I hate vacuuming because the noise a vacuum makes drives me nuts.  Since I happen to have made a fair bit of money this summer, I decided that I would purchase a Roomba to do the vacuuming for me while I'm out.

My Roomba arrives tomorrow, and it needs a name.  Post your suggestions, and I'll go with whatever I like best.

Obviously it should be called B.R.A.M. which is an acronym for Budgetary Robootic Abstersion Machine. I think that's the reason my parents gave me this name, too.

Alternatively, you could call it Kryten, the hyper-polite but obsessed cleaning mechanoid aboard the JMC Red Dwarf.

Kryten:

I'd call him Flynn, or MCP, because it... er, he, is disc-shaped.

Definately Ernie. It has the shape of an Ernie. Was thinking of Bert as well though.

So go with bert or Ernie.

I've decided to go with a friend's suggestion of Sharon, after the neurotic Cylon in Battlestar Galactica who doesn't want to admit she's a ROBOT.  I find some delicious irony in naming something so clearly a ROBOT after someone who desperately doesn't want to accept that she is one.  This is clearly a different Sharon, one not capable of having sexual relations with the crew chief or shooting Commander Adama.  It is, however, capable of vacuuming my floor.

Don't be so sure.

Also, I suggest "Roomba".

I suggest LEON.

Leon is a pimp as shit name for a big artifact.

Somehow the name Leon sounds like a logical choice...

Also, "Pintsize" springs to mind.

I said that too, but my friend said that it was ok because she was a girl telling me to do it.  She wanted me to tape a picture of Sharon on it as well, but I declined to go that far.

Maybe you could paintbrush some lush red lips at the end of the hose as well...

OK, so it doesn't have a hose, but this particular innuendo was just too convenient.

A girl told you that something is OK because a girl told you to do it?

Point out that women should be obscene and not heard and you want to call your robot Keeper because it will hopefully last for years even though it sucks mightily.

It would have to be powered by like whale oil or something to complete the analogy.  After all, Keeper ran on a manabase that was from like a hundred years ago...
