Awesome podcast!, really enjoyed it Very Happy
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Need help improving this Storm deck. on: January 09, 2013, 10:49:54 am
Its more like a "what can i put in while i find the cards?" kind of help, i know, blasphemy!

Its not that i cant spend the money, its just that i cant find them. I tried locally and nothing, then online just to have them stolen at customs (i bought a couple of T2 boxes + LED + SaT + a couple of duals and all commons i needed, and all got "lost"... of course, i havent got a cent back for this), and the second time not shipped and still charged (and im still disputing the right to get my money back from this time)... i have lost over 500$ trying to get cards and im kinda sick of it, im trying to just play the deck with what i have for now and asking if there are any changes that can be done while searching for the rest, instead of leaving the deck at a side and not playing at all for who knows how long until i find everything.

If its better, then just assume i have all cards exept for the x3 P9, and what to put on their places.

That, and any kind of changes to the SB for a meta with no shops, since a great deal of the SB in those list are against shops (like x4 Ancient Tomb) and just have a more broader SB for an unexpected meta.
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Need help improving this Storm deck. on: January 09, 2013, 12:57:17 am
I have always loved playing storm, so i got really excited when i saw Stephen's Burning Wish list... the problem is that i lack some of the cards needed for this deck... i need some help reemplacing them.

Mmm, i really want to stick with this deck though... i know i might put together other decks that might be better in general tha this one (at least on its current form), but im having so much fun playing it, even if incomplete, that i dont want to change it... i mean, fun is great part of this isnt it?.

My current meta is also not that bad, its mostly legacy decks with a Vintage restricted/banned list, some pet decks, and very little power around in general, "T1" here is mostly about fun with stuff we cant normally use, since its an area/country largely dominated by T2... and just recently stuff like Legacy is being played (and not that much still)

Anyways, my list right now:

x1 Tolarian Academy
x1 Tropical Island
x3 Underground Sea
x4 Polluted Delta
x4 Forbidden Orchard

x2 Griselbrand

x4 Oath of Druids
x4 Burning Wish
x1 Wheel of Fortune
x1 Empty the Warrens

x1 Ancestral Recall
x1 Brainstorm
x1 Ponder
x1 Time Walk
x2 Hurkyl's Recall
x1 Windfall
x1 Tinker
x1 Mind's Desire

x1 Imperial Seal
x1 Vampiric Tutor
x4 Dark Ritual
x4 Duress
x1 Demonic Tutor
x1 Necropotence
x1 Tendrils of Agony
x1 Yawgmoth's Bargain

x1 Mox Opal
x1 Black Lotus
x1 Mox Sapphire
x1 Mox Jet
x1 Mox Ruby
x1 Chrome Mox
x1 Mana Crypt
x1 Lotus Petal
x1 Engineered Explosives
x1 Sol Ring
x1 Mana Vault
x1 Memory Jar

SB:

x2 Shattering Spree
x2 Pyroclasm
x1 Empty the Warrens
x1 Laboratory Maniac
x1 Yawgmoth's Will
x2 Engineered Plage
x1 Massacre
x1 Tendrils of Agony
x4 Defense Grid

------

Now, as far as some of the cards i dont have, i can get them eventually (like the x4 City of Brass, x2-4 Gemstone Mine, x1 Chrome Mox, x1 Mox Opal for the main)... its just that i dont have them with me right now.

I guess as far as lands go, i can go with this changes when i get them:

-4 Polluted Delta
-3 Underground Sea
-1 Tropical Island

+4 City of Brass
+4 Gemstone Mine

But i dont know what i should take out for both the Moxes, maybe:

-1 Engineered Explosives
-1 Imperial Seal

+1 Chrome Mox
+1 Mox Opal

Any thoughs on this changes?, or will you guys for others? Most people tell me to remove 1 Hurkyl's and keep the Imperial Seal, or remove x2 Gemstone Mines instead (for the 2 moxes)... but this makes me feel like im running too little mana (specially since i lack 2 old moxes)

-----

For others, its really difficult since i havent see them around, like, at all, this includes x1 Show and Tell, and the x1 Lion's Eye Diamond. And of course, the 3 pieces of power i lack (Mox Emerald, Mox Pearl, Timetwister), so this are cards i cant see myself getting anywhere near the future, unless i get extremelly lucky and happen to come across them in a bidder or something like that (again, unlikely... even if i travel to another cities)

I also lack a few less expensive cards, but since there is mostly T2 stuff around, they are kinda hard to find at this point (Demonic Consultation, Diminishing Returns, Balance) because people that have them, dont carry them around, and since i get to go to tournaments in other cities very infrequently, i cant seem to fix a trade/buy for those (not many people are willing to waste time searching for a couple of 1-3$ cards for a guy from another city... me)

-----

Now, as far as new additions, main of SB, i just want to point out that there is no such thing as Workshops around here, affinity/ravager like decks mostly, Combo Elves!, Mystic Remora, Oath of Druids, Fish decks of many types, adaptations of Legacy decks to T1, Dredge (without Bazaar), control mixes (with Standstill, or Arcane Lab), many Aggro decks with goblins, delver, etc, storm decks based around Ad Nauseum mostly.

