Meant to ask who won the No-Proxy prize? I think me and Joe Brown were the only two in the top 8, did he win vs. Justin?

It was me, you and joe brown. Joe brown won vs Justin so he won it.

Well, I we can make anything of this even, wouldn't that be that he's not so awesome, seing that only 1/5 top 8'd, making Snapcaster one of the worst archtypes?

I landed in 9th on breakers playing 4x snapcasters. I just wanted to test the guy out. My take right now is that hes good, but not as good as bob.

How come you didn't play it @ waterbury?

If I would have been picked for team Philly, we would have come out on top. With 12 Gushes. Just saying.

Yeah I should probably apologize for my Joe Brown vote. I didn't expect him to refuse to shake the hands of his opponents and rage quit the tournament.

13  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: First place at Bloomsburg TPG #6 on: June 27, 2011, 08:36:34 am
Thrun seems pretty terrible as he is still weak to mindbreak trap, and doesn't actually change the board state in any meaningful way.

on the draw vs shops i took out Timetwister, Merchant scroll, Thirst, 2 Rebs, 3 Remora and the clique i think for 4 ingot chewer, 2 bolt, pithing needle, hurkyl's and engineered explosives. I didn't really know my opponent very well and didn't think he would play around the traps, instead relying on that explosive first turn that shops often needs. And mid to late game, they just become another hard counter.

i guess i forgot the <joke></joke> tags around thrun.

Yeah i guess there are a lot of cards you'd want to cut.

14  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: First place at Bloomsburg TPG #6 on: June 27, 2011, 07:47:34 am
But Shawn and I were testing last night after the tourney and we have a little surprise for you and other heavy disruption control decks. Hahahaha.

OMG, Thrun sighting.....

Good Job Joe.

What did you board out game 1? I mean i guess it ended up being ok, but keeping mindbreak traps in vs shops seems interesting. I would think they would be some of the first cuts. Maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks paul. I like this deck, josh. This might be what I have been  looking for. I decided to play oath becuase I expected a ton of wierd aggro decks in bloom.

17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Lucked my way in and Punted my way out of the T8 at Blue Bell #12 on: February 17, 2011, 11:38:46 pm
It is something I still haven't decided. I think I would have more fun playing tyrants, but I did win at least one game because of breath.

I'm not a big fan of oath decks in general though I hate having so many cards in my deck that create automatic mulligans. It was really a last minute decision.

I also feel like this was pretty weak t8 appearance as I just lucked my through some matches.
18  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Lucked my way in and Punted my way out of the T8 at Blue Bell #12 on: February 15, 2011, 10:35:27 pm

1 Perish
2 Ravenous Trap
1 Relic of Progenitus

The night before I was planning on playing a GAT list with some Lotus Cobra's in it. However I was testing it vs MUD and got body rocked like 100 to 1.  I decided to put something similar to Elias's GG oath deck and just hope it was good enough to not require any play testing. I typically play decks with islands, key/vault, and/or storm cards so I hoped I could just lean on key vault all day.  My notes aren't great so I might mess some stuff up.

ROUND 1
Rob
I know Rob pretty well from previous events and before we start and I put him on Tez or Gush.
G1 (0-1)
He wins the die roll. I pick up my first hand ever with this deck and it is like:
Emrakul, Dragons Breath, Dragons Breath, Yawgmoth's Will, Orchard,  Jace, Mox Pearl.
We both decide to mull in about a half a second.
I end up mulling to 5 on the draw and he thoughtseizes me on turns one and two. After seeing my frantic search he puts me on storm and I think about trying to make it though the game without him knowing I am on oath.  A turn or two later I draw brainstorm into oath, time walk, orchard and I think I may have a chance.  I play orchard and oath and pass. Unfortunately, he plays an orchard on his turn. I am still fine as my hand is Time Walk and Frantic Search both of which can give him more guys than he can give me. I decide to Time Walk because it'll just end the game, but unfortunately he had spell pierce  and then played another orchard on his turn.  I draw another orchard like a boss, but he played top, turned it into a demonic tutor and then got will and did a bunch of stuff that made him win.

G2(0-2)
I didn't see any wastland/strip mine shenanigans so I boarded a land and 2 oaths out for 3 rebs.

He mulls to 6 and I lead with thoughtseize  this time and see:
Brainstorm, Spell Pierce, Crypt, Key, Academy, Mana Drain
I take crypt hoping to lock him out of mana a few turns as I can hopefully get oath down before he can get both counters online. He gets some land draws, but I eventually get Oath/Orchard down on him and pass. He plays key and vault and wins

(0-1)

ROUND 2
Mike
He wins he roll and decides to play.
I know mike plays some different decks and I didn't know what to expect. I was thinking it was likely that he would be playing things that attack.

