Good article JP. The presence of big tourneys forces people to keep quiet about tech in general. I have noticed a large decline in posts from people on the big type 1 teams in the time leading up to the next SCG P9 tourney. I find it interesting that it's some of the same people who make TMD the best type 1 site who are keeping quiet for the sake of team secrecy. It's not that I don't understand or want to criticize--if you can win several hundred dollars by not sharing tech, then why should you? Well, I guess the answer could be that the so-called decline of TMD could in fact be due to the lack of posts by good players because they want to out-tech their opponents at the next big tourney. I'm not saying that the people who are posting aren't good players, but for the most part I have noticed that the "big name" players have been keeping very very quiet in some of the most tourney-relevant threads, with the exception of spam-removal, etc. I'm not making value judgements here, I just wanted to point out that some of the same people who complain that the level of post quality on TMD has decreased are the same quiet people who made/make TMD great.
But back on topic--I didn't pick up on whether you think having type 1 be a PTQ format is a good or bad thing. If it allows a coherent metagame to evolve constantly and allows people to share more tech, then it's a good thing. Way to go to all the TO's who have provided all the great tourneys this summer and fall.

I have two questions regarding the Tog list you posted:
1) What made you abandon the maindeck Deep Analysis?
2) With so many silver bullets for Tog standards (Ground Seal, Back to Basics, to a lesser extent Pernicious Deed) maybe Vampiric Tutor has a place in the maindeck. Or would it be enough to have it as a wish target?

This even I can answer. He cut them because he doesn't expect to face the mirror.

I believe he's referring to the Vampiric tutor - not the Deep Analysis. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course.
Also, fetching said bullets (Ground Seal, Pernicious Deed, B2B...etc.) occurs less frequently (at least for me) than fetching the various draw / powerful spells that normally serve to either win the game, or draw what Vampiric Tutor would fetch up anyways.
Also, in my opinion, Vampiric Tutor felt like a last resort for a desperate situation - pulling out the Deed when faced with a disgusting amount of opposing weenies/fishies, etc. - which rarely occurs when 'tog is piloted by a more skilled player.
And the chances for the mirror do seem less likely, despite fish's decline.

http://www.thehardlessons.com/I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!