Just a few notes here, the Mystic Remora deck is almost fully powered, and there is 1 dredge deck complete with Bazaars that i know of. This are the only notable decks i have caught though... there might be others out there, but its really hard to pinpoint.

The meta is very diverse, as in... expect anything, so im looking for more general stuff to deal with this... my SB right now kinda reflects that (with Massacre, Engineered Plague, Shattering Spree and Defense Grid) since they kinda appeal to many variations of decks around here.

-----

Anyways, im open to changes and recomendations for both main and SB changes, and any recomendation you guys might have.

Thank you Smile

5  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / A quick question about Forbidden Orchard on: July 05, 2010, 02:20:57 pm
If my opponent has Ivory Mask in play (or any other card that gives him shroud, like True Believer) what happens if i tap the Forbidden Orchard?, do my opponent get the token or they dont?

Thanks.
6  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Leyline of Anticipation on: July 01, 2010, 07:42:00 am
I.WANT.4

Nuts!

The only problems is what to take out from the deck... but instant... well, everything, is awesome!
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How Old Are You? on: May 11, 2010, 01:58:46 pm
As i stated before im 23.
I started playing Magic by Urza's i think, with 11 y.old

The last deck i played in T2 was Psychatog, and that was the deck that i rotated with. I liked the deck so much that i kept playing in other formats where you could use it. Eventually i just went for Vintage, the starting point was my set of duals and FoW, got all of the ones i needed with a random guy selling his stuff. Got like 9 duals + a set of FoW for like 1/3 of the price.

Now im only playing TPS.

Ohhh, cool. Thank you Very Happy

The Ancestral Recall looks amazing, but i still like more the original artwork of lotus and timetwister.

The original Black Lotus artwork just looks so... majestic and beautiful Smile
And the original timetwister looks "normal", but best than the alt one... that looks too... twisted and ugly.

But i do like more the alt artwork from A.Recall, its just look more like its name in the alt artwork.

"From 2003 through 2005, the prizes were new versions of Black Lotus, Timetwister, and Ancestral Recall."

I dont remember any of those artworks, can someone post them?, cant find them anywhere  (I think the only one i kinda think i saw was the Ancestral Recall)

If you want help, listen to criticism. If you want validation that your deck is good, win a tournament and then write a report. That is how this forum works.

I have no comment about your deck or card choices.

This....

15  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Zendikar boosters include Ancestral Recall? on: September 25, 2009, 06:41:00 am
Even if this is real, i doubt it will have ANY impact on vintage...

It looks more like a promotion for the pre-releases and we dont know if this will continue after it.

And, if real, they are repacks... so they took already printed cards and just put them in boosters... so its not like they will be buying 100 p9 and then repacking them.
16  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Disfigure & Trapmaker's Snare on: September 21, 2009, 08:33:43 am
Trapfinder's Trick 1u (c)
Sorcery
Target player reveals his or her hand and discards all trap cards.

Confirmed...

So, very narrow.... but can see some play in the SB if Ravenous Trap/Mindbreak Trap end seeing a lot of play. (and maybe even more traps)
17  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Disfigure & Trapmaker's Snare on: September 20, 2009, 06:16:37 pm
Ravenous Trap
2bb
Instant - Trap - uncommon
If an opponent had three or more cards put into his or her graveyard from anywhere this turn, you may pay 0 rather than pay Ravenous Trap's mana cost.
Exile all cards from target player's graveyard.

Confirmed.
Seems cool.
18  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Disfigure & Trapmaker's Snare on: September 20, 2009, 10:54:24 am
Disfigure doesn't seem very good; Darkblast is better.  But the Snare is a little bit interesting, if only because it gets Mindbreak Trap in such a way that they only have to have played two spells so far this turn, which is much more practical; if there are more good traps, then maybe it's usable?

Actually, Mindbreak Trap only cost 0 if your opponent played 3 or more spells, not you.
I was just looking at the uses that the tutor could have with more good traps in the format.

I like Disfigure, doesnt cost a ritual like Infest nor 3 cards from the deck+card of turn (dredge) to kill a Teeg/cannonist/etc... actually, its very good against canonist because you dont have to cast anything before it.
19  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / [New Card Discussion] Disfigure & Trapmaker's Snare on: September 19, 2009, 11:55:09 pm
Disfigure
B
Instant - Common
Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn

and

Trapmaker's Snare
1U
Instant - Uncommon
Search your library for a trap card, reveal it, and put it into your hand.
Then shuffle your libary.

Its cool to finally have a black spell that cost just 1 that can kill creatures with 2 thoughness, like teeg, mindcensor, etc. OK, its not that powerful and stuff like other cards, but still, its good to have options besides Infest.

