not even kidding. "Understanding Gush: Key Strategies to Win More Games" http://www.quietspeculation.com/ebook-library/First chapter is free on the website. I'm curious to see how well this works out, to my knowledge this hasn't been done for vintage before. Anyone know if Pat Chaplin sold any significant quantities of his e-book? In the game of Magic: The Gathering, Stephen Menendian is in a class of his own. The most vocal advocate of Magic’s oldest sanctioned format, Vintage, Stephen is one of the only writers on the planet who could write this book. Weighing in at over 100 pages, Understanding Gush: Key Strategies to Win More Games is the first release of the Quiet Speculation Masters Series. In this series, well-known writers from around the game of Magic will delve deep into topics that are unsuitable or too broad to be covered in the magazine format.

I picked up Steve's book. It's an excellent primer and really well thought out. I wasn't playing the format during the first or second gush eras, so it was an invaluable tool for me. Definitely worth the money.

It's not Menendian, I can say that much. Doug Linn wanted to announce it more formally here, but it's pretty much out of the bag now.

I'm not sure, but it was bound to surface at some point. Apparently he's been getting awesome reviews from people who bought the whole thing. It's a solid read from what I've seen.

Seconded. It manages to be extremely in depth without being intimidating, the pace of the writing is really great. The book features the right balance between theory and practice. PS : I'm not Steve either.

I'm not sure why no one has tried to promote the book here, either. I bought it a couple days ago and have been reading it.
A decent amout of the first half of the book was review for me - I played Gush heavily during the first and second "Gush eras" and I was quite successful with it - but Steve makes it easier in his book by giving simple "rules of thumb" to follow. So now instead of going through a full thought process for every play I've been able to simplfy my approach and focus on the more difficult decisions. Anyone that hasn't played 20+ tournaments with Gush will save himself a lot of time by reading this stuff instead of figuring it out through trial and error.
The second part of the book has some really in-depth stuff about taking it to the next level. There's also a couple brand-new decks in there that are pretty cool, AND there's a ton of example deck lists in there that other people have played that Steve gives his analysis on.
All in all - if you're serious about playing a Gush deck, few people know them as well as Menendian.

I just read the first chapter and found it really interesting. I always liked the way Steven lifts Magic theory to an even higher level of intellectual discussion. I will buy the e-book for sure.
Note that I am also -not- Steven Menendian. Also note that if I -were- Steven Menendian, I'd tell you that I am -not- Steven Menendian for obvious reasons.

It seems like the website is down at the moment. Does anyone have a link to the pdf for chapter 1?

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.
Much like humanity itself.
