Sorry i wasn't able to get this posted earlier Ive just been really busy since i got back from waterbury.

So after a somewhat Disappointing day 1 at waterbury I went back to the hotel with the rest of the team trying to find  a deck to play for day 2. I originally said that i wanted to play dragon on day 2 but after seeing around six people running it day one it didn't seem like to hot of a decision anymore. I had told myself for day 2 that i wanted to play something much more aggressive than i did day one. So i thought about playing one of my favorite decks stax, but after a rather stellar performance by 2 stax players day 1 i decided yet again that something else would be better. Spooky had decided to play grim long day 2 so i decided why not i never play combo lets give it a shot. So i begin to build pitch long and realize that i dont have an exact list on me. So i decide to call up 13nova thinking he may be the only one still up at 2 a.m. He gives me a rough list of what Phil had just played in Milwaukee and made top 8 with earlier in the day.

I look at the list and make a change of my own and then begin to build the deck. I realize quickly that i dont have simple combo stuff like rituals on me. Ben is already kinda sleeping but i tell him I'm going to steal some cards i need from him. So i go to Ben's foil Asian binder and start to grab all the essentials i need to finish up the deck.

Me and Spooky began to test the combo mirror since neither of us are big into playing combo we figure it will be important to know the mirror match relatively well. We test for about 2 hours then decide to get some sleep around 4 or so.

We wake up and make are way over to the tourney. I still need to build a SB for my deck so i go quickly begin to assemble a board that looks halfway decent.

Here is the list i ended up with

5 mox
1 lotus
1 petal
1 ring
1 vault
1 crypt
4 delta
1 strand
3 underground
1 island
1 swamp
1 tolarian
4 brainstorm
4 fow
3 grim tutor
2 mis-d
4 dark ritual
4 cabal ritual
1 windfall
1 twister
1 jar
1 tinker
1 mystical
1 vamp
1 demonic
1 imp seal
1 desire
2 tendrils
1 bargain
1 necropotence
1 chain of vapor
1 hurkyls
1 ancestral
1 time walk
1 Yawg will

Sideboard
2 chain of vapor
2 hurkly's recall
1 DSC
1 massacre
9 irrelevant cards i only used against the carps

So here it goes my results for th day as best i can remember them

Round 1 (Rector Tendrils)

Game 1 i start off with a first turn necro and get a second turn kill

Game 2 i have no idea what my opponent is playing yet all i have see to this point are island and a BS. I open game 2 with another first turn necro via demonic tutor and kill on turn 2 or 3.

2-0

1-0

Round 2 (IT)

Game 1 I dont remember much about this match so i apologies if i get anything wrong. I believe i am on the play and combo out on turn 2 or 3

Game 2 i once against dont know what my opponent is playing. This game i see him pitch a intuition to a foe and realize hes playing IT i combo out on turn 3.

2-0

2-0

Round 3 (Dave Feinstein u/w fish)

Game 1 We start the match and i believe that he thinks I'm playing SS so i plan to play my opener very much like an SS open. I lead out with a fetch and pass turn announcing that i have an upkeep effect. i sac and find my basic island and recall myself and he lets it resolve. Dave start off with sapphire and fetches for a basic plains, and then plays a meddling mage. I have double foe in hand but i am so sure at this point he thinks I'm playing SS i let it resolve. He names dark confidant. On my next turn i decide its safe to let hI'm know what im playing so i play a bs and hit a petal but still not a second land. i go through a series of events that ends up with me having a jar in play and will on top of my deck. i pass the turn with 2x fow and a chain in my hand. Dave attempts to play a null rod on his turn and i fow it he gets in for 2 and passes back to me. i crack jar during my upkeep and get my will, crypt, fow, and 4 lands. I know if i draw a blue card its GG but i dont and Dave has the fow on my will. The game ends shorty after.

Game 2 This is another pretty crazy game. on turn 2 or 3 i hardcast a jar off a cabal rit and sac the jar all i hit is my land drop for the turn and a sol ring. the next turn i follow up with a tinker for the big man after i had already massacred daves meddling mage. i pass the turn Dave plows the big guy and lays a grunt. the grunt hits me with his ability twice and the second time is two much nd my will just doesn't have enough gas for me to go off.

0-2

2-1

Round 4 (Guy from milkshake with CS)

Game 1 I have a pretty retarded six card hand where i lead with sapphire and ancestral as my bait. he forces my ancestral i then follow that up with a demonic and a lotus for my twister. i get my new 7 and half to pass the turn but i have bargain with fow back up for turn 2. he plays ruby, jet, and welder then passes turn. I combo out easy.

Game 2 I lead out with a first turn necro and draw 8 i believe. he plays a duress into a hand that looks like this   walk, tendrils, 2x ritual, grI'm, mis-d, land. im hopping hes going to take my tendrils thinking its my only copy but he takes the grim. So on my turn i play my 2 rituals and then my walk and tendrils him for 8 life. i set aside more cards take my walk turn and win.

2-0

3-1

round 5 (Chad with Mountains win again, rematch from day one)

Game 1 i play some permanents and then a twister. My new hand is land heavy but it has will, fow, and mis-d. I play land go for a few turns until i get business then i combo out with ease.

Game 2 I mull 2 six and keep a bad hand with lotus as my only mana source. he plays crypt and welder and passes turn. i draw and say go. he plays the shaman i figure he had and passes back. i draw a land play it and pass turn. he plays More dudes. i draw mystical and discard big guy from hand. i mystical at end of his turn for recall. i recall and hit some more lands and pass turn. I want to wait until i have a fow in hand since his clock is slow and i fear orims chant may be in his hand. i wait a turn or 2 more until I'm at 7 life and i combo out casting a tendrils for 10 and then one for 12.

2-0

4-1

Round 6 (guy with long)

Game 1 he takes a long tI'me looking at his hand and i can tell he is counting so i put him on long even though im not positive. I lead out with land mox walk. i take my walk turn and play a BS which hit me some gas. i decide that I'm sure enough that hes playing long that i will put my fow back on top and go all out for the win this turn. My read is right and i win.

Game 2 He start off with land go. i play a first turn necro (which i know sucks in the combo mirror but i wasn't sure what he was playing so i didn't really board) I pay 9 life and keep a hand of 7 that is 2x fow, 1 recall, 3 rituals, and demonic tutor. He plays another land on his turn and then a cabal ritual i force the ritual and then combo out easy on my turn.

2-0

5-1

Round 7 me and kowal get paired up and draw into top 8.

Top 8 round one (Dan with Gilded claw)

Game 1 he leads off with a chalice at one and passes the turn. I play a walk and then pass back. he plays a jesters cap and passes back. i have hurkys in hand already and am trying to see what i can do i am force to play the hurk and pass turn. Dan draws grim monolith which allows him to replay jesters cap and activate for the win.

Game 2 i look at my opener and tell Dan it look like a first turn win. he gets up and walks away saying let me know when your done. i take a few minutes to examine my hand and realize i can just pull it off.

Game 3 Dan leads off with shop into sphere of res and tormods. I play land, mox, lotus and pass turn. Dan plays grim monolith and gemstone and passes back. i think for a while and realize i have to play the hurk in hand at the end of Dans turn to go off so i play a  land and pass. he drops a meddling mage which i didn't want to see and names tendrils. i hurk him at eot and draw. i think for a while then i realize if i grim tutor for demonic tutor i wil have 2 totors in my grave for will and one can find chain and the other tendrils. i sit there and calculate it all out and realize i have just enough colored mana to pull it off.

Top 4 (Ben with ICBM oath)

Game 1 i mull to 5 and Ben mulls to 6. i start off with lotus into necro and then land into vault. I draw 10 cards and pass turn. Ben plays a first turn recall and then a chalice at 0. my turn i tap my vault for mana and play a tolarian. Tap tolarian for 1 u chain my own vault and then Ben's chalice which allows my to go off with ease.

