Most EVERY card has a big benefit from being in your opening hand. That's what makes them good cards. Certainly Lotus, or LoA or FoW would be better. Just because the Leylines are ONLY good in your opening hand, doesn't mean they're going to make cheating more tempting.
This is actually one of the worst ways to cheat, because it's possible to prove it by a deckcheck. Manaweaving or palming cards is much harder to prove without a camera.
Amen. Palming Cards is actually the hardest of everything to check, because even with a camera, it's hard to tell, and it's certainly the most effiecent way to cheat.
You can always get caught playing Ubastax, and revealing 5 mana drains, or (even stupider) a second copy of a restricted bomb.
You virtually cannot, however, catch someone who palms a black lotus in their sleeve. It's an amazing talent, but it shouldn't be used to cheat. I know a bunch of people who can palm cards, and we're always sure to shuffle for them on Poker night.

Doing a random count of cards is good too, because it's quick and doesn't require the hassle of a deckcheck.
