1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / B/R List on: August 31, 2004, 11:16:48 pm
Sweet merciful crap.  They actually listened to us.

And, thankfully, they didn't restrict any Workshop silliness either.

DCI = OK by me.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Help] 5d Article in progress on: May 23, 2004, 10:53:26 pm
Relentless Rats deserves a mention.

Some people might also wonder why Cosmic Larva and Veldalken Shackles aren't on, even though niether of them will see much play.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Battle of the Sets IV - Info on: May 21, 2004, 11:27:38 pm
Ready willing and able to play.  Don't really care which deck(s), I can probably play quite a few rounds on account of school being out.  I can also play almost any time of day.  Just PM me with the details.

Edit- My AIM name is the same as my TMD name.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Discussion] Black Lotus or Mox Sapphire in U/R Fish? on: May 21, 2004, 11:14:55 pm
I don't see why Fish shouldn't run Lotus.  I don't see why any deck wouldn't run Lotus.  I know that fish tries to play a long, grinding game where it wears you down, but Lotus is too good not to play.  Think about going 1st turn Factory, Lotus, Null Rod, Standstill.

It is important to remember that Fish is also a Tempo deck, and what's a better Tempo card than Lotus?
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Construction] Ravager (Combo-Aggro Version) on: May 13, 2004, 08:09:00 am
Maybe Mana Leak? Other than that, if you say you can't use Force, I don't know what to suggest in the realm of countermagic.

I definitely think you should play Twister and Wheel, as well as Tinker, Jar, and something huge to Tinker for.
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Where have all the masks gone? on: May 12, 2004, 12:14:09 am
@ AngryPheldagrif: Perhaps I shouldn't have said unviable, just stuck with "at a low point", or as J.P. stated, not optimal.  However, it is more than likely that you'll have to paddle upstream into a shit-ton of hate.

@ Kowal:  No, I meant splash damage.  I was referring to a recent Flores article.
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Where have all the masks gone? on: May 11, 2004, 04:56:41 pm
Simply put, they are at a low in the meta because of "splash damage".  Splash damage is when one archetype is made invalid or harmed because of another part of the metagame.  With the influx of Mirrodin and Darksteel in the last 9 months, there is too much hate for it to be viable.

Also, it relies on a two card combo that is very disruptable that does not win the game until two turns after it is cast.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Old School Goblins on: May 10, 2004, 11:45:01 pm
My first "good" deck was something along the lines of

16 Islands
1 Tolarian Academy

4 Counterspell
4 Spell Blast
4 Power Sink
4 Remove Soul, later Exclude

4 Millstone
1 Jester's Cap
4 Reconstruction
4 Reef Pirates

4 Merseine (look it up, its OK)
4 Wall of Vapor
2 Denying Winds
1 Polar Kracken
1 Morphling

And a bunch of other random crap, ranging from Rayne, Academy Cancellor to Thran Golem.  Yeah, I bought that precon, so?

Cards I had never heard of:  Mana Leak, Force of Will, any card draw, and the random Morphling is there because I cracked one in a starter of Saga, along with the Academy.

3 Intuitons but no Sol Ring or Mana Crypt?
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] WelderMUD - Can it be viable again? on: April 27, 2004, 01:27:00 pm

is going to R/U (with Glimmervoid, Shivan Reef, and Volc Islands) worth it for just 4x Thirst?

Yes.  Especially when you add draw 7s and Ancestral and Slaver.

Slaver>Stax>Mud.
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] WelderMUD - Can it be viable again? on: April 27, 2004, 09:45:06 am
Yes, but you're running 4 Workshops which makes Trike a reasonably costed 4/4 with no abilities.

Razormane Masticore and FTK would be my suggestions.
12  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Report] Team Dubya takes home a Lotus at TMDO 4/24/4 on: April 25, 2004, 10:15:09 pm
Congatz.  Have you ever tried Skullclamp in your deck?  I've been playing it recently and like it a lot.

