Ranging Mongoose
1G
Creature - Mongoose

Protection from white.

Creaturecycling 1G (1G, Discard this card: Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.)

If Ranging Mongoose is in your graveyard, and another creature is put into your graveyard from play, you may pay GG.  If you do, return Ranging Mongoose from your graveyard to your hand.

Overpowered, or no?  Green needs more card advantage and flexible utility.

"Creaturecycling" is based on Survival of the Fittest and Worldly Tutor, two very green flavors.

The graveyard ability is a bit of a stretch, since black [more than green] covers graveyard recur, but with one important exception - Genesis.

I thought about changing the activated ability's mana cost from "GG" to "1B and pay 2 life", which adds an interesting twist, but changes the flavor.  That also introduces other potentially abusive black graveyard/discard combinations, which is why I like mono green the most.

Lastly, I know that mongeese are normally pro-blue or untargettable, but I thought that untargettable might be too strong, and pro-white is just more interesting (particularly vs StP).  Plus, "ranging" might suggest that the mongoose is learning to adapt to other environments. Wink

Current wording:

Ranging Mongoose
1G
Creature - Mongoose

Creaturecycling 2G (2G, Discard this card: Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.)

If Ranging Mongoose is in your graveyard, and another creature is put into your graveyard from play, you may pay GG.  If you do, return Ranging Mongoose from your graveyard to your hand.

This is WAY too good. Compare Time of Need, a card that actually saw play. The tutor ability should  be more expensive AND put the carrd on top of your library or something like that (or make it a "pitch" effect, like "Creaturecycling 1G (You may pay 1G, discard this card and remove a green card from your hand to tutor for a creature)."

If the creaturecycling mechanic is too powerful, then maybe:

Sacrifice Ranging Mongoose, discard a green card: Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

or

Sacrifice Ranging Mongoose, target opponent gains 4 life: Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

I like the first one of those, it makes the card much fairer.

what about ;" search for a creature withthe same converted mana cost "

Yes,Tarmogoyf is probably better than Chameleon Colossus, but comparing it to Tarmogoyf is like comparing your girlfriend to Carmen Electra - one's versatile and reliable, the other's just big and cheap.(And you'd run both if you could get away with)

There could actually be a cycle of green cards like that (one that costs G, searches for mana cost 1, and so forth).

Another option could be:

"Creaturecycling 1GX- Search your library for a creature with converted mana cost equal to or less than 2 plus X."

OR:

"Creaturecycling 1G- In addition to this cost target opponent gains any amount of life. Search your library for a creature with converted mana cost equal to or less than 2 plus the amount of life gained by that opponent."

I smell a combo with False cure. Wink
