Where in the South are you?  It wouldn't make any sense to recomend tournaments in Virginia if you live in Texas.

I have a friend that is trying to get into the format, but being fom the MidWest, I don't know much about the tournament scene in the south.  Could somebody please tell me what would be closest place to play near Northern Alabama?  Travels is not much of an issue.  Thanks in advance.

If you hear something about north Alabama, let me know...I am unable to find anything.  The LA, MS, and AL players need to pool resources and throw a mox tourney.

We used to have a semi-regular North Carolina thing. Those went away a few years ago. Here in GA, we have regular Legacy, but the spotty Vintage tournaments dried up. The last one had 6 people (Brassman, me, one of the store owners, some kid who brought Ichorid, and 2 others). They still gave out the Mox Ruby. That said, I know they'd hold one again but they'd have to know people were going and what not.

Sorry about the delayed response, been dealing with some life stuff lol.

I live in lake charles, and we dont really have a vintage scene there at all. I convinced the local shop owner to hold a free vintage tourney, just to try to get people there and to see if we could even get a turnout. Only 3 people showed up =/

Im in lafayette right now with the wife and I stopped by the shop here and apparently they have a legacy tourney every week, the guy said that about 20 or so people show up for them. It would probably be easier to get something set up here in lafayette.

Id be willing to travel to the surrounding states though if anyone wants to set something up. Ill look into seeing about getting something going at the shop here and if it works out ill post about the details

Depending on what side of LA you are on there is a small Vintage/Legacy scene in Houston. My gf lives in Lafayette so I can tell you that Lafayette is 3.5 hours from Houston.

http://www.asgardgames.net/

Legacy every Satruday and Vintage one Sunday a month.

-Cheers-

I was looking at their site, I live in Lake Charles so that wouldn't be much of a drive, But it doesn't look like they are doing them anymore

Glenn Godard of Sunmesa Events has confirmed that there will be a Vintage 8-man tournament at Dragon*Con (in Atlanta: www.dragoncon.org). Incidentally, this year's gaming Guest of Honor at Dragon*Con? None other than Richard Garfield himself.

I asked him about the possibility of running an unsanctioned proxy event to draw more players, and he told me that if we could get 10 or more people, it'd happen, with a "cool prize".

So let's make this happen and bring Vintage back to the south. Within a week we'll have the full proxy rules and entry fee worked out. Feel free to throw suggestions my way - I'm also @JoshJMTG on twitter and a writer for www.quietspeculation.com. If you're going to Dragon*Con, send me a message!

Proxy schemes I'm familiar with:
- 10proxy
- 15proxy
- X proxies with $1/proxy after that, to some proxy cap
where proxies have to be basic lands to avoid potential confusion.

Count me in, since it's proxy and I live in Ala it would'nt be that bad of a drive. Being able to meet Richard Garfield would be pretty ballin too.

8 man tourney?  Are you f***ing s***ing me?  you are hoping for 10?  This is why Vintage blows...except in New England and Ohio apparently.  What ever happened to 8 ROUNDS with 80+ players?  That was fun.  8 players is barely worth me getting out of bed.

I had a 13 man Mox Jet tournament before I had a 90 man Lotus tournament.

You can't build a community overnight - playing in that eight man tournament might be what gets you from something small to something tremendous (in time.)

And, btw, the epicenter of American Vintage is NYC-Philadelphia.

Those are just the typical "Win-A-Box" tournaments, and are sanctioned no-proxy events.

I'm hoping to get over 16 (and ideally closer to 30), but the proxy event will be run with as few as 10.

Atlanta is still has a huge Legacy player base so hopefully the DragonCon events can draw them in with proxies. Is there a date/time set for a vintage event?

Not yet. The event list is here: http://sunmesaevents.com/spotlight/?ids=47 but there isn't a schedule yet.

Yep.  It's 15-proxies unsanctioned on Satuday at 6pm with an expected duration of 6 hours.  I'll be there if I can get the rest of the cards I need.  If there are going to be people from TMD, PM me and I'll give you my google voice number.  First pint is on me.

Not sure if North Carolina is considered "South", but GamersHaunt is running a tourney in North Carolina:
