I drew decently against Rich, I can't complain about the hands I got.  He drew very well though, and I can't really keep up with a guy who manages to resolve ancestral and two thirsts by turn two, two consecutive games.

I'll be back for your head, Mr. Shay.

Also, in round eight, I made Carl play out our match so I could assure a stronger seeding for the top eight.  I raped him violently, with no lube or reacharound.

I don't think I'm putting up a report, because I can't remember wtf I played in the swiss.

to take nothing away from rich's proformence but If I'd been on my game in round one we'd have drawn.  I didn't play necromancy in responce to his yawg will because I was convinced that the squee I'd returned to my hand on turn 2 or so was in my graveyard on turn 8.  Had I not made that mistake Rich and I would have started a Game 4 on turn 1 of overtime with Dragon having 3 of 5 turns.

then my deck decided that it hated me.  Against mixing mike I litterally saw over half my deck in both games (I had doubble bazaar both games) and in game one I couldn't find a dragon or a tutor and in game two I couldn't find an animate or a tutor.  Given that my odds on either of these situations are better then 10% on any given card; seeing more then half my deck and not seeing one of these cards is like a <1% chance.  Multiple consecutive games of said behavior is just fucking rediculious.  I'm really frustrated about my deck's preformance.

I went 1-3 drop.  I deserved it for losing a match the way I lost round one but still that shit is out of hand.  Things that happen less then on the order of 1/10000 (<.01*<.01=<.0001) just shouldn't occur.

This tournament was a lot of fun. Carl and I were fighting against sleep as we played out our third game, and it is fair to say that neither of us were playing our best. I did indeed win with Lava Dart after Carl put himself to one  Very Happy

Meddling Mage (Mike Lydon) kept detailed notes of the final match. I'll write more about this when I haven't been awake for 23 hours.

I have a report in the works, which is actually really detailed and theory oriented. It revolves around Waterbury suprising some of the best players in the format by NOT following a metagame trend and playing whatever.dec anyhow. Every 'name' player that I spoke to make the same miscalculation as I did. We all thought it was going to be a Fish, Control Slaver, and Workshop metagame - I couldn't have been more wrong!

I do want to say that Carl, Rich Shay, The Method, Eastman are all excellent representations of Type 1 players to the point that they make me proud to be a leader of this community. These type of players don't just make Type 1 events fun to attend but they ARE Type 1. These type of players are the reason the format continues to grow.

Congrats to everyone who did well at Waterbury,  to Rich for winning, and to me and everyone else who predicted it (although to be fair it didn't take a great deal of foresight/intuition to know that's how it would turn out).

I can't even imagine trying to play a match with everything on the line at 4AM after playing more than 10 rounds already. That's INSANE. I look forward to any coverage of the final match between Carl and Rich (I believe someone did cover it but am not 100% sure).

Congrats to Carl Winter for playing a deck that no one expected and playing so well - he beat every combo deck out there: TPS, Belcher, Dragon and most of the good other decks: 4cc, Tog, Fish, to prove that LongDeath is a serious contender.  Moreover, Carl Winter = Awesome.  The only thing Carl lost to was Control Slaver at 4am and Smmenen Blue with Chalices out of 12 rounds of magic.

I think that to say Carl's loss was inevitable is overstatement Hyperion and probably losing to Lava Dart reflects the tense match of two extreme tired people.

Between the Steve's I think I just had a serious blush fit.

But yeah.  The Lava Dart thing was freaking hilarious.  My report will have some more stuff on it(lots of random things that led up to it) and Eli was trying to tell me that a completely irrelavent play would have won me the match, which it wouldn't have(more to come obv).

Game 3 I'm honestly not sure if I would have won if myself and Rich weren't so ridiculously tired.  I took "The Forbidden Look" after the game and my next 9 cards or so were all Duresses and mana sources.  Rich really really smashed me hardcore game 2.  His sideboard was also AMAZING.  Mad props.

Since my job at school is amazing I should hopefully finish my report this week.  It has the gassiest title EVER.

EDIT:  There is VERY detailed finals coverage coming soon.  I can't remember who was doing it, but they did an amazing job on both sides and I can't wait to see it because I don't remember everything that happened.

Go go gadget notes and coverage!

i think they were too afraid to take a crack at some real magic players.

once they heard jp, zherbus AND myself were going to be there, they must have decided to stick to playing the fish vs 4 color tog matchup to feel better.

Lemme say that Rich is a true champion in every sense of the word.  As the video will show, Rich was involved in a "controversial" game with another player.  His response to somewhat sketchy playing by his opponent was more generous and gracious than he needed to be.  After all this, and the work he has put in with the deck he is quite deserving of the win.  The format was tremendously diverse.

Yea, Rich was cool.

It was a really cool time and I would like to thank all the faces that showed up, hopefully we will get even more people for the next waterbury.

I liked my deck and I might write a report on my 6th place finish winning me a time twister.

Yeah, since I've never beaten DeathLong....oh wait, that's right, I've got a 100% win ratio against MeanDeckers with DeathLong.

Also, wouldn't your post have more appropriately been posted by JP or Zherbus...you know, your team members who didn't get pwned at Gencon.   Very Happy

Lastly, lest I get accused of participation in Hijacking....congrats to Rich for the Waterbury win.  Sounds like a really fun tourney, and a great representation of decks.

It sounds as if we really missed out on a hell of an event.  I would love to have gone, especially after the pics I've seen.  Wink

Unfortunately we were unable to attend due to conflicts of scheduling (the pains of being an adult  Sad  ).  Honestly though carl, afraid to take a crack at some real magic players?  You really are crazy.  Why on earth would we be afraid of Meandeck??  Do you realize the image you guys give off?  If you could look inside my mind and pull up my thoughts on your team, this is what you'd see:

My thoughts on Meandeck

Afraid of you, little gnome?  Sadly no.  Now go wash that dirt off your face and get ready for supper, your mommy's going to be very upset with you if she finds out you've been wearing her makeup again.

And of course, so as not to hijack, obligatory props to Mr. Shay as well.  It was a very competitive field, and you did a hell of a job!  You're on our radar Atog Lord, and Shortbus looks forward to playing against you sometime soon Smile

Carl's the fat one on the left.  He's come a long way since then.  Obviously JP's on the right, with the wand.

My thoughts on Shortbus.

I decided not to write a report, because I really didn't play anthing interesting nor did anything special happen.

But for the people who are PM'ing me, here is my decklist:

Its basically meandeck slaver sans black with other stuff.

Kill
4 Goblin Welder
2 Sundering Titan
1 Mindslaver

Draw and Tutors
3 Intuition
2 Cunning Wish
4 Thirst of Knowledge
4 Brainstorm
4 Accumulated Knowledge
1 Fact or Fiction
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Tinker

Countermagic
4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain

Mana
7 Solomoxen
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
4 Polluted Delta
1 Flooded Strand
1 Tolarian Academy
1 Library of Alexandria
4 Volcanic Island
4 Island

SB
3 Bloodmoon
3 Red Elemental Blast
2 Rack and Ruin
2 Fire/Ice
2 Gorilla Shaman
1 Shattering Pulse
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Platinum Angel

Let me just say that wishes are amazing along with the basic islands.

The MVPs of the day were bloodmoon. Gorilla shaman was also insane in slaver mirrors.

If i could change anything id add a lava dart to my board.
