Unstablecornbread(Brent) and TheIneffable(BK) won the trivia contest and received his art as prizes. Just fantastic. I asked to buy some of his pieces. Unfortunate that he wasn't allowed to sell there as he could have sold his entire collection. He also had one piece made into a 3D life counter.
As far as the Foil Balance I was under the impression a judge provided those and had a stack of them. Don't lose sleep over that. Those things were trading for cheap there. They've come down a lot.

Legend can be annoying, but maybe......

BK - I wasn't going to get into this "annoying banned people" posting thing, but please don't call him Legend. That just bothers me. That name belongs to someone else here on the boards. Two different people. When refering to Brian Woo please use one of the many names he's been given or uses. Thanks, Tom Wink

Just wanted to say it was great to finally match faces to names. Tracerbullet, Akuma, Robert the Swordsman.
SpikeyMikey and David I remembered from San Diego. Jaco you were playing when I got there. I'll catch you next time. What a bunch of great guys.
Hopefully Christiaan will post his thoughts on the event and top 8.

On the Plus Side, I met a lot of TMD'rs, including Robert the Swordsman, Dave Hernandez, Tracerbullet, and many others. Also, I got to see those cool 3d Magic cards by that Asian artist dude. I'm trying out his techniques on some spare Chimney Imps as we speak! Lastly, the top 8 matchups were truly amazing to watch. Christian piloting Smemmen's Monoblue versus Random-Miser's Invincible Counter Troll was crazy. (This is where the real drama was, although I won't spill the beans in the open Needless to say, I watched the Random-Miser's side of all the following matches to see was happened. TheLegendOfMagic disrupted all the key resorces of Random-Miser's mana base and TheLegendOfMagic is known for some insane TopDecking skills (well, 4cc DOES have a lot of great cards in there, you know?)

Jeff - Unless one of the top 8 guys asked you not to post because there going to, go ahead and fill us in on all the details. It was a great week for sure, I know the Socal guys (great guys) went close to 36 hours without sleep if they drove straight back. Hopefully they stayed over. Events of this size should start at 10:00a.m. 98 players!

You heard it here First, Brian Woo IS the Legend of Magic (4CC) due to his taking home a BLACK LOTUS, beating out RANDOM-MISER (Texas) (ICT: Invincible Counter Troll UBR, minus the Trolls (in come Memnarch, Midslaver and Pentavus)...) who took home a sucky ass ANCESTRAL RECALL!!! Talk about Battle of the Banned! C&J's Louis (something with Workshops, I believe) took home the 3rd prize Pearl, and TracerBullet (SoCal) (I completely don't remember what he played. Get official/accurate coverage elsewhere soon) took home a mint Library. Congrats.

I don't think I saw or heard of a single deck playing with Mr. Teeth. (makes me wonder if Tog is indeed dead. Not a criticism of Tog. I'm just filling in details of the Tourney Meta)

There was lots of juicy drama at the top 8, but I will not discuss it here (but it exists! The DRAMA!). The final round involved Brian Wu's 4CC
outmising Roy's ICT deck. I'm telling you, drama!!!

Wow!
There was plenty of drama the whole week, no doubt about it. Well congratulations to the winners. I'm sure more news will trickle in.

Huge! 98 players.
As of 1:00 a.m. PST round 7 was starting. Looking at 4:00 a.m. for it to wrap up. Maybe. I'm sure most of the guys will fill in the details today or Monday. Top 8 looks to be C&J, SoCal, and the Europeans. Zhalfirin was doing very well, maybe he'll fill us in later.

Anyway as it turns out I'm not 100% sure I will be there in time for the big T1 event. As life would have it my real son has a Saturday afternoon football game. Usually these happen on a Friday night under the lights, but it's an away game. I'll be cutting it close. I'll see you guys when I can.

Football Score
Us 51, Them 7

The event starts in 15 minutes and I'm an hour away. I'll post the results later. I'm still going  to cheer on the C&J crew and meet the rest of the California players.

This morning before going in I had to stand outside and enjoy the view of San Francisco. Worlds is being held right next to the Bay. The Golden Gate Bridge is off to the left, Alcatraz Island is straight ahead, all surrounded by the waters of the San Francisco Bay. Probably what inspired me to write all this.

