JP:  Here is a suggestion (if you hadn't already decided to do this):

After everyone chimes in with their own opinions of how decks fair, there will be a good sampling of the experiences from a variety of players with a variety of decks.

a simple talley can show the results.  Here is an example:

Belcher:

Unfavorable:
Fish/Gayr....: ^^^^^
Trinisphere..: ^^^
Hulk............: ^
EBA............: ^^
Dragon.......: ^

Neutral:
Fish/Gayr...: ^
Hulk..........: ^^^
Germbus...: ^^^^
TnT...........: ^^
Keeper......: ^^^
GAT..........: ^^^

Favorable:
Dragon......: ^^^^^
Sligh..........: ^^^^
FCG...........: ^^^^

Then, the combined experience of the responding TMDers can be used to determine what the field looks like:

"Overall, Belcher is the deck to play if you are in an area full of Sligh, Dragon, and FCG. You can expect to have a tough game against Control based decks (like Hulk, GermBus [or 4C-Control], GAT, and Keeper), but it's pretty even.  You can almost expect to lose against Fish or Gay/r, and will have a poor chance of succeeding against Workshop-based decks. Sideboard accordingly."

While this doesn't go into the "why" of each experience, it can certainly be a good start towards such a survey.

Also, if people posting to the thread will keep this in mind, then their experience is all that is important.  There need not be an argument between members over "who's right vs. who's wrong".

The UR/Gay/Homo Fish build that we have conconted and been testing runs 4 Lavamancers, 2 Razorin Hunters, and 3 Rootwater Thief main, among other disruptive things like Wasteland, Stifle, Force of Will, Daze, Null Rod.

I guess here we get into exactly what build people are using of both decks.  Razorfins and Thiefs wouldn't matter much in this area since people are playing Duress over Xantid Swarm in Dragon.  (Thief has to be too slow in any metagame doesnt it?  Cast on turn 2, use all your mana on turn 3 to remove what exactly?)  Stifle is very good in this matchup, but Fish has to be able to win their other matchups and cant afford to run more than 2 MD around here.  I guess this deck disparity isn't that surprising; Fish is intended to be very flexible deck that can be tuned against any metagame.

This brings up the point that very fine bits of tuning can make a large difference in result (think of adding 3xCoffin Purge to Tog SB to beat Rector Trix back in the day) and swing a matchup from unfavorable to favorable.

@Dave: Great idea, this should remove any disturbances for getting the data sample. Nice.

Belcher (this is a coincedence, it's the second deck I feel comfortable about my knowing the matchups):

Unfavorable:MAAYYYYYBEEE Germbus (if Null Rod SB) very close, not tested enough

Even: Tog, EnSlaver, WorkshopPrison, ShopSlaver (if Trinisphere SBed)

Favorable: All Aggro, Dragon (including Spoils), anything without Fows and/or Null Rods  (FoWs only are not enough)

Untested: Draw7 (probably even, they're similarly fast), GAT (most probably even to slightly favorable like Tog), ControlMadness (probably even if SB Null Rods, Logic is to slow), Gay/R (probably unfavorable due to MD Stifle + Null Rod and FoW)

This decks main problem is not having to many unfavorable matchups but instead it has to few good matchups with the other tier 1 decks with just about everything being even. A funny situation, similar to what once happened to Keeper. *G*

R/G Beatz
Favorable: Keeper, Landstill, Shop Slaver, Drain Slaver, Fish, EBA
Neutral: Tog, Madness
Unfavorable: All combo, FCG, TnT, GaT

Steve - are you serious about TnT being unfavorable for your R/G deck?  I'm assuming you mean the build with the 9 burn, cursed scrolls, grim lavamancers, and 5 maindeck artifact destruction, the one you used for Crazy Con 2??  I've found that deck is great against TnT (or vs older builds, no trinisphere).  I mean you've got 13 maindeck one card ways to kill juggernaut, 16 ways to kill welders, etc and with siding in Rack and Ruins and Artifact Mutation, it's brutal....

not that this is great right now, but I've found the exact opposite.

Recently, I've really struggled against the newer TnT decks.  If I don't get a hand heavy on land disruption, their plays will go unmolested.  Once their Sundering Titan hits, I'm in a bit of trouble.  I think my mana base needs a little reworking.  Also, my builds have been changing some recently from that strategy.  I'm putting it as unfavorable because I think Survival pushes TnT ahead there.  Maybe I'll do some testing with the newer builds.

My latest build absolutely WRECKS the regular builds of GaT.  Whoo.

Mon, I've found that my FoW Ravager build can go pretty even with Belcher (although I doubt my opponents had your skill).  I'm still trying to figure out how to optimize that list though.  If I have a breakthrough, I'll tell you.

Sorry if this looks like a double post, but Ultima is unable to post here with his Basic Account.  Since he has been kicking everyones butt with GAT, I am posting his current findings on this topic:

Quote

Ultima finds the following for GATr 04
Favorable-
Hulk
Keeper
GAT
Fish

Neutral-
Drain/Control Slaver
TNT
EBA

Unfavorable-
FCG
Trinistax
Workshop Slavery

Ultima and I differ slightly in our GATr builds, so he sees more trouble with Slavery decks than I do.  However, his build is stronger against EBA and Fish-builds (both of which I have trouble against).

[16:19] <jpmeyer> my thread is an overwhelming success
[16:20] <jpmeyer> it proves that everyone thinks that "their" deck is best
[16:20] <jpmeyer> and therefore that nobody's testing means anything