I played WW today and absolutely rolled it.  I didn't even bother sideboarding.  Sharpshooter+Incinerator>WW.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap on: April 23, 2004, 09:21:42 am
How do you plan to deal with artifacts?  And only 12 creatures with no draw engine sounds like a bad idea to me, especially when a third of them get screwed to the wall by your own deeds.  You should search for Red Rock in the archived forums.  waSP made it a little while back and I think its what this deck wants to be.
14  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Fifth Dawn cards- scans linked on: April 22, 2004, 12:34:17 pm
I fail to see how Blinkmoth Infusion is broken.  You untapped all your artifacts.  So?  If you have enough artifacts/mana to play this thing, haven't you already won?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the art for Possessed Portal look straight out of Legends?  And Etched Oracle bears a striking resemblance to Jar-Jar Binks.  Hmmm...
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / When is R&D going to get hit by the bus again? on: April 22, 2004, 11:50:39 am

I am seriously having a lack of saliva in my mouth when I look at spoilers for new sets, and as a whole I wonder if R&D will ever bring us banned or restricted cards again.

Breath Weapon:  I've had really good experience with Incinerator.  He kills anything Fish throws at you sans Firewalker, RG Beatz creatures, anything in the mirror, not to mention Sui's otherwise unstoppable guys.   Plus, there are sometimes when the cycling will speed up your combo by a turn.

Godzilla:  Did/have you and Vegeta ever try Skullclamp?

Kind of on the same topic as Rancor, I was joking with my friends about how much I wanted to run Berserk a Piledriver.
17  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Slivers, made for casual on: April 15, 2004, 11:28:44 pm
-1 Sliver Queen
+1 Squee, Goblin Nabob

I'd try and find room for a Root Sliver too.  Beating Blue is some good, I hear.
18  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Multiplayer Card Picks on: April 15, 2004, 12:17:28 pm
For multiplayer, nothin' beats the old Mirari's Wake/Extraplanar Lens-Seedborn Muse-Mobilization/Nemata, Grove Guardian-Coat of Arms combo.
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Article: Stealing Turns and Perms with Slavery in Type One on: April 13, 2004, 12:17:45 pm
Did you guys ever test Time Spiral?  I've goldfished with it a few times and its at least worthy of some testing.

I think any roles Duplicant would play are probably filled by Memnarch.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Basic Questions on: April 08, 2004, 03:52:21 pm
1.  Madness: Yes, with either normal counters or Stifle and probably with Bind.  I'm not entirely sure about it, but I'm almost positive Bind will work here.  Also, because of stack rules, if it is Stifled, it gets removed from the game.
Flashback:  Yes but only by regular counters.
Cycling: Yes but only with Stifle or Bind.  Also note that when you use Stifle Decree of Justice or any other similar card, you must choose whether to counter the draw or the make tokens part.

2.  No.  A spell has to have a legal target(s) in order to be played.

3.  Yes.  That is what makes Tangle Wire-Smokestack good.

4.  Yes, those abilities use the stack and therefore you may respond to them.

5.  No.  Once a Wasteland has been activated, all you can do to stop that land from being destroyed is Stifle or Bind the Wasteland or bounce your land.  Think of this one in war terms:  A guy throws a grenade at you, then you shoot him.  The grenade will still explode in you're face unless you do something to stop it.

Also, in the future, stuff like this should go in the rulings forum.
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Mana Base for Budget FCG - with Strips or without? on: April 01, 2004, 04:48:33 pm
I love Chrome Mox in this deck.  I'd try 4 if they were unrestricted.  If you don't have power, its really the only way to get a non-land permanant source of red mana.  I ported it into 1.5 and dropped the wastes, and this is the list for that:

Quote
9 Mountain
4 Taiga
4 Wooded Foothills
3 Ancient Tomb
3 Elvish Spirit Guide
1 Bloodstained Mire

I'm not sure about Mountain #9, it may be superfluous, and could probably be safely cut for another Goblin.  The rest of the main is the same as in Vegeta's Primer except it has +1 Matron.  Incorporating the restricted sources into this base, I'd try this:

Quote
7/8 Mountain
4 Taiga
4 Wooded Foothills
2 Ancient Tomb
2 Elvish Spirit Guide
1 Bloodstained Mire/Karplusan Forest
1 Mana Crypt
1 Chrome Mox
1 Lotus Petal
0/1 Sol Ring

