I'm a student at Tulane, and have since evacuated. Basically: Get out. Now. Even the local newscasters were saying "Look, if you're still here and you're hearing this, get out." -Dave If you're not out, get to the Superdome ASAP. You might survive that way. Your property won't.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / General Tips When Going To A Tournment

I'd like to point out two things: First, while I'm all for people who play the game for fun, place no value in the competition or prize, or really consider going to a tournament for anything other than socializing, please don't assume that all other people share your disposition.
The normalized goal at a tournament is competition, i.e.: to win. Because of this, not all people can or should be expected to take the lenient approach that some choose.
I bring this up because as someone who knows the rules very well (I'd apply to be a judge if I had more time), I often get accused of 'rules lawyering'. There's no such thing as 'rules lawyering'. There's following the rules, and there is breaking the rules. I'm not a 'rules lawyer' for requiring my opponent to follow all the rules, my opponent is a cheater for breaking them.
Personally, I don't mind allowing takebacks in certain minor instances (replaying a land would be OK, replacing Brainstorm'd cards might not be so cool), but I get quite angry when people assume they have the right to take things back. They don't. You make mistakes on your own, you take things back at your opponent's allowance.
That said, the best summary for all this is simply Don't be a dickhead. Peace, -outta

What does this do if there's a Control Magic on your creature? Does the Control Magic re-assert itself at any point? Or does the player with Control Magic just have an ineffective Control Magic? -outta

I don't like this card. I find it to be too much of a 'spell on a stick', without having the 'stick' aspect (I mean 'stick' as creature, not stick as 'Isochron Scepter'.)
Looking at [card]Eternal Witness[/card], it has 2 power. Could this have 2 power? Basically, I'm looking to give this card a reason why it _had_ to be a creature, rather than an enchantment similar to the Seals, or simply a sorcery.
Or, alternatively, am I overlooking the permanent type as a drawback? I.e.: Summoning sickness and succeptability to the majority of removal?

Eternal Formats / Creative / Know the meta game, need the deck...

Given that he's playing alot of control and weak aggro, wouldn't either TnT or UG Madness be appropriate? Tweak the boards with Ground Seal and go to 4 Null Rods (vs Dragon and Nevinryall's Disk/Moxes/Scepters, respectivly).
Tog is the premiere control deck, but instead of out-controlling the (lesser) control decks, which IMO is a risky deal, why not just play an archetype that control has difficulties with (i.e.: aggro).

I can see this card being really really really good in game 2 of Slaver vs Tog. Togs permanents include: Mana sources. Slaver's permanents include: Mana sources + other stuff. Also, Tog's 3 or 4 color dependencies can be hampered by this card. However, what does Slaver remove for this card?

The Red creature's ability seems to be underpowered relative to the rest, primarily because Haste far more narrow than say, Discard, Draw, Pump, or Protection. While any of the other abilities can be useful just about any time, Haste is only useful when you have a creature with summoning sickness on the board and you want to play a spell during your 1st main phase. It seems far more limited than the other abilities. Perhaps something like "deal up to 3 damage divided among any number of creatures" would be more appropriate. Also: Isn't the white creature immune to all forms of targeted removal and targeted burn?

This is going to be locked in a hurry. Why? Because: 1) It is an outdated deck that is by and large superceded by many other decks in the format (most notably, Hulk). 2) Your post includes no description of the deck/strange card choices. (Seat of the Synod?) 3) You include no metagame description. 4) You come here not looking to enhance or contribute to the community, but merely to take information from the community.
Please understand your flaws, and change them.

This card is incredibly good. It's almost strictly better than Maze of Ith, especially considering it can tap for colored mana. It's a card that only affects attacking creature, but it's playable in Type 1. This should give some scale as to how good it would be anywhere else. This card is an almost immediate 4-of in Keeper, ESPECIALLY because it's colored. It's AMAZING vs Aggro, and will singly-handedly hold Tog back. I think this card would be more balanced as a Whipcorder variant (i.e: a creature of some sort).
