

Well thats the build thats done the best for me and I may do a bit of work to it in the future.

[Edit] Fixed the crawlspace spelling error.

Jönsson I like your approach I think I may try something similar to it and see what I can come up with. Unmask seems like a nice choice to go with ill give it a try.
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck Discussion] Dragon on: February 23, 2004, 01:17:23 am
Heres the build I have been tweaking around with. Im running a few proxies here and there but will be acquireing almost all of the deck I dont have yet next month minus moxen and mabye the duels. Its a B/U build that I havent had much to test it against (I have a scrub filled enviroment their not into comptition so...). So here she be.

The Bloated Corpse

Critters
3x Worldgorger Dragon
2x Ambassador Laquatus

Combo goodness
4x Animate Dead
4x Necromancy
4x Buried Alive

Disruption
4x Counterspell
4x Rites of Refusal
4x Mana Leak

Search and Destroy Squad
3x Compulsion
1x Demonic Tutor
1x Lim Dul's Vault
1x Nevinyrral's Disk
3x Sickening dreams

Mana Sources
4x Dark Ritual
1x Sol Ring
1x Mana Vault (or a mana crypt depends if I can find one)
1x Mox Jet (Dont have a line on one)
1x Mox Sapphire (See above)
4x Underground Sea
5x Island
7x Swamp

Sideboard
2x Thorn Elmental
2x Chill
3x Tormonds Crypt
4x Null Rod
4x Denfense Grid

I didnt run Bazzars becuse I feel that the land drop they take up is to percious for the deck to loose so I opted for Compulsion instead.

Also I disliked Last Rites as a discard outlet so I opted for the use of Sickening Dreams instead. One I felt it cost tomuch to play and have run into problems where I need to deal with creatures on the board or Im killing my opponet with a Thorny I sided in for the last few points of damage so it serves a two main pourpuses a way to pitch drawn combo pieces and creature kill.

I choose to run the a Rites of Refusal as another Discard outlet and as an alternate to Last Rites as well. for the same casting cost of a Mana Leak and it pitchs a dead card or a sombo piece or two make it worthwhile for me.

The Disk I should run more but cant find a spot for another Disk or two and dont know what to cut for it. Mabye Sickening Dreams if I acquire more Disks.

Thron Elementals over Verdent Forces. This was what I have on hand it has yet to disappoint me I havent run Verdents in the build yet that may change though.

As for the Chills I dont like to play against red and felt that it was Nesscery(SP?) in my sideboard.

Also as for Dragon being hated out well. I hopefully have provided a few ideas with my decks build for answers to the being hated out problem if not well just yell at me or what have you peace.

-4 Root Maze
-4 Yavamiya Coast
-2 Sylvan Libary

22  Eternal Formats / Creative / [deck] Stasis on: February 10, 2004, 12:35:20 pm
@ Feanor: The reason I dont run those cards is as follows.

Rishadan Port: I may try it and see how it works out if it works Ill try and make room for it
Tangle Wire: I didnt play through that block so I didnt quite know it was out there will give it a try and see how it preforms.
Mind over Matter: To exspensive I inteand on having my lock in place by the time I would be able to cast this, so no it doesnt get a home in the deck
Undiscovered Paradise: It works during my untap phase making it useless and City of Brass preforms well enough and it doesn take away from a land drop when I need it.
Morphling: I just dont like Morphling that and he would not be cost effecient enough to run in the deck, where as a Serras Angel or similar would be.
Despotic Scepter: I prefer a stratgy that keeps my Stasis in play
Argivian Find: I barely played Weatherlight thi smay find a home in a sideboard
Propaganda: I completely forgot about this card it may find a home with the deck.

