Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Single Card Discussion] Mana Crypt, The $30 Mox
|

I think the store by me has them for $20. I know they were that much like a year and a half ago, so I went home and checked eBay. $12 later, I had one. So now they're going for double that, huh? Gotta get to the store ASAP and see if they're still there.
Mana Crypt is quite broken. However, I have seen it hurt people bad in tournaments.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Discussion] When is the price of a mox out of hand?

It doesn't seem to show any signs of stopping.
[brag]Which is fine by me. I paid $100 for my Mox Sapphire on eBay 4 years ago, and got my Pearl for $125 then too. Hell, a year ago I paid $165 for my Emerald, $175 for my Ruby, and $200 for my Jet. I was worried I overpaid, but I couldn't be more wrong. Go baby go!!!! [/brag]
It's not just Moxes- look at the Lotus, Bazaar, Workshop, and Illusionary Mask. All have shot up recently. Look's like the sky's the limit.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / mana issues - a short perspective
|

The reason that no one's been able to fix the problem after 10+ years is that there is no fixing it. Everyone's had one of those days when mana's just not working for you, and you're left feeling bummed out about Magic.
New players tend to not put enough mana in their decks (and put lots of expensive cards in). Part of the learning curve is learning how to add mana and use cheaper spells.
All you can do is try to reduce the manascrew/manaflood as best you can. While you play, keep track of how many games you were manascrewed, manaflooded, and how many games were just right. If it's skewed to the screw side, add land. If it's skewed the other way, take some land out.
Also, draw spells (Brainstorm, Accumulated Knowledge) help to solve mana screw, and cards that utilize late-game lands (Wild Mongrel, Trade Routes) help with that "this land is useless now" feeling.
Anybody else have suggestions?

Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Cube: Best format ever?

If you really have too much time on your hands, you could print them all out, But that'll sorta ruin the fun, too. Yeah, I was thinking something like that. But it would definitely take a long time, and color copies of many of the cards would cost more in ink than the value of the original card itself  Thinking, thinking, thinking... LordLamneth

Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Cube: Best format ever?

Sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. I've wanted to do this ever since I read the Big Box Draft article on Magicthegathering.com. Only problem is, I'm never gonna be able to get a copy of every single card. Is there any possible way to "emulate" a big box draft? Like maybe use random numbers to pick cards, and then proxy the picks onto lands or something? Anyone got any ideas?

Gilded Lotus is fun to chuck to Thirst For Knowledge, and then Trash For Treasure out of the 'yard.
Also, I've seen people dump Duplicant, and then Trash (or Welder) it out as a good way to remove your opponent's creatures.
