Did this thread just got Yankee-jacked?! C'mon guys, I know we dutch(jacked) a lot of threads in our days but this is ridiculous... Wink

Also, there's no place like Holland for Stroop waffels, Yangtime, Twaun, Detwiler, I expect a visit from you guys in the near future to stock up!!

I'm going to have to agree.  It's nice to have a larger sized stroopwaffel, but there's something missing.  Both the mini sized ones from Trader Joe's and the normal sized ones from World Market seem to be missing that little bit of Dutch magic.

Copies are never as good as the originals.... I can put you down for a trip + showing you around the country soon then? Wink

96. You get used to never be soccer world champion  Twisted Evil

Btw a funny thing about the Netherlands is that you don't get one or two Euro Cents change back in supermarkets or whereever. Say you bought something that costs 99 cents and give one Euro, they just don't give you the one cent back. Is that common in the Netherlands? At least it was where I was a few years ago (Zeeland).
In Germany you always get your Cent. People would be upset if this cent was held back.

They'll give you back one/two eurocents change at Aldi [German chain of supermarkets iirc] but stores like Super de Boer and Albert Heijn won't do this.. They'll round up the amount there.. I think that's because it's really annoying when there's someone counting out like.. 76 cents in 1/2/5 eurocent coins.

It just takes some getting used to, I guess
Actually they just round the amount, not round it up. So for instance, if you buy something that costs 97 cents, you only have to pay 95 cents if you pay in cash, but if it were 98 cents it would cost you 1 euro. If you pay with your PIN-card, you do have to pay the orignal amount though. I thinks it's good, those little coins only clog up your wallet and nobody really wants them.

I love how are biggest motivational factor in traveling to Europe revolves around the lure of stroopwaffel.

@Duncan,
I agree, hate those little coins... I must say, when I was in the US, those guys do like them one dollar bills... shit, buying something in a store and seeing a clerk count down change for a 20 in multiple one dollar bills + coins was annoying....

@Twaun007,
Few can resist the draw of Stroopwafels (Ask Detwiler, he ate 2 packages when I was there I think).... also, hanging out with cool dutchies should also be a factor Wink

I love how you guys are considering to travel the world for stroopwafels, while I frequently am disappointed when I look for something to eat and I see nothing else but them Wink

Get them at the markets though. The ones in Albert Heijn don't taste as good.