@ mtgmooner: Yes the Reset has been used in the past I just currently dont have any. I find that at time four is one card to many and that three uselly gets the job done quick enough for my taste. The U/G build Im working on runs four of the major pieces

@ colder: Interesting build I like it. Not quite my style though but I still lik eit.
23  Eternal Formats / Creative / [deck] Stasis on: February 08, 2004, 08:09:00 pm
Ive tried the U/G approach in the past and it hasn't given me many reasons to run it over a U/W build. Yes the U/G build id faster then the U/W, the only real problem I have with the green build is that the root maze taps "all" making land recusion useless and then it gives me three choices for the lock 1) the clunky instill energy method, 2) Chronoatog mehtod, or 3) the Forsaken City method. Options 2&3 are good options to use as I really dont have to worry about paying for the lock in both methods. I will say this both U/G and U/W have their merits U/G is faster and IMHO U/W although a little slower I feel it proveds a better lock that leave you (The guy piloting the deck) a little free reign without your own lands being tapped as they come into play. I will try a U/G build. Ok heres goes the build.

//Mana Sources
4x Tropical Island
4x City of Brass
8x Island
4x Yavamiya Coast
1x Mox Sapphire
1x Mox Emerald

//Lock
4x Root Maze
4x Stasis
3x Forsaken City
3x Chornoatog
1x Black Vise
3x Feldon's Cane

//Counter
3x Counterspell
4x Force of Will
4x Thwart
3x Mana Leak

//Draw
2x sylvan libray
3x Brainstorm
1x Ancestral Recall
1x Gush

Ok how does this look then?
24  Eternal Formats / Creative / [deck] Stasis on: February 07, 2004, 09:38:50 pm
Ok Im trying to tweak my stasis deck a bit. I have already removed the green from thedeck as it was taking up two slots which I decided to use for additonl kill conditions (Black Vise and a Leviathan). I run it with Forsaken city to pay for the Stasis and the deck is a U/W build.

Currently I am trying to fit in Mana Leaks as I wish to run a bit more counter then what I do use. Without Further waiting her it is my stasis deck.....

Winters Heart

//Mana Base
4x Tundra
4x City of Brass
4x Adarkar Wastes
6x Island
2x plains
1x Mox Pearl
1x Mox Sapphire

//The Lock
3x Kismet
3x Stasis
4x Forsaken City

//Kill Cards
3x Feldon's Cane
1x Black Vise
1x Leviathan

//Utility
1x Ancestreal Recall
1x Gush
4x Careful Study
3x Mana Short
1x Frantic Search
2x Crawl Space
2x Wrath of God
3x Meddling Mage

//Counter
4x Force of Will
4x Counterspell

I will expliane why included certain cards in the deck, and yes I do realize that certain cards are subpar and I am working on replacing them at this time.

Crawl Space: I included this becuse currently I lack Moats to take the place of said card. These may or may not be replaced in the future as they do the job that moat would do.

Leviathan: I felt like having fun with the deck so I included it for the time being, and it also fills my graveyard with islands for when I use Feldon's Cane.

Careful Study: Card drawing and allows me to get rid of cards I have no need for after the lock is created (Mana Short and the like).

Meddling Mage: Well um yeah um uhhhhhh. Useful will probly be moved to the sideboard, but then again they do keep Disenchants and the like out of the way.

Wrath of God: I run very few creatures and the loss of two or three creatures is not a big deal for me as they can be recycled backinto the deck anyways.

Kismet: I chosse Kismet over Root Maze becuse I do not wish to run three colors and Root Maze affect me as well as my opponet and Root Maze doesnt bring creatures into play tapped which Kismet does.

Mana Short: Serves the pourpus of tapping out my oppent on their turn right before I cast th elast few piaces of my lock.

Oh and like I said in the opening Im trying to find away to add more counters I am in fact looking at adding Mana Leak as a possible addition other ideas for counters are welcome.Any Ideas, questions, and the like are welcome. The only thing I ask is please do not be rude, if you are rude I will ignore you. Well go ahead and pick over my pick over my deck. Thanks!
25  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Tournaments - How To Do them, How Not to Do Them on: February 03, 2004, 02:07:03 am
Im pretty much in the same boat as brendan. Finding a T1 tourny in western Washington is hard and finding one that has one of the P9 up for grabs is even harder. The shop I go to and the only one in a respectable distance runs a monthly tourny and the Type 'is to be annouced' each month. This month its a T1.5 sponsered by my gaming club (In fact I have to miss a gaming session) we cant put up a pieace of the P9 cause we cant afford it the shop doesnt have one and theres like non in the area. So we put up an unopened pack of Legends.