Inside I spent the morning standing in lines getting my cards signed. If your not playing that's what you do. I have to say all the artist have been great about signing and doing art. Prior to that I had been play testing with my sons Brent and Phuong. That's what I call them, sons. Just something we started a while back.

I have to say there's quite a bit of power floating around. I think Saturdays T1 looks to be huge. The competition looks to be very good. If you're coming expect the best. This won't be a twenty man tournament. The C&J table has had people buying up Type I cards just for this event.

Today I also played a game with Richard Garfield. That was fun. Wizards supplies the decks, reach into a box and pull one out. Mine was marked WW w/equip on a plastic card. I open it up and see it's all new cards, with new faces. It's funny because Garfield and I are doing, and thinking the same thing. I say hold on I'm an old guy I have to read these first, I don't know all these new cards. He says same here with a laugh and a smile. We're bonding.  To keep it short he go's down in 4-5 turns as I had a hand full of little men. I ask if he'll sign the rest of my power cards. So that completes the last of my signed Richard Garfield cards. With that I depart for the day.

Anyway as it turns out I'm not 100% sure I will be there in time for the big T1 event. As life would have it my real son has a Saturday afternoon football game. Usually these happen on a Friday night under the lights, but it's an away game. I'll be cutting it close. I'll see you guys when I can.

Good luck to all of you.

Signed Lotus by Garfield and Rush today. Mr.Garfield in gold ink, Mr. Rush in silver. What a great day. Freebie deckbox has new set artwork on it with built in life counter. The artist Seishirou Ookubo, fantastic artwork. It must be seen to be believed. Unfortunately it's not for sale. He does have 6 pieces up for silent auction for charity.

If anyone wants to view the cards up for prizes, they're in the case at the C&J booth.

Front page updated.
Wizards isn't kicking in for prizes. So it's prizes for first thru fourth. But keep in mind it's over $1500.00 in power cards. Four lucky players are going to walk in, pay a $10.00 entry and walk away with a Black Lotus, Ancestral, Emerald, and a LIbrary. Sweet.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Worlds-T1 Side Event- Who's going? on: August 27, 2004, 01:36:27 pm
Look for most of us at the C&J dealers table when we're not playing. Most of the guys will be playing in side events all thru the week.  Looks to be a very exciting time.
I'm a bit surprised there isn't more interest from the rest of the country. Worlds won't pass this way for another 4 years.
13  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Worlds-T1 Side Event- Who's going? on: August 26, 2004, 02:35:49 pm
I know that most of us can only post in the basic forums. So I'm starting this thread to get an idea of who's coming. I know that C&J will bring in 20-30 people by itself. So post if you will be making it.

Here's the info as a reminder:

Where's Phantom Tape Worm and Saucemaster? This is the saddest trash talking thread. If it can't even stir up some good muck how good can the event be?

I'll say it again, forget this event and come out to San Francisco for the "real" World Championship Type 1 event.
Hell, I'll even draw the winner a picture to go along with the Lotus for first place if he or she wants.

World Championship? Surely wizards must realize a World Championship can only be held @ Worlds. Not Gen con. I mean, what could they be thinking. Look at that prize structure. I think you folks should skip this event and come to the real Worlds Type 1 event in California. Just look at this prize structure:

1st Unlimited Black Lotus
2nd Unlimited Ancestral Recall
3rd Unlimited Mox Pearl
4th Library of Alexandria
All for a $10.00 entry fee?

@ shortbus- If any of you guys make it out, first drink and lap dance is on me. Wink

3 C&J players in the top 4. Looks like Ken wins it all. It'll be interesting to see what tech they took to Las Vegas.

Ken Johnson - Kilo here on Tmd
Brent Peterson - Unstablecornbread here on Tmd
Dan Messineo - no tmd account yet?

I just edited my original post to reflect the huge prizes being put up by C&J. With the quality of prizes being awarded this will certainly be a 60+ person event. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go much higher.
Edit:
There's a lot of talk that this may get close to 80 players.

Ducky - At least tell us what decks you faced. At the very least I would like to know how the match between you and Ken went, since that was your only loss. Also how did those Decree of Justice work for you? Can't say I've seen them in Landstill, but it's not a deck I always follow. I can see some advantages to White in the deck. Pretty sexy decklist you have there big guy.