G1(1-0)
He led with a forest and passed. I didn't really think he was playing blue, my notes say I sat on spell pierce and I drew brainstorm and waited a turn to cast Oath so I could protect with pierce.  At the end of his turn I brainstormed and put emrakul 2 down, drew for turn played orchard, oath, and he let it resolve. He played a land swung for 1 and passed. I Oathed into emrakul, played time vault and passed.  He played a stasis. I swung and he had stasis and an island left after Emrakul eat all of his permanents. I skipped my turn to time vault to clear stasis out and then Emrakul eat the rest of his stuff.

G2(2-0)
He led with island, lotus, crack lotus for green, and played top and root maze. I had a tinker on turn 1,  and he was at 3 cards so I decided to force the root maze and go for it. However he dazed my force and in the process accidentally flashed a 2nd daze in his hand.  After a tapped fetch, and a mox for me, I pass back and he played forsaken city, and topped.  I decide to wait on a  possible blue card to protect my tinker and lay another land to get out of daze range.  I draw a blue card and tinker which resolves and ends the game shortly in the hands of BSC.

(1-1)

ROUND 3
Andy (I think, my notes just say A)
I have no idea what he plays and I straight up luck my way thought this round.

G1(1-0)
He wins the die roll and then leads with a swamp after looking at this hand for a bit. He says something about giving away what he is playing. My opening hand has 1 land (fetch), Lotus and Oath, but no counters.  I figure him saying that puts him on Dark Times or Ant.  If its Dark Times I shouldn't let him draw a discard spell and slam down Oath Asap.  However If he is playing ANT I probably lose. I crack fetch and get an island to protect from wasteland and play Oath.
This is about where Colby Evenpence enters the picture and decides to comment on all of Andy's plays. Andy plays Mana Vault, Mox Jet,  Ritual, and gets storm pretty high. He vamps, puts a card on top and then  pauses to think a bit. He then goes wow I just punted and picked up his cards for game 2.

I don't think i really have any board cards for this matchup.

G2
My mull to 6 is pretty Juicy for this matchup. Fetch, Thoughseize, Force, Preordain, Spell Pierce, Orchard
My notes say he leads with swamp, Go. I play thoughtseize and he reveals:
Swamp, Nature's Claim, Ritual, Jet, Chrome Mox, Ad Nauseum
I pick Ad Nauseum  and pass back.  He draws another Ad Nauseum in a turn or two and makes his move. I force it.  On the next turn he casts Consultation and I can't stop it. He names Ad Nauseum and flips one in the first two or three, and keeps going. I guess he does run 4. Luckily for me the 4th one is like 12 cards from the bottom and most of his good cards are gone. I figure there is only 1 tendrils left and yawgwill and a lot of his mana is now binned. He lays a ton of mana and gets storm to about 5 after I pierce a ritual to keep him at 4 mana. He decides to mini tendrils me which is probably a mistake considering all his other copies are in the yard. He scoops a few minutes later.
(2-1)

ROUND 4
Roman
Again I don't really have a pre-game read on what he is playing, but I'm pretty sure he knows what I'm playing. He was part of a conversation I was having outside about the deck I was playing.

G1(1-0)
I win the die roll and mull to 6. (All the dead cards in this deck result in a lot of mulls.)
I play a land and sit on pierce. He leads with a workshop and passes. I try to imagine what his hand could look like if he kept a hand with no t1 play, but just feel lucky at this point. I lay a land and preordain into an oath and pass. He plays a second shop and says "Let's get a beater down" and slams down Duplicant and passes. At this point I am sure he doesn't know what I am playing. This game ends shortly after this with Emrakul eating lots of artifacts.
I board in 4 nature's claims for 2 thoughtseizes and I struggle with taking out either Jace or Frantic Search. The plan was to board out Jace's, but I feel like Jace is still good in this matchup and don't anticipate living the dream with some frantic search/tangle wire interaction. I think it'll just cost 5 mana and be terrible anyway.

G2(1-1)
This game is kind of a blow out. He leads with Leyline of Sanctitiy and chalice on two. I eventually have nature's claim and demonic tutor and try to head down the path of blowing up the chalice and tinkering. I get the dt off, but he plays lodestone, and then a sculpting steel on each of his next turns effectively leaving me 1 off tinker each turn until im dead.

G3(2-1)
Crypt,  Land, Tinker,  GG

ROUND 5
Vito
I drove down with Vito and know he is on Gush Tendrils.