Personally I dont think you have to put a P9 card to get people to come just something that would get them to come like old packs of the first few expansions or Alpha/Beta , Unlimted packs. Thats my two cents.
26  Eternal Formats / Creative / Stasis/Crucible Combo on: January 30, 2004, 08:37:40 pm
Without anything to create the lock say Kismet its not gonna be very good. Annoying yes workable no. So combine it with a Kismet and you have something that would work (It wont work with a Root Maze).

Well I have been running Stasis for awhile (Its about all I play anymore) If your gonna run a Root Maze might as well run it with a Chronatog/Stasis Combo. I say use the Kismet for decks without out the tog (Or with) That way it doesnt bring your own lands into play tapped and keeps opponets creatures less of a threat. Just my two cents take it for what its worth
29  Eternal Formats / Creative / Ideas for my deck? on: January 29, 2004, 05:27:54 pm
Yeah klown has a point abot the scepter. Although I will investigate the use of Reset in place of the Time Walk or the Ancestral Recall for the time being. Thanks for the idea though.

Overview

Its a Stasis deck and runs failry quickly and is in fact capable of getting the lock off in the second turn with the proper hand. Otherwise its just trudge along and deal with what ever comes up till it can get its lock in place. It runs off Forsaken City to keep the Stasis paid for and the lock in place.

The Land: For the most part its pretty simple it runs all my main deck colors and it can provide off color mana for some of my sideboard stuff.

Forsaken City: Provides mana for off color spells and provides a renewable source to pay for the Stasis each turn.

Frantic Searc/Obsessive Search/Gush/Ancestral Recall: Card Drawing to find the pieces of lock faster.

Mana Short: Tapping oppents lands is usefull with stasis and it can even be used as a psuedo counterspell.

Force of Will: Alternate casting cost counterspell.

City of Solitude: It may shut down my own countering capablities but it shuts down my opponets as well.

Wrath of God: Pesky aggro decks.

Crawlspace: For dealing with goblin decks or other small fast creature decks.

Meddling Mage: Just useful gets ride of combo pieces and other dangerous spells.

Root Maze: Still trying to decide if I should go with Kismet over the maze I like both. Both have their draw backs Root Maze effects both my opponet and me and does not tap creatures when they come into play and Kismet is the price slowing my lock by a turn.  The pros of the Kismet are it effects only im opponet not me and gets the creatures as well. What does everybody else think I should run (This is hard decsion becuse I would like to run both of them)?

Sideboard stuff

Tivadars Crusade: Pesky Goblin Decks.

Breathstealer's Crypt/Soul Barrier: For aggro decks especially. the Barrier for fast numerous creature decks (aka goblins or other weenies) and the crypt for creature heavy decks.

Wrath of Merit Lage: Red decks makes it hard for red decks to function.

Lightning Angel: Non tapping Beat Stick may run it in the main deck with further testing.

Like I said before this deck is capableof creating its lock down by turn 2 with the proper hand, heres how.

Opening Hand
Tropical Island/City of Brass
Forsaken City
Mox Pearl
Mox Sapphire
Root Maze
Stasis
City of Solitude

Turn 1 (Paly First)
Tropicla Island/City of Brass
Both Moxs
City of Solitude (Just help make sure the lock can get through next turn)

Turn 2
Matters not what was drew
Forsaken City
Stasis
Root Maze
After that just start to pitch cards to the Forsaken City to keep the lock in place. If a Kismet is used in place of the Root Maze Lock is postponed till turn three but is a more user friendly lock then with the Root Maze.
