So if I remember correctly the last conversation about vintage tournament numbers, the total number tournaments was conflated with old school magic. I would be quite happy with bimonthly vintage instead of trimonthly. The second to last was around xmas, which I missed because of xmas travel, and I missed the last because of work travel so I won't have a chance to play for 3/4 of the year on the current schedule. Given that 23 showed up (a record since restarting eudo vintage), perhaps it is time to open this conversation up again.

To the point of "there are too many vintage and old school tournaments". First, I would not clump vintage and old school together for this count. I know the few people who have replied likely lump them together, I am just pointing out that is the minority. Which leaves us with 6 tournaments in 9 months I believe. I think that is quite a good ratio as I would rather play vintage over any other formats. I actually think this is quite fantastic. Previously, when I lived in other regions of the country getting 4 vintage tournaments a year was incredibly unlikely unless you were cool with driving 3 states away. I think the problem is not vintage vs other formats just magic vs life in this situation. Keep on scheduling them, people will come if they can. If we get 20, great. If we get 9, great. If we don't have a tournament, I predict zero people will be playing vintage.

We played 5 rounds before determining the top4. Steve and Jeff IDed in round 4 going to 3-0-1 apiece and after that round Ryan and I were well ahead on tiebreakers and had played each other already, Ryan had played Steve so that meant Steve vs me in Rd 5 and Jeff vs Ryan in Rd5. We of coursed IDed because that would lock us all in. So Steve and Jeff were 3-0-2 and Ryan and I finished at 3-1-1. Ryan lost to Steve and I lost to Ryan. Steve, Jeff and I had to return to the bay and Ryan to Sacramento and as we didn't start until after 2 playing 2 more rounds as well as the big difference between the split and 3/4 pay out made ($72 vs $28) not splitting kind of illogical. So hopefully that gives a little more perspective on why we didn't play out the last two matches. Anyway, no one particularly cared about seeding so if Steve wants first than that is fine with me, he was first after round 5. For me it is more like Steve and Jeff finished first and Ryan and I second.

yes brainstorm is in the list. great tourney, I thought batterskull would be pretty decent but it was quite dominant all day. I bounced the skull more in this vintage tourney than my total combined experience with the card, it just jumps right out of the way of all those grudges and trygon triggers. My one loss came against ryan reynolds playing one of Stephan's lists. In game 3 I lead with thoughtseize seeing some stuff including one T1 mana source, a dark rit and yawgs bargain. I am on the play and have mana drain for T2 so I take bargain because it seems the worst if he can resolve something, he rips necro of the top and plays it via his rit. The only play that keeps him in the game, what a mise!

I'm pretty sure Steve used lotus in his storm turn making 14 goblins and going to one card and then vampiric tutored on the next upkeep. So I'm not sure how using FoW on the spell instead of misstep is worse unless his draw is time walk as he was hellbent until the draw step. Maybe I'm wrong though.
This is my recollection of game 3
Im on the play I play t1 remora and mox, sol ring go to 19 life off a fetch His T1, he plays 7 spells, I draw 7 cards I think he expected me to FoW spell 6 ,oath, but i had my one abrupt decay in hand mox emerald and mox jet he makes 14 goblins and has 1 card in hand, pass I start the turn with 9 cards going to 10 I play more artifact mana including mana crypt, Jace, Jacestorm into time vault blue card and tinker. I play vault and pass with FoW, blue card, and misstep, tinker D tutor Steve casts vampiric in his upkeep, I assume to get timewalk, i misstep, 19-->17 you attack 17-->3 pass I die to mana crypt roll.

another fun tourney although today the force (and a bit of math skills) were lacking for me. I played a remora gush list similar to R Gonzalez's September LCV event except I packed main deck thoughsieze. Rd1 I lost to Web 1-2 G1 he casts ancestral twice and lands jace G2 I have tinker--> BSC with FoW backup G3 he casts ancestral twice and lands Jace
Rd2 I smash the bye
Rd3 I get smashed by shops 0-2 At this point I have drawn BSC in three of my five games, sometimes the force (luck) isn't with you (that or I just can't play this game which is a possiblity)
Rd4 I play against Menendian and lose in 3 Game1 I get out T1 remora and draw a ton of cards and stop him from doing anything Game 2 he mulls to 5 but has a T1 oath with orchard draw I kept 6 including drain and ancestral but can't find an answer to oath Game 3 he T1's 14 goblins and I lose because I pay 2 life for a mental misstep on his vampiric (he was going for time walk I assume) instead of FoW and then lose from 3 life to my mana crypt roll with time vault on board and tinker in hand to replace crypt with key... oh well I've never been good at math... or thinking in certain positions.
Regardless, I'll be back for more next time.