G1(1-0)
So my hand is the stone cold nuts. Sol Ring, Mox, Dual, Tinker, Force, Jace, Island. I tinker out BSC and he doesn't have a force.  It's also hard to win with Gush with only 1 land drop before you are dead.

G2(2-0)
I get down Orchard, Oath early. I have Dragon's Breath in Hand.  He Lotus's into Jace, but has 2 tokens. He jacestorms into Necropotence and draws a  bunch of cards. I hit BSC and attempt to hard card Dragon's Breath on him. He forces and bounces him. He then puts together a mini tendrils putting him at 23 life. Here is where it gets weird. He draws like 10 cards. He must know I'm going to hit Emrakul and Dragon's Breath him from the yard, why drop below 15? Anyway I start to think of answers he might have and can't think of one, even though my hand is a bunch crap and I can't do anything anyway. So I Oath into Emrakul and he eats all of his stuff. Maybe he forgot about the breath.

ROUND 6
Keith
I know Keith as he lives about 2 miles from my house. If we draw it puts us at 13 points and there is only 1 person at 10.  I have the same exact breakers as the person at 10. We decide to risk it instead of one of us knocking the other out.  I walk over and watch the match of the person at 10.

So this match is Ed Carey vs Shawn Griffiths.  Griffiths is on Oath and I assume Ed is on some kind of shops.
G1 Shawn wins as Ed just gets locked out of games with poor draws.
G2 Ed sits on his Duplicants and makes some good plays to stop Shawn from ever getting ahead.
G3 Shawn eventually hard casts a Tyrant and it gets Duplicanted. Eventually Oath comes down and Shawn gets an activation, but mills to about 6 cards left. Eventually he pulls the games out, but after brain freezing Ed for a million decides to scoop to him.

Luckily my breakers were still good enough I guess it was just a good day. I feel like I got lucky breaks every round.

T8
So I punted game one pretty bad. You can read about it  here http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=41913.0 .

In come the nature's claims.

G2
I mulled to 5 and even that hand had a bsc in it. Anyway it had Island, Preordain and I decided to hope for the best. I was destroyed.

Thanks for the article Matt. However i couldn't find anywhere to pay you 9$ to read it. I thought that was the norm now.

vs. Dredge -- Good               vs. Dredge -- Poor/Fair

heh... How do you come to this conclusion?

Also as that stands its 3 to 2 and you have listed a bunch of decks that are similar as good match ups for gt10. For example TPS and bob tendrils.
What if we list a whole bunch of stax variants?

27  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: TPTS - The Perfect Tropical Storm on: October 21, 2010, 10:09:34 am
how is this deck better than the drain version?...
It seems to me like this deck is very VERY dependent on Jace in order to have consistency.

I think Jace is important in these matchups. Resolved Jace usually means I win. However, it also has everything the above decks
have. So... becuase it has Jace and can use it to win, it is too reliant on Jace? I'm sorry but I don't see a problem with a deck
having win conditions.

I think Drain variants of Gush-Storm would pound this deck into a bloody pulp. This deck may, admittedly, have better game vs. MUD and Fish than the Drain variants.

So maybe it has a bad matchup (which has yet to be proven) at the cost of having a better matchup in other games.
Isn't this game about matchups? Maybe mud/fish is more prevalent in our area.

I think the Drain variants are fine in those match-ups post SB.

So "your" deck is better post board? What stops me from running these cards too? Oh yeah I don't need to becuase as you said it "This deck may, admittedly, have better game". Ut oh this clears up some room in the board to beat drain decks, which I don't need becuase my deck is "very VERY dependent on Jace" a card that excels in this matchup.

weaksauce, alright....

This built with cobras and jaces is totally different from TTS. You are playing jace, which is a great control card, but with it you are playing for a mid-long game. The same for LoA.

I think its good in the deck.  Maybe well call it something different. How about TJS (The Jace Storm)
The thought with library was that we could sneak in an extra draw here or there with gush putting 4 cards in hand.
It's also sweet with necro. I think we were just planning on using library in a different way.

The same goes for Jace really. Sometimes I just beleive the next 6-10% of my deck will win the game.

You don't have to sit on your hands. Who is the beatdown here anyway?

Cobras arenīt needed here, they generate tons of mana, but you are not using them for anything.

I used them to cast stuff vs shops and attack for 2.

Also drawing cobras should be very frustating if you are trying to get spells and win.

I agree. It sucks to draw dead rituals too. On the other hand its cool to just throw them on top with Jace
fetch em away and genetate 3 mana while im at it.
28  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: TPTS - The Perfect Tropical Storm on: October 21, 2010, 08:36:42 am
