about 29ish people showed up and it seemed that EVERYONE had a blast!
www.eudemonia.com/p9 will have lists, pics and feature match coverage (including yours truly getting pounded by Monoblue Control with Rune Snags, so be sure to check, that out.

If it wasn't clear, Web beat Sam/Icnorid and Jeff H beat Christiaan. (I am Jeff N).

Door prizes were shitty unwanted Unhinged cards, or cards from cardgames not called Magic: The Gathering.  Behind them (in their sleeve) were cool cards like Expirate.  April Fool's, huh?  I didn't know about the hidden cards until round 5 or so.  The joke was on me.

TOP 8!
In no particular order:

David Ochoa (Webster) Ritual Gifts.pwn
Jeff Huang U/W Fish.hate
Junior piloting The GIlded Claw Jr. (er, some shop aggro staxless stax thing.  It's his first top 8 in Vintage.  He's 13.
Jenkins Mitchell Gifts.pwn
Christiaan Royer with UBW BobGruntIsamaruMeddlingMage.H ate.tempo.pwn.
Sam Shermer with Serum Powder Ichoridredge.netdeck
Brett Allen with UWB BobGruntIsamaruMeddglingMage. hate
Nick Weed with Stubborn Belcher (not a damn card change in 2 years except SB Expirate.

More to come!!!

Christiaan vs Jeff H. Fish on Fish: They deserve each other.

Ochoa vs Sam. Gifts vs Ichorid. EOT Mystical for Dark Ritual, I wonder what Web has in his hand??? I wonder who won game 1? ( actually don't know, unless Web gives report!)

Christiaan resolve Bob through Chalice for two by Stifling Chalice trigger!  Junior dies, but is still hot for top 8ing with his own random Shop deck (with ONLY 3 Proxy Shops and 1 borrowed Ancient Tomb.  The kid even traded for In The Eye of Chaos x2! I don't even have one of those.

Darryl, who not only resolved a Loxodon Hierarch verses Web later, plays on a Yu-Gay-Oh mat that makes him seem like he has more board presence than he has.  His deck was a Meddling Mage, Eternal Witness, Ophidian deck, written up by Austin (Team Vacaville) the night before, and hurredly assemebled in the 45 minute drive to the tourney. (all the cards were with me, and had to be "found" amonkst all the crap I drag around with me.  An SB Salvager was tossed in there by looking through my Crap Binder and Darryl beat 2 opponents (one Grim Long). Whoot!

This was game 3.  Marco lost the die roll to Mana Crypt (why they call it a DIE roll every turn is anyone's guess) SIX TURNS IN A ROW!!!
He won 7th roll on turn 4 of extra turns.   Like I said, good times.

Jeff Huang can see more of himself.  He won semi-mirror match by resolving and swinging with Jitte.

Nick vs Sam. Belcher vs Ichorid.  This is turn 2.  Frikkin Turn 2.  Both players have like 13ish cards left in deck. (Nick's was due to Demonic Consultation for Lotus, Sam's for playing with Serum Powder and such.
Type II seems to be in slow motion for me, as that was at least 10 minutes into the game.

This is my friend Sarah.  She wasn't there, but it was on my Photobucket thingy, and she likes it when geeks think she is hot. (she once collected Star Trek and Xena type "action figures" cuz "fanboys" like them.

My mini-report: 9th missing top 8 again (basically).  I pilot The Gilded Claw, unchanged from last month.

Round 1: Keven with Stax.
Game 1 win the die roll and drop Shop, MCrypt, Gilded Lotus, Welderx2.
He plays city.
I play Jester's cap, cap 3 big threats, and ancestral myself (and play stuff).
He does something, probably tutor.
I cap him, play stuff, and weld stuff, capping him again.  He punches me in the face and calls me a fat bastar...i mean simply scoops.  He inquires as to whether or not, after capping, he can kinda look through his deck before shuffling it.  Apparently, the answer is no.
Game 2 I don't remember.  Ah yes, now I do.  He draws lands for like 9 turns. I win.

Round 2: Austin (13 year old on Team Vacaville) with Oath of Noobs.
We play game 1: I stomp him into the ground.  He conceeds after 4th Memory Jar (Chalice for 2 was already on the field).
He offers the draw, I accept.  (is this is correct in 5 rounds of Swiss during round 2, 29ish players, and we are both winning/confident?)

