So, been to three tourneys with Workshops, walked away with a t2 split(lost irrelevant finals match), a t4 split(didn't play it out) and now a definitive win. All three of these events were relatively small events, but I think the results are beginning to add up. I've only lost 3 matches total in all of those tournaments, one of which I punted two games vs. Brassman. This deck is a complete house right now.
Round 1: Eric K with Dredge Game 1: I would have aggressively mulliganed into a strip effect, but I get 3 wastelands in opening hand and keep. He keeps and starts with bazaar, it gets wasted, he plays another bazaar turn 2, I have to waste it again, but at this point things are already clicking after two bazaar activations. I haven't been able to drop a sphere effect due to needing to waste his lands and he has the just enough guys to dread return his sphinx of lost truths, things go downhill from here as he kills me with a number of zombie tokens.
Game 2: He has a 14 card sideboard and gets a game loss.
Game 3: I get a strip effect in opener and hit his bazaar, doesn't have another bazaar to follow up with and I lock him out with sphere effects and remove his graveyard with Bujoka Bog. This one is not close.
Games 2-1 Matches 1-0
Round 2: Mason with Oath Game 1: He gets the nuts Oath draw, I can't deal.
Game 2: This game was really interesting, drops a turn 1 energry flux off a mana crypt and eventually sets up Oath and gets a Darksteel Colossus that he can't pay for and gets shuffled back in on his next upkeep and then he gets Iona. Pretty much had me with Iona, but felt he needed an additional threat to play around a duplicant that he doesn't know that I do not run. He has 2 monsters left in the deck, they turn out to be the last two cards in his deck. If he hit the darksteel again he would have had me, but he hits a 9/9 that I can block with spirit tokens instead. He can't get enough damage in and decks himself. Pretty lucky, I needed him to Oath, then have the two creatures be the last two cards in the deck in that order.
Game 3: This game is pretty tight, I play a trinisphere and follow up with chalice of the void at 2. I get Karn in play and at low life he manages to get off a tinker, darksteel won't be enough to save him from what I have on the board, so he gets vault. I think about it for a while and see that he basically has two potential outs to the situation. Voltaic Key or Hurkyl's Recall/Rebuild. I have a chalice in hand, but can't play it at one because of my chalice at 2 currently on the board. So I get spooked by the tinker for vault and animate my chalice for 2 and then play my chalice at 1 to stop key. My logic was basically that I could probably recover from a Hurkyl's (he only has 1-2 cards in hand at this point and missed his last land drop and would have to pretty much tap out to cast the hurkyl's) but that key would definitely win him the game. Turns out that he doesn't have the key, but rips it off the top on his turn. Games 4-2 Matches 2-0
Round 3: Craig Dupre with Oath I don't remember too much about the details of this match, I seem to recall that I had a hand with alot of mana, Lodestone Golem and a sculpting steel, if the LSG resolves then I can sculpt it the next turn and really put the boots to him, but he counters the Lodestone and I sort of stall out from there. Games 2 and 3 I had the hardcore lockdown hands and he can't get out from under my sphere effects. He asks me to concede facing down multiple golems with a hard lock. I do the math and agree, Craig's a good guy, why not? Games 6-3 Matches 3-0
Round 4: ID Games 6-3 Matches 3-0-1
Top 8: ELD with Remora/Tezzeret Game 1: I'm actually a bit hazy on this game. I think I get a hardcore lockdown hand game 1 and he never breaks out.
Game 2: I seem to recall him tinkering for a Sphinx of the Steel Wind, I make multiple copies of it using sculpting steel before I get Hurkyl's Recalled. I forget the situation exactly, but I need a tangle wire to resolve to keep him from going lethal (I took a ton of damage from my 3 ancient tombs this game) but he plays it right and it gets countered. I forget why, but replaying sculpting steel would not have been sufficient to keep me in the game.
Game 3: Really tight game, I forget the details, but I think I beat him down with a Lodestone to a low life total, then he hurkyl's me, but he has no gas to follow it up with. I rebuild my board the following turn. He's at 3 and has a tinker that he mystical tutored for. He had a decision the previous turn where he could have played mana crypt and taken his chances on the flip knowing that I had a sphere of resistance in hand that got hurkyl's recalled back. So because of his mana and what I had on the board he could've either taken the 50/50 chance of losing to his crypt or take the chance that he gets a land and has just enough mana to cast tinker. His math is off because he was counting moxes as mana sources, doesn't draw a mana source and loses one mana short of casting tinker for a probable win.
Games 8-4 Matches 4-0-1
Top 4: Jeff with Oath Games 1-2: I don't remember too much about these other than getting busted hands with spheres, crucible and strip mine, he never breaks out of my sphere effects either game. Games 10-4 Matches 5-0-1
Top 2: Craig Dupre with Oath Games 1-3: I don't remember too much about this, pretty sure he had one Oath god hand and I had two solid lockdown hands for the win. I remember an Emrakul being put into play by Show and Tell, but thanks to wasteland and a Smokestack at 3 he never gets to attack. The game was pretty academic from there as he has no permanents and I have crucible/waste, null rod and multiple sphere effects. Games 12-5 Matches 6-0-1
My List: 4 Wasteland 4 Chalice of the Void 4 Mishra's Workshop 3 Mishra's Factory 4 Sphere of Resistance 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Sapphire 3 Scupting Steel 2 Null Rod 4 Lodestone Golem 3 Crucible of Worlds 4 Thorn of Amethyst 4 Ancient Tomb 1 Sol Ring 1 Mox Jet 1 Black Lotus 4 Smokestack 1 Mana Vault 4 Tangle Wire 1 Karn, Silver Golem 1 Tolarian Academy 1 Trinisphere 1 Mox Pearl 1 Strip Mine 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mox Ruby
Sideboard: 2 Null Rod 4 Bujoka Bog 4 Razormane Masticore 1 Phyrexian Tower 2 High Market 1 Sculpting Steel 1 Crucible of Worlds
MVP: Null Rod, It shuts off some win conditions and makes the mana denial plan just that much more potent. I think 2 might be the right number for this deck.
Disappointing: Phyrexian Tower/High Market. I guess this is always the problem with MUD's answers to Oath, I feel like the pre-oath plan always shows up too late to matter and the post-oath plan is never enough to get the job done. I guess I can't complain about the matchup, I went 4-0 against it for the day, but I was hoping for more contribution from those cards than I got.
