1  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [OGW] Warping Wail on: January 12, 2016, 09:30:19 pm
looking thru the creatures listed that Warping Wail kills, that see vintage play, i dont believe i saw snapcaster mage mentioned anywhere.

also, the 3rd mode does more then just create surprise blockers/attackers or make mana, it also exiles bridge from below
2  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: UWR Monastery Mentor on: February 24, 2015, 11:13:05 pm
Jeb you wont be threat lite, just 1 mentor is enuff to win the game, hes a serious beating in vintage; SO many triggers.  also i know most will probably frown on this suggestion, but you mite consider rebuild in the main over hurkyl's, its just 1 more mana, lets u eot your opponent & re-run out all ur artifact mana for additional triggers & sometimes you just need to cycle it
3  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Bomberman Redux on: December 13, 2012, 11:47:14 pm
i was mainly just thinking out loud when i mentioned the lab maniac, brain freeze, as rich alrdy mentioned, was the other card that came to mind as a win now option.  i get that the deck generates such a huge advantage that its unlikely you're going to lose, but not losing doesnt necessarily mean winning.  & being able to win immediately isnt an altogether terrible idea.  if you were to say, take josh's u/w list & swap 1 card for a main deck brain freeze, i cant see how you'd be doing yourself an injustice trying it out
4  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Bomberman Redux on: December 12, 2012, 11:30:58 pm
why doesnt anyone run lab maniac as a 1 of in this deck?  the way the deck is set up, you can gain overwhelming advantage when you combo off but, you cant just win.  w/ the maniac you could just draw your deck & win immediately w/o having to pass turn.  + w/ cavern on human, he couldnt be countered (as if he could be countered w/ your whole library in your hand but you get the idea)

thats a good pt Zek
6  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Merfolk on: November 29, 2012, 08:16:07 am
my guess is that the image is in there as a foil for any big fatties that are 'oathed' or 'tinkered' in against you & its force-pitchable
7  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Vintage for Cash 4 (11 players) Lists Pics Results Vids! on: November 05, 2012, 05:42:55 pm
my apologies LH, i see that my reading skills(or lack thereof) are only surpassed by my magic abilities.  when i checked the drain this eveing after wrk, to see if anyone had responded, i noticed that it said 11 players in the subject heading   Sad
8  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Vintage for Cash 4 (11 players) Lists Pics Results Vids! on: November 05, 2012, 08:01:06 am

9  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Hypothetical - building a 0 sphere Workshop.dec on: March 05, 2012, 10:00:59 pm
just a quick question, why run a 4/2 haste dude that does 2 dmg to you just to CIP tapped?  wouldnt it be better to just run juggernauts?  or perhaps Karn to make use of all those inanimate artifacts lying around the battlefield?  also, i think i'd rather run revokers over CoTV in the main.  it goes along more w/ the whole no sphere concept & doubles as a beater

I tried Truth, but it wasn't worth a slot. The Dredger rarely gets to a point where he has more than 2 creatures in play.

if thats the case, then they're doing it wrong!  they should be swinging for lethal turn 2 or 3

Explosives is far too expensive for this deck. I really liked this card in UB Painter some years ago, but without Moxes, (in average) 4 Mana to cast and activate is too much. Even in the fullpowered decks 4 mana is a lot. Wainting and spreading the cost over 2 turns is often too slow.

4 mana?!  i think you're missing the pt of both E. truth & Explosives against dredge.  E. truth is just flat out a good catchall for things that get past your counters but against dredge its amazingly effective when you cast it naming zombie...  & Explosives wrks the same way, you drop it for zero & use it to sweep the board of all zero CMC zombie tokens
11  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] Vintage Avante Guarde - Vintage Bant at Meandeck Open on: January 12, 2012, 06:15:16 pm
i wouldnt too much about his bitching about dredge & bazaar in his article.  i think anyone w/ even a modicum of sense will see it for what its worth.  he mulled to 2 & lost a game of magic?!  & then goes on to say that he almost won!?  & then complains about the deck he lost to, seriously?!

why REB's over pyros?  both do what you're bringing them in for, but pyros could grow your goyf in a pinch if need be.  just curious about the 2 for 1 split & why not the other way around if you're worried about meddling mage or surgical extraction, etc etc
13  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Mountains Win Again is Back! on: December 05, 2011, 08:05:27 pm
i luv pyrokinesis, but i was focusing on your 4/5 tarmogoyf problem.  do the decks that run tarmogoyf against you, run alot of artifacts?  if not you could side the null rods out in that match up & bring in relics of progenitus.  sweeping the yards should make tarmogoyf more manageable & net you a card

Another well run tourney, hope there will be more in the future.  Props to Thomas Penderghast for winning the whole thing w/ his emrakul oath build & the sickest card selection i've seen in a long time, Channel was a beast!