Round 3: Christiaan Royer (Zalhfirin) with UWB Fish.
Game 1 I win die roll (or not), but turn 1 Welder resolves.
He busts out with a Meddling Mage naming something, and a few turns later, another Meddling Mage naming something else, and I proceed to get kicked in the nuts for 2 or 4 each turn, and like it.

Eventually, I get to discard Duplicant (I had a Trinisphere to his 5/6 land in play.

I chump a Mage with Dupe and the other gets Duped.

I discard Crucible eventually, and start stripping.

Eventually, I have Welder, Trinisphere Crucible in play, Dupe in yard and Christiaan at just 4 lands.

He scoops (possiple just slightly before he needed to, but I was still in shock that the Welder lived this long.

He drew a LOT of nothing, apparently.

Game 2: He mulls to 1st turn Bob.

I topdeck Tolarian Academy, increasing my already broken hand by about 500%.

Time Walk, Tinker for Trike.

At some point, I stole his Meddling Mage with my Memnarch on same turn I dumped a Juggernaut onto the field.  Sometimes The Claw gives you these busted hands.  Christiaan extends his hand. Go No First Turn Force! x2!

Turn 4, I am faced by Jenkins Mitchell (it may POSSIBLY be Jenkins, Mitchell, but I dunno).

I didn't scout him.  I kept Waste/Shop/Factory/RMasticore/UselessBlueCrap against an unknown opponent.

He played island go.

This happedn for 3 turns.  One of those turns may have included a fetch., and I now had Gilded Lotus in hand.

Rmasticore or GLotus?  which will he counter?  If he plays Drain, I am a DEAD MAN!

I bait GLotus because I suck.

He drains it but fails to kill me after Mainphase Gifts.

When he Gifts a few turns later, I tell him that if he CAN"T kill me, or doesn't, then he is the worst Gifts Player Ever.

He kills me.

Game 2: Ditto.  My Ghostly Prisons didn't show up to hose his ETW tokens.  My Leyline of the Void did nothing as he drew no tutors, just Chain of Vapors, ETW, moxen.  I faced 14 dudes.

I am 2-1-1 and with 7 points, I have to play round 7 and there are 2 other players with 7 points. (the rest are 9 and up and safely draw in).

Round 5: Zac Carlow Mono-U Control (with Morphlings and everything (and Rune Snag)

Game 1, he has double FoW backup to my turn 1/2 major threats.  He resolves Ophidian, and 3/4 turns later I scoop. (I know the drill.)

Game 2, I get busted hand with Shop Lotus 2 Spheres Ancestral, maybe even Crucibile or Welder.
I play Lotus, Shop, Sphere, ANcestral, and burn for 2.

Maybe I get Jugg later, but I play 2nd sphere and Welder at some point, and do that Trike/Jugg thing till he pics up his cards.

Game 3: Either this game, or 2nd game, he got double force of will in top 8 cards.  The other game he just got regular force of will.  This game, Back to Basics, a  lack of new mana by me, and then Energy Flux caused me to scoop.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
My opponent could NOT ever EVER make top 8 with his 6 points he had starting this round.  I had 7 points and would make top 8 if I won, or if he scooped.  I had no idea that he had only 6 points, and was out of contention.

When the top 8 was announced and he was not in it, I was shocked.  He wasn't (he knew he had "a chance" and was 3-2 after 5 rounds of swiss.  If he knew he had no chance, and that I did, he would have conceeded to me.  I know, because I asked him.  I found out that the other 7 pointers were Austin and someone else I had already played against.  ZaC got paired UP against me. He was not a dick, and had no reason to try to screw me out of Top 8 if I was "able" and he was "not able" to make top 8.  Neither of us knew.  I only need to learn this lesson once.

Props: Everyone! Especially for Jr who T8's. Fuck them MoFo's!
Slops: Lunar Pyromasta, Vegetta2718 for not showing up!

Future lists will be edited into this post, mini-reports by all players WELCOME and WANTED!

