Sigh. I already sent Ted Knutson an email to get my decklist fixed.

Kind of anoying that he refered to my deck as EBA a few times, but whatever, I don't care too much...

Knutson's article is up, and so far, its pretty good (and quite well-informed for the most part).  Link to Vintage: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/vintage06/welcome

I personally liked this quote from kahnute

Quote
Cohen made the trip to Gen Con all the way from Italy and was rewarded with a Top 8 appearance for his intriguing Gifts Control variation. While it features the traditional Tinker-into-Darksteel Colossus kill, Cohen's deck can also deliver a kill via Tendrils of Agony and uses Dark Confidant as a card-drawing engine, while attacking with him to make his combo kill a bit easier. This is a clever bit of deckbuilding here and it will be interesting to see if it gains widespread acceptance in the community.

Why do you ask did I like this? Well because this "clever bit of deckbuilding" has been around for ever and a day, at least here in California, I think I (and the NorCal community) were even already calling it "dark gifts" for lack of a better name for it...in fact it has been out long enough to warrent its eventual fading from our meta and hasnt been played for some time as most of those players have "moved on" to something better (namely even more combo-ish versions of the deck based off TT Confidant sort of builds) and now to decks which hose said combo decks.

Maybe we will move back in that direction now, heh. Great sluethery (spelling?) Knut.

These were really great. Thank you Ted!

I did think it was funny that he called the Legacy forums here "The Mana Leak."

not bad, but there's some interesting errors like the Stax list that's listed under the heading EBA.  Still as usual Knut turns in a fun article about a good tournament.

Good coverage overall. Much better then last year.

I did notice the error with Vromans list being listed twice, and the EBA list in wrong area I think.

He did a good job of capturing the overall possitive mood of the event, but I wish he spent the time to cover a little more then storm decks. He focused a little to much on tendrils combos (though probably rightfully deserved) I feel it left some of the other decks well represented feel a little bit underrepresented.

The lack of fish overall was again due to a gencon field that is a metagame as strange as Waterbury. People always talk about budget decks at gencon, but thats rarely the case. SS was underrepresented. Oath was underplayed (accept for Carps). Combo was played in big #'s, and nobody wanted to trust CS, and not that many stax players ran good lists (though I liked Vromans/Rolands/Brouers).

Overall good coverage. Though it might misrepresent the metagame. Though w/coldsnap its already changed. AND will be VASTLY different when Time Spiral comes out from the cards that I have seen previewed.

I really enjoyed reading this article. I also liked to see all the faces of the players in the top 8, that was really cool. Who knew Vroman looked like such a badass?!

I like how he made a HUGE deal about combo coming out in force.  That was the number 1 thing learned at gencon and I love how he emphasized it so much.

I read through both of those articles (Vintage and Legacy) and they both equally impressed me.  His masterful writing is something I aspire to one day achieve.  I'll settle for winning tournaments in the meantime  Wink

Great Job Ted!  I'd like to state for the record that I enjoyed this year's Vintage article over last year's.  At least I don't sound like a play-error-making newb in either article this year.

I didn't really like that very much, but I thought Ted did a fantastic job both with the coverage and the general writing of the articles.   It's really an entertaining read.

Although combo better not get restricted or there will be hell to pay Very Happy

I would be very disappointed if combo was in any way neutered.  I believe that the metagame is excellent right now.  Drains, Shops, Rituals, and fish T8'ed.  If that isn't a diverse enough T8, then what is?

Amen to that, sir.  T1 right now is a beautiful thing.  If they print some cards to make one more deck viable, it might be nice, but how it is is just great.

I liked Ted's article. You can't really nitpick EVERY SENTANCE because he did the best he could with the time alloted and he's an outsider to this format so you shouldn't expect him to know all the in's and out's of the history and tech. So it's just dumb to fault him on stuff like that. Good Job Ted.

It was a good read, exactly what this type of article should be.

I would have liked more pictures of cards, but I guess we have the pimp thread for that. Smile