And the Trapmaker's Snare its like an instant merchant scroll, its limited but fairly costed (and instant), so, with more traps and stuff this could be very good. (Depends on the traps, if you are only going to run Mindbreak Trap its not, but if you run several traps, like te rumored Graveyard removal + others, could see play?)
20  Eternal Formats / Creative / [New Card Discussion] Sadistic Sacrament on: September 18, 2009, 06:43:36 am
Sadistic Sacrament
BBB
Sorcery - rare
Kicker 7
Search target player's library for up to three cards, exile them, then that player shuffles his or her library. If Sadistic Sacrament was kicked, instead search that player's library for up to fifteen cards, exile them, then that player shuffles his of her library.

I like it, but dont know if it will see play.

counters and removes vault/key. The wishes can't return exiled cards due to the recent changes, so no graveyard manipulation tricks. It also slightly weakens draw 7's.

This is what i like about this.

Another card that counters Mind's Desire (and Tendrils!)

No played card has been able to counter Mind's Desire.  I've seen Mind's Desire's stifled/trickbinded, only to have Yawgmoth's Will flipped.  Mind's Desire is so beyond good, it's like an unglued card.  It's amazing that we now have a way to counter it for free.

Wait, does this stop Storm from actually Triggering because you exile the card? So, no copies?

-Storm

No, you let the trigger for storm resolve putting the copies into the stack and then you cast it removing the original+copies... seems like nix got good?

But this only exiles one spell so wouldn't the copies still be on the stack? Your explanation didn't make sense the way you phrased it.

-Storm

No, read the card, exiles ANY NUMBER of target spells.... so, the original spell + all the copies if you want.

http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=94714&d=1252038014

Wow, I totally spaced that out. Wow, that makes the card a lot better. You can now live the dream and force your opponent to go all-in only to see their entire turn fizzle in a blaze of glorious failure. Wow, this card is indeed going to be THE hoser of hosers against Storm Combo *sad face- please unrestrict Brainstorm and give TPS a fighting chance?*

-Storm

Well, you can still face it with Duress, thoughtseize and your own counters.

And if this can get Brainstorm, ponder and other stuff unrestricted, that would be cool.

I could see this as a 1-of reemplacing cards that dont see that much use, like Fact or Fiction.

This reminds me of an inverted Pact of Negation, the former is very good when you are agressive, this is good defending.

Yes, and Thanks for proving my point, with the current meta... this is no-good.

I see the ups of this card in a storm/combo controlled meta, being blue and all to support FoW... but thats not happening (right now i mean)

Come on, some people are even saying this is better than FoW.... >_>

Since the printing of the first card that hoses Storm strategies people go all "ohhh storm is dead" and stuff... canonist, stifle, trickbind, leyline, CotV, nullrod, mindcensor, teeg, thorn of amethyst... even mindlock orb... and thats not the case to this days...  this is in the same category, sure, its good at what it does... but also other cards that have a boarder applications against other matchups as well.    And all in all, Storm still exists to this days (with less prescence, but still, can deal with all that hate)

The only card i see as a real storm killer is Trinisphere, but its because it doesnt even let you play your answers... thing that other hate cards let you do.

Anyways, its just another card that storm players will have to learn to play around (like T00L said)

Well, to close this... sorry about my reaction in the last post, but even you said that "Storm combo will always be a viable strategy (or, at least it will until we know jfor sure ust how good this card is against it)" ... we have to wait for the meta to change in favor of storm/combo to see if this will be played over other alternatives or not. (at least to fight combo/storm)
26  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [ZENDIKAR CARD DISCUSSION] Mindbreak Trap on: September 04, 2009, 07:23:24 am
But still, what storm player goes blind against a deck running blue?

Let's see... if only there were a card, artifact maybe, that could manipulate the top of your library and then let you draw a card at instant speed, thus dodging Duress effects... it'd be even better if this card was already widely played so people wouldn't have to adjust their decks too much to accomodate this new Storm hoser... man, what could fit that bill?  There's got to be something out there....

Ooooohhhh sarcasm... well done... that singleton is the real deal, now tell me wise one, what will you take out from your SB/main to fit this and in what decks? and how this will help you against most of the field?

Sorry, but this card just seems too narrow in the current meta.

Well since you don't need to run blue, that argument goes out the window. Also, unless your just the biggest champ on the planet, sometimes you'll have to risk it and just go off. Unless you like getting killed a turn by Time Vault before you could go off.

Like even if storm was completely unplayable (it isn't), at some point it's possible they'd be good again. Then something like this becomes a bit relevant. Also it's believed there's a cycle of 0cc trap cards, so it'll be interesting to see what the other ones are.

Does Exiling a spell counter it?

Cause if not this card sucks big time.

Yes, it removes it from the game so it never resolves.

Yeah, but im asking... what will you remove from a deck to fit this? or what will you take out of the SB?...   maybe if Storm decks becomes more played, but as it is now... i dont see it.

NOW, i could see this played in ICHORID... but... same thing.... you need your SB to fend off against hate... so where do you fit this?... thats the thing.

--- oh yeah, and i want to see if this is a cycle... the orb for "0" is 5... so it could be...   (maybe the black one will be some uber massacre effect if 3 or more creatures are in the battlefield... i hate that name.... )

And what decks will use it?, its useless against most of the field... storm is not precisely in its better days right now.