NEW FEATURE!!! Insane Plays! requested by someone, but not nearly as awesome as previous 20 second interviews. (I did not have the guts to approach Web for 20 second interview. Luis: successful, cus he is a very accomodating guy.  Web: not neccessarily non-accomodating or even willing, just someone I am scared shitless out of... YouTube extracts coming soon.  Full Disclosure: I randomly won first 6 or so matches against Web, not because I am better, but I was luckier, or was doing something like Oath vs Slaver (even If I was playing Oath Salvagers at the time)., or just randomly winning with "The Claw".  he haw won last 3ish matches with his Vintage Know How and awesome pwninesssome.  Why his is not TMD full user, I will never know.  He won't ever spam nothing.  He speaks if he has something to say, and he only says what he means to say.

Scary.

He never diissed Salvagers, even in the early stages.  (think Pre-Bomberman).  He just took his 4 games of 2 matches as hard kicks to the nuts (or lucky die rolls on my part) in stride.

I been playing Shops since then.

Fun.

er... Some Insane plays.  Not as interesting as you might think, unless you were there (then being absolutely fascinating), but Insane Plays YouTube-Ized done by reqest....

This stuff is much more interesting in person, as one kinda knows what has happend recently.

I had a great Charbelcher moment, but it was bigger than youtube allows (maybe I can edit it down.... 100megs...sigh.)

Final result of the tourney: Web scooped in the finals to me.  For "technicality,"U/W fish just won a tourney

Top 8:
Jeff H./jeffthefob (u/w fish) vs. Jenkins Mitchell (Gifts /w Drain, but no Mis-D)
David Ochoa/Webster (Ritual Gifts) vs. Brett Allen (U/W/B Fish)
Christiaan Royer/Zhalfirin (U/W/B Fish) vs. "Junior" ("Gilded Claw Jr.")
Sam Sherman (Ichorid) vs. Nick Weed (Belcher)

Result of Top 8:
Jeff beats Jenkins. (2-0)
David beats Brett (I think it was 2-0, but Web can confirm this later)
Christiaan beats "Junior" (2-1?)
Sam beats Nick (2-1?)

Top 4:
Jeff H./jeffthefob (u/w fish) vs. Christiaan Royer/Zhalfirin (U/W/B Fish)
David Ochoa/Webster (Ritual Gifts) vs. Sam Sherman (Ichorid)

Results of Top 4:
Jeff beats Christiaan (2-0)
David beats Sam (2-1) -- Very close match I might even add.

Top 2:
Er... screw the format.. Jeff vs. Web, and Web scooped to me.

A report should be up in the next 24-ish hours after I finish my classes today Sad But it will be the u/w fish forums ^^, I will just do some linking.

Lotushead: Thanks a lot with all these pictures.  Actually, the first picture with me where I had grunts /w jitte was embarassing, because it remind me of a mistake that could had cost me the game ^^" *awkward*

Kind of sucks that Zac didn't scoop to you, but from what you told me in the tourney I thought you didn't check the standings.  So maybe check the standings next time and things might turn out better? (no offense, just a suggestion) I know there was infinite draws (okay, like TWO) during round 2, so that actually screwed up the pairings a little bit.  Also, sometimes the person who got paired up (Zac in this case) might not want to concede...

Couple reasons:
1. He came here to play magic.  Zac is from Tahoe, which is like.. 4 hours away? So it is perfectly logical he is here to play and have fun with his friends and magic.
2. He may be playing to "knock" you off top 8 contention.  Say if I was in Zac's position, I probably would had played because I want to get Web and Eirik in, they were both 3-1 going in. (sorry! but if Web and Eirik weren't in t8 contention, I would scoop Wink)
3. Sort of an extention of the first reason... sometimes certain people just won't scoop, it can be they're clueless or just jackass >_< No reason for them to scoop.

So yeah.  Sometimes life is tough Sad But I am sure you going to top 8 in the near future though with finishes like this Smile Again, these pictures were great; thanks a lot to you these tourneys were more interesting.

My dad had rotator cuff surgery, so I was mostly hanging around helping him @ home with stuff. Plus Albert wasn't going so it was like, I'd have to drive to Berkley myself, which god knows is one of the worst places to drive into ever. Oh and not have a deck, that'd of been pimp.

Grats on doing well again Jeff.

Yeah, so uh, I was at home.  Eating.  Sorry I couldn't make it, but hey, at least I got fed.

Oh, and that video is a lot of Web fetching lands and casting Brainstorm.  Not really all that interesting.

Great report and pics as usual, LotusHead.