For quite some time.  If they were red creatures and NON-artifact it would have been for sure.  In my eyes, with the 4 Wurmcoil they have the same cost, but for now, the 2 toughness is two much of a risk for me. Zombie Tokens/Bloodghasts should not trade 1 for 1 with hardcast fat in my opinion.

i'm sure this was just an oversight, but bloodghasts cant block
19  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Mountains Win Again is Back! on: June 07, 2011, 08:32:54 pm
ditto what troy & vaughnbros said about blood moon, i wont say its a back-breaker, but it most definitely stymies most type 1 decks; yes i said type 1, i'm old.   Very Happy  coupled w/ a "null rod effect", thats usually game over most of the time.  realistically, how many vintage decks run basic lands?  maybe 3 in fish & 5 max in tezz?  a cpl in oath, none in dredge...  VB made some valid pts, the deck is hurt by its lack of card advantage & a strong clock.  thats why i was thinking of adding tezz's gambit to my version & cutting null rod for revokers; he doubles as a beater & he'll shut down the stuff you most likely want to stop anyways.  that would allow for the use of immolating souleaters & for any of you that havent used him or played against him in type 2, he's pretty nasty.  since i dont own any of the ridiculously expensive imperial recruiters, i run multiple gorilla shamans, so the mana crypt killing me isnt an issue & it certainly helps w/ powering out a "blood moon effect"
20  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Mountains Win Again is Back! on: June 06, 2011, 10:40:31 pm
madmanmike25 makes a good pt, if you're going all out for the 1st turn "blood moon effect", then lotus petal should definitely be your 60; along w/ mana crypt; although i believe the sol ring is debateable .  i also agree w/ him, that you should be running more mox monkeys.  you may be able to get away w/ moving the fanatics to your sideboard.  although i liked them as a 4 of in my version of this build.  as you mentioned, this deck doesnt finish ppl off very quickly, its more about establishing a soft lock 1st & beatdown 2nd.  like you, i ran 2 lavamancers, but i also ran 2 koths as a finisher.  however, if you up the gorilla shaman to a 4 of, you may be able to forego the use of null rod all together & run immolating souleaters to finish off your opponents faster while they're struggling under the "moon".  on a sidenote, i ran fetchlands too, not b/c i really needed them to find a mtn, but to help fill up my "yard" to better utilize my lavamancers
21  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Dark Times Primer on: May 18, 2011, 07:00:05 pm
Not speaking for 2nd lawl, since he's the master yoda of Dark Depths, but as a DD pilot myself, the difference in casting cost of geth's verdict vs edict is negligible @ best, but w/ the amount of dmg we deal ourselves, the loss of life mite actually be problematic in the event that we have to geth's/edict 1 of our own bob's.  not to mention, that the deck runs 5 "strip" effects, so the double black @ times might be an issue
22  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Hex Parasite on: May 05, 2011, 10:31:40 pm
after reading the LCV 2011 April tourney report & seeing that remora gush took the top spot, that got me to thinking about hex parasite.  could you not use its ability to keep removing the age counters off mystic remora to keep it online longer?
23  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: The MUD Thread on: April 30, 2011, 01:21:55 am
For some reason I would feel dirty playing with blue cards in a MUD deck though.

haha i feel ya, but before you have MUD, you gotta have a little water!   Very Happy

could try running tezz's gambit in place of thorns...?
24  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: The MUD Thread on: April 28, 2011, 04:55:29 pm
Tezzeret's Gambit from the new set may be interesting in shop decks b/c it would provide them w/ some card draw. a phyrexian blue & 3 to draw 2 cards & proliferate.  go ahead & put an extra counter on that tanglewire!  =)  or should that be a =(
25  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] The Q1 Vintage Metagame Report on: April 28, 2011, 04:34:15 pm
impressive article Matt, tons of data!  not a critque, just a quick note, the dark depths deck that i played in Durham 3/26 wasnt B/W, it was mono black.  the 1 karakas main & the 1 in the sideboard where only there for iona.  peace
26  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Dark Times Primer on: January 30, 2011, 01:50:07 pm
2nd lawl - how the heck do you handle an "oathed" up Iona?  she's getting getting on my nerves   Very Happy
27  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Different Kinds of Workshop Decks on: January 09, 2011, 12:52:50 am
i'd say that the reason for that is b/c of "dredge".  it forces folks to run alot of graveyard hate in their sideboards, which impacts other bazaar-based stategies