With the Ancient Tombs, I'm not sure whether or not you need the Sol Ring.  But I'm not sure if the added speed(which is most definitely noticable) is better than the inclusion of the Strips.
22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Banhammer? on: April 01, 2004, 01:00:14 pm
Has there been any thought of just banning people?  I'm not talking about new members with like 3-7 posts but people who have made 50 or so posts, all of which contain complete shit.
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Trying to find a deck to fall in love with on: March 30, 2004, 09:59:03 am
If you're looking for fun, the Kobolds-Skullclamp-Auriok Steelshaper combo is the funniest deck I've seen in months.
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Whahhh? on: March 29, 2004, 04:34:58 pm
Just out of curiosity, I checked ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3184062885&category=19115

I'm shocked.  I wasn't even aware they were $20 yet.  Now its time to start hoarding. Twisted Evil
25  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / A Duress question on: March 25, 2004, 12:19:16 am
That's what we thought, but there was some doubt because it specified the card type you had to grab, but then there was the whole Vampiric vs. Mystical Tutor thing.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / A Duress question on: March 24, 2004, 09:56:11 pm
Do you have to make your opponant discard to Duress if there is a legal target?
27  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Bad Block Constructed (BBC) on: March 24, 2004, 02:21:09 pm
derf derf derf
Gay fish maindeck:
-4 Narwhal
+4 Ghost Ship

Board:
-3 Ghost Ship
+3 Narwhal/Giant Oyster
28  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Bad Block Constructed (BBC) on: March 22, 2004, 04:21:33 pm
After a little bit more testing, I think this is what I'll run:

18 Island
4 Fellwar Stone

Creatures
4 Narwhal
4 River Merfolk
4 Sea Sprite
4 Vodalian Mage
3 Giant Albatross
2 Reveka, Wizard Savant
2 Homarid Spawning Bed

Control/Utility
4 Memory Lapse
4 Aeolipile
4 Chonch Horn
3 Maze of Ith

Sb:
4 Homarid Shaman
4 Seasinger
3 Ghost Ship
3 Vodalian War Machine
1 Amnesia

Originally I was thinking I'd go with the V.Knights because they would never be dead with the War Machine.  Then I realized that War Machine kinda sucks.  It'll stay in the board as a 3-of for fast ground-based aggro(Red).  I think the rest of the board is pretty self explanitory, Ghost ship is the only thing that survives Abbey Gargoyles, plus its damn near impossible to kill.  Never in my 8+ years playing Magic did I ever think I'd have to board for Abbey Gargoyles, but here we are.  Seasinger is for the mirror and the one Amnesia is there for three reasons: to punish any slow deck, I needed one more card for the board, and it seems like a card that would be really fun when it resolves, like Decree of Savagery.

And Memory Lapse is t3h roxxxorzz. One.

As for a tourney, I'd love to play this thing.  Not sure when anyone else would be able to, just PM me when you want to get it started.  I'm pretty busy with work and school right now, but I will fit this one in somehow.
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Bad Block Constructed (BBC) on: March 20, 2004, 01:31:07 am
@ MoreFling- I originally tried to put Merchant Scroll in the deck, but there were no blue instants worth fetching.

@ Alfred- Yeah, I think you're right.  For some reason or another, I thoguht that Narwhal only cost UU1 instead of UU2.  I'll post an updated list as soon as I test it against the other decks.

On another note, I think we should consider banning Maze of Ith.  I think that its too dominant and will probably cause stalemates.  I'm not saying it needs to be banned, just that we should just put it on the watch list.
30  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Bad Block Constructed (BBC) on: March 18, 2004, 07:20:24 pm
I like playing it in Type 1, why not BBC?

Gay Fish
Mana
16 Island
4 Fellwar Stone

Creatures
4 Narwhal
4 River Merfolk
4 Sea Sprite
3 Vodalian Knights
3 Giant Albatross
2 Reveka, Wizard Savant
2 Vodalian War Machine

Control/Utility
4 Memory Lapse
4 Aeolipile
4 Chonch Horn
3 Maze of Ith
3 Sunken City

Sb:
3 Seasinger
3 Tangle Kelp
3 Riptide
3 Mana Vortex
3 Homarid Shaman

My sideboard is liable to change, I didn't put much thought into it.  I'd like to find a way to get Vodalian Mage and maybe a Homarid Spawning Bed into the main, as well as the 4th Maze, but I'm not sure what to cut.  *Sigh*