Here's the insane play you needed to video.  In the last extra turn, a Grim Long player goes for it.  He casts out all his Rituals, and plays Windfall.  He has seven black mana floating and he is at seven life.  The Windfall is for two cards.  With two Undergound Seas and seven black mana he draws: Wheel of Fortune.  No good.  And then, the case card: Bloodstained Mire!  Except... he accidentally boarded out his Badlands and just forgot to pull the Wheel as well.

Here's my mini-report.  I played UWB fish, finishing in T8 (Brett Allen).  I’d post the list but I’m sure they’ll be edited in above before too long.  Basically it’s like arik124’s recent T8 decks, but with Brainstorms, because damn, they’re like extra Ancestrals.  You can’t cut that.

Round 1 vs Richard: I lead out with land, two Moxes, and Confidant.  On his turn I Stifle his Polluted Delta and he passes the turn.  Seems good to be up three mana to none with Bob in play.  Next turn I run out a Meddling Mage naming Yawgmoth’s Will.  Several turns later I find out he’s also playing UWB fish.  Ah well, better safe than sorry.  Bob advantage takes it home in any case.  Second game I play creatures while he messes around with Repeals and Remands.  Eventually, one of my creatures picks up a Jitte and he still hasn’t drawn any dudes.  It’s over fast.

1-0

Round 2 vs Jenkins: He’s playing Gifts.  I think game 1 I cut down his mana with Null Rod and applied Jotun Grunt beats.  Game 2 he comes out with a very fast Empty the Warrens for 12 tokens.  I can’t find any of my Echoing spells (I have 2 Truth and 1 Decay after board) and lose.  Game 3 goes very long.  I have two Null Rods and a Rule of Law in play.  At one point I Duress him and he has three Mana Drains, 2 Force of Will, a Merchant Scroll and a Demonic Tutor.  I play a couple of threats and he mana burns down to 2 after draining them.  As we go into extra turns I have to play it safe and not cast anything.  Just before his last turn he fires off his last bounce spell at my Rule of Law, but I have a Force of Will and that’s that.  I’m pretty sure I had inevitability after that, but oh well.

1-0-1

Round 3 vs Austin: Austin is playing Oath, not a good matchup for me but not unwinnable.  In round 1, Austin played against my ride (also playing fish), leading to a bus ride in my future.  Must have revenge!  Game 1 he mulligans and starts off slow.  I get some guys, out, including a key Meddling Mage on Oath of Druids, but he can hold them off with a Mishra’s Factory until I draw a Wasteland.  Soon after, he Repeals my Mage and lays down the Oath.  I’m not worried because I can play Echoing Truth and replay the Mage, but then my Confidant reveals Time Walk which wins immediately as I have Grunt and Isamaru also in play.

Game 2 is weird as we’re both stuck on mana for a bit.  For some reason he doesn’t Strip Mine my Swamp which was my only land in play for several turns.  Eventually I can play out some guys and attack.  He Remands my Seal of Cleansing, and then on his turn Brainstorms into Oath and it hits the table.  But I draw Daze and so my Seal can come down through his Force of Will.  He had some bad draws, often getting his Oath creatures, so I was lucky there.

2-0-1

Round 4 vs Web: Uh oh, the unstoppable juggernaut of the Eudemonia tournaments.  Web is with his usual Ritual Gifts-style deck.  Game 1 is another weird one as I run out something crazy like turn 1 Lotus, Ancestral, Brainstorm, sac land, Dark Confidant.  And yet almost nine turns go by without me finding a white source.  In fact my only other mana is a Mox and a Wasteland that is promptly sacrificed.  Things get a little tight, but on Web’s second-last turn to live I drop the Null Rod to make sure that he can’t get enough mana to go off and Bob swings to victory.  Game 2 he Massacres my early Bob, but then double Jotun Grunt arrive to clean up while his lands are Stifled and Wastelanded.

3-0-1

Round 5 vs Jeff: ID

3-0-2

Top 8 vs Web: A rematch!  Sadly, I might have had game 1 if not for this misplay: I run out a turn 2 Meddling Mage off a Lotus, planning to name Force of Will to get my Ancestral through.  He Forces the Mage and I cast Ancestral in response, seeing a Force of my own.  He doesn’t have a lot of cards left, but I get greedy and I Force his Force to resolve my Mage.  Well that was wrong, and to top it off, for some reason I name Empty the Warrens.  When I'm holding two Stifles, I should have just named Yawgmoth's Will, or maybe Dark Ritual.  As it turns out, his last couple of cards are rituals and Yawmoth’s Bargain.  This gives him plenty of cards to Duress away my Stifles and go off.  He did draw down to 3 life before winning, so maybe naming Will would have done it.  Forcing the Bargain definitely would have.

