84, huh?

Take it west to exit 21 and bear right off the exit, turn right on to Field Street, and then right on to Grand Street, and you should be able to see it from there.

I've made the trip at least five times, dude.  And was navigator twice.  It's a pretty easy trip to give directions for.

Nah, I got owned last time.  Plus it's a pain to carry around and wear the suit.

Yeah, so I thought the event started at 12 and set my alarm accordingly. I'm a giant throbbing boner. I'm still debating driving down to meet people, but I don't know if I will as I for sure will miss the first 1.5 rounds of the tournament.

Smmenen is currently 4-0 and CrazyCarl is 3-1....  roughly 190 people and 8 rounds of Swiss!  They increased the prize due to the turnout.

More results as I hear them.

I went 6-2 in the Swiss, which was not good enough to make Top 8 (a 6-1-1 and good tiebreakers were needed). I played Madness and finished 21st overall (out of 191 players!), which was good for a Mirrodin booster pack.

4 Basking Rootwalla
4 Wild Mongrel
4 Arrogant Wurm
3 Roar of the Wurm

3 Anger
2 Wonder

4 Careful Study
4 Bazaar of Baghdad
4 Fiery Temper
3 Deep Analysis
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk

4 Wooded Foothills
4 Taiga
4 Tropical Island
2 Volcanic Island
1 Forest
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
1 Lion's Eye Diamond

4 Red Elemental Blast
4 Artifact Mutation
3 Waterfront Bouncer
2 Krosan Reclamation
2 Ray of Revelation

I prepared my sideboard for Workshop decks, control decks, random aggro decks, and Dragon.

I beat TNT (2-0), monogreen LD (2-0), Urphid (2-0), Scepter Keeper (2-0), Parfait (2-0), and Sligh (2-0).

I lost to Smmenen.dec (0-2) and Hulk (1-2).

I had no chance against Smmenen.dec, since I did not prepare my sideboard for non-Dragon combo decks. The three Bouncers and two Krosan Reclamations/Ray of Revelations were my post-SB cards for the Dragon matchup, but I never faced it all day.

Had I had better luck against the Hulk player, I might have won the match. I won Game 1 easily, but Game 2 saw me double mulligan (first a land with just Pearl and Jet as mana, second a hand with 1 land and multiple ROTWs, Deep Analyses, an Arrogant Wurm and Wonder) into an acceptable hand. However, he drew FOUR Wastelands/Strip Mines and an early Deed for 1 killed a Rootwalla and two Moxen (which was 2/3 of my mana base), after having only seen a Brainstorm for digging into them. I then lost a close game 3. Oh well.

I saw lots of Landstill, Hulk, and Oshaway Stompy-ish decks being played. They were by far the most prevalent archetypes.

It was an awesome tournament. Ray Robillard did a fantastic job running it. I played against MethodXL ((don't remember real name...TNT) and Steve Menendian (Smmenen.dec) and met a bunch of other TMD'ers for the first time as well....Carl Winter (CrazyCarl), leviat (don't remember real name) and Bryce Reynolds (kl0wn), among many others.

My friend Rich Shay (The Atog Lord) that I drove up with came in 9th Place. He was playing Control Slavery, similar in style to the build played by Kim Kluck at Dulmen.

I did not do well enough to consider it worth writing a seperate tournament report, but the Madness primer followup will discuss this build in more depth.
