You can find the original announcement here.  At my 9th event, 26 of New England's strongest players faced each other in 5 rounds of swiss, with the 5th round deciding the final two slots of the Top 8.  This event saw familiar faces continuing to master their decks, while newcomers tried to made an impact using newer decks.  Though the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday took a small bite out of attendance, it did nothing to diminish the excitement and competition.  Thank you to everyone who showed - the newcomers, those who traveled, and those who have supported me consistently.  It's that kind of effort that makes New England the best place in the world for Vintage.

With 26 players, I was 4 players shy of the original support.  After assessing the situation, I decided to stick with the original prizes.  This was 90% because I was able to buy and sell a good volume of cards.  The other 10% was a mix of not having a plan for where to remove the prize support from and being too busy to figure it out.  Thank you to everyone who brought cards to sell.

The Top 4 Prizes

Split for 1st Nick Rodrigues - GAT shown with game winning play of Merchant Scroll for Hyrdroblast

Split for 1st Daniel "Gaagooch" Gacioch - TPS shown with his prized ELD Proxies

3rd Scott Blumenthal - Mono Red Workshop Aggro chooses Foil Tarmogoyf

4th Rich Meyst - Mono Red Workshop Aggro choses Foil Tinker + Foil Platinum Angel

5th-8th got to chose from such goodness any Dual Land, Force of Will, Foil Gush, or 2x the normal prizes of Vintage goodness

5th Ryan Marek - GAT chooses Underground Sea

6th Jeremiah Rudolph - Workshop Affinity chooses Foil Saga Duress and Foil FNM Duress

7th Louis Gentile - Mono Blue chooses Tropical Island

8th Craig Dupre - GAT chooses

It would appear that I only gave out 25 of the 50 Bazaar proxies.  This means someone didn't go home with one.  If anyone didn't get their Bazaar Proxy, please let me know.

Guys cmon now it is clear that the only reason Workshop did well at this tourney was cuz everyone is sick of playing GAT.
Yai for broken and unhealthy formats!
(Is that Affinity and Mono blue in the top 8 too? More people disenchanted with GAT!)

Yeah I know where do people come up with this whole 'gush based decks are clearly the best archtype stance.'
Only 4 top 8'd in this tourney with one splitting in finals.
I mean if the entire top 8 were gush based then maybe you could make a case... but it was only half this time so everything's fine.

On a serious note the tourney was fun.  I scrubbed hard with the goblins losing to 2 artifact based decks despite grudge/tinstreet/shattering sprees running wild post board... oh well :p

Thanks to Eric for holding it.  Prizes looked good too despite him not getting the number he was looking for.

Tournament was great, Eric always hosts a good time for everyone.  Proxies look insane as usual, very nice work sir.  Congrats to everyone who made top 8 and such.  Can't wait for the next tournament, although i wish the proxy was timetwister...

Way to hit YawgWill on that desperation Mind's Desire in game 1 of our top 4 match and crush my Mox dreams. Words can't describe how awesome it would have been to win a mox in my first vintage tourney ever, after playing the format for about 3 weeks. O well. The tourney was great, congrats to my fellow Top 8 guys. Go Mono Red Shop Aggro!

Yea that was pretty much the luckiest thing that happened to me all day.  Even drawing the desire on my last turn was lucky.  It was a great match and you did very well for your first vintage tournament.  A foil goyf isnt too shabby...

That was a fantastic rip.  Mind's Desire for for 3 is infinitely better than Ancestral, and any time it's a better rip than Ancestral, you're doing ok.

Resolved.  It's amazing that I messed that up, as it was card for card the deck I've been playing for months.  Very Happy

Thank you.  They were so much work, I can't even figure it out.  I'd guess well over 60 hours were spent on these proxies, and I still have about 4 hours left of outline work to finish the remaining 24 proxies.  At times I felt like I was over doing them, but overall I'm very happy with the end result.

I can't wait to see how the trading goes on them.  I saw one player managed to pick up a playset before the close of the tournament.  I sell/trade for proxies at $15 and they tend to be amongst the most popular choices from 5th-8th.

On a proxy related note, I've been looking back at my older work.  The Mox Rubies were the first Mox, and subsequent Moxes look quite different to me.  I'm offering to retouch them at my future events.  Doing the Gold completely in the Gold Marker, and then outlining in Black would make the set more uniform.

I didn't want to play out the top 4 because I had people waiting on me but I'm glad we did. I really like ELD's build of gat. I felt like I could get out of any situation all day. I wouldn't change anything except maybe the crypt for a ponder but I'm happy with it. The tournament was great as it always is. Marek and Rich gave me hell in the top 8 so the decision making was very difficult. I'm glad I could pull one out as I haven't won a power tourney since I returned to magic about 6 months ago. I was very very rusty but the rust seems to be gone now.