In game 2 my hand was just very lackluster.  I kept it on the strength of Null Rod, which gets Duressed away turn 1.  I’m almost in it, but he take away my chance to topdeck with this tight play: drop a land, tap out for Gifts Ungiven finding Will, Lotus, Chain of Vapor, and Dark Ritual.  He has two cards and I suspect one is Tendrils from an earlier Duress.  He’s already played a land, and his Sapphire and Jet are in play, so giving him Chain and Ritual seems safest. He reveals his other card in hand to be Lotus Petal, which lets him Chain his two Moxes and get the four mana for Tendrils.  I guess if I’d figured out the Petal I could have given him Will and Chain, but then I probably would have lost the next turn unless my Bob mised savagely…

All in all another well-run event from Eudemonia.  I got one of the gag door prizes of a “Rogue” from… I dunno, some card game that’s not Magic.  But also in the card sleeve were some alpha REBs… very nice.

Lists are up in original post.  Props to Eudemonia for kicking them out so quick.

Be sure to check out www.eudemonia.com/p9 for feature match coverage and more pics.

Someone posted this on my Myspace page.  Web destroyed me 2-0 during this match, but it was from last year.

Any guesses? I haven't dealt with Ichorid since Smmemen's original list.

I copy and pasted from Eudo's site.  I'll look into it.

@PoliceHQ: I DO remember Urza's Bauble! Thanks. List modified.

Urza's Bauble.

EDIT: Just to let you know, this was an educated guess. Did you verify it?

Eudemonia's feature matches are now up.

www.eudemonia.com/p9 for a quick link for those of you who already read the thread and wondered what this bump was about. Smile

From my Mini-report.

Quote
Round 2: Austin (13 year old on Team Vacaville) with Oath of Noobs.
We play game 1: I stomp him into the ground.  He conceeds after 4th Memory Jar (Chalice for 2 was already on the field).
He offers the draw, I accept.  (is this is correct in 5 rounds of Swiss during round 2, 29ish players, and we are both winning/confident?)

Not understanding point structure to the fullest cost me top 8.  (regardless of the decision to draw against teammate in round 2.  For 2nd time in 2 tournies...)

Was this decision correct for 29 person tourney?

Well, I did see Web get the business end of both baubles during top 4, so that's as much conformation as I have.  I inquired at Euddemoniao Site, but lists dies when tourney is over (usually).

Aardshark supplied deck to Sam, maybe he can verify it.

Rough one on giving me slops, there are numerous reasons i couldnt attend, i mean hell..i havnt gone in like a year and all of a sudden I get a slop...ah well, such is life I guess.

I promise to come to at least one this year...maybe if jorlove gets his act together and decides to come to one, ill try and hit up the same one. It will be a tough one though as I have played exactly 0 games of t1 magic in about a year now, and about 3 total games of any magic period (the 3 being 5color matches with an astounding record of 2-1 playing dragon)

Quote
Marco lost the die roll to Mana Crypt (why they call it a DIE roll every turn is anyone's guess) SIX TURNS IN A ROW!!!
He won 7th roll on turn 4 of extra turns.

I seem to remember myself losing a game on turn 3 of extra turns, which also happend to be turn 7 of the 3rd game with my opponent (playing control slaver) completely locked out to my CronStax list to this exact same occurance. A draw would have seen me go 4-1-1 and into top 8 but the loss on turn 3 to my own crypt saw me to 4-2 and into 9th or 10th place instead ftl. But playing first turn crypt into turn 7 loss solely from crypt damage (tails 7 times in a row...go figure) is bad juju.

As for the video stuff...what it really comes down to is getting an actual video type camera I think you should be able to get a lot more than 20 seconds that way even with you tube trying to limit you (i mean, people have hour+ long videos on youtube of concerts and such, i dont see why they couldnt get a match or parts of matches on there. Maybe, just maybe if I show up to one I can bring a real digital video camera..but no promises.