Game 2 i have relatively solid hand. be plays another turn one recall and then a chalice at 0 and passes turn. i play land and cabal therapy him naming fow and miss. Ben untaps and plays chalice at 1 and passes turn. i draw play a Land and pass. Ben untaps plays oath and passes back. i hurk him at end of turn and then sac the token to cabal again. i see he cant do anything and i combo out easy.

Finals Ben Kowal

Game 1 Ben leads out with a crypt and passes the turn. i play a land and rit into necro. he untaps and plays tinker i think for a while and force it. he passes back i play some mana and draw 4 more going to 6 life. Ben plays nothing relevant i believe and passes back to me. i play a few spells and then a demonic tutor with tendrils and chain in hand. I grab minds desire and then attempt to play chain he forces and i play a desire for 6. all i need is a ritual for the tendrils in hand but i hit my other tendrils ont he third card and Ben scoops.

Game 2 me and Ben both open up with some ridiculous looking hands. he starts off with sapphire crypt and tinker for DSC, and then follows that up with a tormods crypt and a tolarian academy leaving him with 2 in hand. I start out with land mox lotus and then a ritual which Ben forces. i brainstorm and pass the turn he draws beats for 11 and passes back. i look at my hand for a min or 2 and realize i have the win if he doesn't crypt me when i play hurky'ls. i play hurk right away tagting him hoping he views it as a defensive play just to get rid of his big guy. he says OK nd puts everything in his hand leaving his with a  tolarian in play and a 1 unknown in hand. I think for  a min. and then play ritual into demonic for another ritual which gives me thresh so i play a cabal to go up to six mana so i can play grim tutor for will and get the win.

Waterbury was a blast and i will be going back again for sure. Id like to thanks Ray for taking the time to hold such a great event and i look forward to more int he future.

As far as the deck, i was very happy with it all day. I mulled to six quite a few times but was always able to recover with a solid hand. I only lost 3 games the entire day 2 of which were to feinstien and the other was to Dan.

In general, how difficult did you find most of your play decisions to be? Did you start to think after the tournament several times "Oh I should have done that?"

It would have been hot if I had more than 2 total mainphases against you.

I made untold play mistakes in this game thanks to the match in the top four kicking my ass pretty hard, but I'm still kicking myself for both of the heinous misplays readers should catch:

1) Crypting in response shuts off Cabal Ritual.  This may very well be more important than having mana after Hurkyl's resolves.
2) Getting Mindslaver instead of Colossus, given Slaver will kill faster and I actually had the mana to use it the next turn.

As I said earlier though, it's only fair considering how badly I massacred TK's SS on day one.

Game 1 i start off with a first turn necro and get a second turn kill

I open game 2 with another first turn necro via demonic tutor and kill on turn 2 or 3.

Game 2 I lead out with a first turn necro and draw 8 i believe.

Game 2 He start off with land go. i play a first turn necro

Game 1 i mull to 5 and Ben mulls to 6. i start off with lotus into necro and then land into vault.

Game 1 Ben leads out with a crypt and passes the turn. i play a land and rit into necro.

Holy shit that's a lot of turn 1 necro's.

Now that's a nice play.

Congrats on the win TK! You have fully proven yourself as an all-round player, winning with shops, drains, rits, and little men.

@sonataofthecathedral

I don't recall any instances where i realized i had made a huge error for the most part i took my time and thought through my plays. I have also watched Becker play this deck a lot of times so when in doubt i thought to myself what would Becker do.

THE DURESS PROOF HAND!!!

Man, you had a bunch of turn 1 necros.  I'm surprised Jar failed for you 2 games in a row against Feinstein, that doesn't happen that often.

That was seriously a great play against Dan.  Wow.  I'm not sure I would have seen that.

Congrats TK, you really have proven yourself to be quite a solid player. You've been dominating recently. Keep up the good work.
