Anyway, with all this said, I had a great time and hopefully the tournament for the Mox Jet will have a greater turnout than this one did.  Special thanks to Kyle for taking the time to come down and play some type 1. It was a pleasure and hopefully we see more of you in the future.

Also, the coatl deck that I played was very good.

Round one I played against Mike Ritzler. I won 2-0. Game one he was dredging for the win  and swung twice with Coatl, once for 11 and again for 13. GG.  Game two I had multiple wastelands and extirpates.  What I boarded against dredge was -3 null rod -3 chalice of the void- 1 tarmogoyf 1 brainstorm -1 ponder  +4 extirpate +1 darkblast +1 Diabolic edict +2 Zombie infestation +1 engineered explosives

Round 2 i played against Kyle playing dredge. Same board. He got me game one. Big surprize right? Ha Ha.  I won game two with goyfs, and he CRUSHED me game three i believe on turn three or four.

Round 3 I played against Dustin Chapman playing BUG fish. Game 1 he opens up with Dual emerald Bob and I force it.  My turn one i waste. He doesnt rip a land and then i drop turn 2 null rod. he draws twice then scoops. Mana screw sucks.  I board the following: - brainstorm -ponder -3 null rod + darkblast +diabolic edict +2 zombie infestation +1 engineered explosives. I do not remember the exact details of game two but it invovled a really big Lorescael Coatl and me casting timewalk.

Round 4 I played against MEATBAG playing Smmenen's recent grow list.  Game one I eat away at his mana base, and swing with goyf's. Set chalice at one with a rod on table. My board was interesting because i normally never sid eout some of those things, but i learned setting chalice at 1 wins games against this deck, but here is what i boarded: -crop rotation -vampiric tutor -brainstorm - ponder -1 null rod + darkblast + diabolic edict +2 zombie infestation +engineered explosives. Game two was awesome, has i had to waste my own tropical to keep from dying to inkwell leviathan. Zombie infestation kept him from attacking the turn before my snake got big enough to block the inky without dying. Eventually the snake got absurdly big and it ate MEATBAG. It is really gratifying watching some one block with a really big robot to keep from dying FYI. We could have drawn but niether of us thought about it, sorry man, didnt mean to knock you out of top8.

Top 8 I play Mike Ritzler again. This time he won a game! Same board, but I found out that zombie infestation in this match up is kind of good. Also, hard casted Squee off a lotus in game three for the beat down plan! Actually it was so i could edict myself and not loose my snake while trying to remove his bridge from belows. The play was uber loose but it worked.

Top 4 I scoop to Eric Richardson because he wanted the chance to crush Billy Gogol for not taking the top4 split.  Turns out Billy lost his top 4 game and Eric won in the finals. But for the record, I think I would have gotten this round had we played.

I was really impressed with the way the deck played and I will surely play it again. Super thanks to Wiley for the idea, and as well as Jay Carter who helped me continue to think about different board options for the deck.

I was happy that Eric won- for those of you who don't know him- he's a really cool guy that is also really good for vintage.  Kind of like Vassago!

I couldn't make the tourney because of child care issues, but rest assured I'll compete for the mox.   Very Happy

Well run Tourney as usual Doug.   Smile

Round 4 I played against MEATBAG playing Smmenen's recent grow list.
For the record, it's his Grow a Goyf list from the Waterbury with a few changes. I took out a Confidant as he killed me (or got too close to) a few times during testing.  He was replaced with a Trygon Predator which I feel is a good call for the deck.  I also swapped an Underground for a basic Island since we don't really have anyone playing any Workshops in our area.  I used 2 Dryads and 1 Goyf during testing and was pleased with it, but I ended up tossing in a Goyf for card # 61.  I don't think it's the right call at all, but I really wanted 2 of both beaters and didn't feel comfortable cutting any other cards without testing.  My board was very different as well because of the lack of Shops.

The deck is a blast to play and I can't wait to try new things with it.

Guess I can't get there every time huh?

I'd also like to mention that Jay Webb has not beat me in any event ever.  That is all.

Doug I was interested in the snakes deck the first time I seen it. Nobody had mentioned a black version and I knew it was going to do well. There are however some card choices I was going to ask about. Were you happy with the 2 riftstone portals and why include them because you play no white? I have been thinking about dark con in this deck have you tried this out in testing? Do you run enough blue sources to support force?

I do like the riftstone portals. There have been multiple times where i needed bazaar to tap for mana. Also, fetches tapping for green is awesome. I never actually fetch out blue duals unless i am going to use them immediately, if i can that is.  I try to play around wasteland if i can.  And just for the record i normally fetch out bayou first.  I dont think I would play Bob in this specific list, but i am sure some one will try. Also, no i have not tested it.  Yes, i think there is enough blue sources/cards to support force of will. I have even pitched coatl to force of will.  I my experience, you really only need to force of will something once in the game.      I try and bait their force of will with like chalice at zero, ancestral recall, or whatever, and resolve either null rod or snake.  often i save my force of will for this play so i force my card to resolve.  anyway, if you have anymore questions feel free to PM me.

Had a good time playing and looking forward to the next big one. Check out my tournament report in The Mountains Win Again thread in the vintage open forum.

Thanks all for playing and make sure to come to the weekly saturday type 1 events at 7pm for more vintage fun and play testing.

Nether Void is absolutely terrible. I can't envision any game I've played with The Deck where I would have wanted everything to be mana leaked.

Hey this is Kyle from the top eight. So this was my first vintage tournament and I did enjoy myself. I ran dredge, which seemed to be fairly popular seeing how we had 3 other people running it, and all of us made it to the top 8. I'll start with my list,
Main Deck:
4: Ichorid
4: Golgari Grave-Troll
4: Golgari Thug
4: Stinkweed Imp
2: Darkblast
4: Cabal Therapy
4: Narcomoeba
4: Unmask
4: Bridge from Below
4: Serum Powder
2: Flame-Kin Zealot
4: Leyline of the Void
3: Dread Return
4: Chalice of the Void
1: River Kelpie
4: Dryad Arbor
4: Bazaar of Baghdad
Sideboard:
4: Gemstone Mine
3: City of Brass
4: Emerald Charm
4: Chain of Vapor

Round One Alex (Dredge)
Game One:  I start out with Leyline in play and a bazaar in hand. He doesn't have any answer to it and scoops after a few turns.
Game Two: Sick hand with a bazaar, gemstone, charm and chain along with a troll to dredge with. He opens up with an arbor and no leyline so I just quickly start the dredge plan beating for 21 on my second turn he scoops after seeing no answer.
Round Two Doug (Bazaar Snake)
Game One:  I win the die with is always cool, especially when I have 2 bazaars in my opening hand. Start with the bazaar and some discarding, but he wastes the bazaar on his turn. With the second bazaar in hand however I quickly manage to get the beats on and win.
Game Two: Mulligan to 4, however I never manage to draw anything and lose to the beat coming from a goyf and a snake.
Game Three: Start off with leyline in play and play a turn one chalice on zero which does end up stopping an emerald. I quickly get 2 trolls into the graveyard which ends up being enough to get some more dredge even after he wastes my bazaar. I start putting some ichorids into play and win from there.
Round Three Miklos (painter)
Game One: Get to go first for the third time. Get the perfect draw with a bazaar and I unmask his relic of progenitus quite luckily. I then proceed to go on to pull off a turn two win.
Game Two: He starts off with a lotus and 2 pithing needles, but no other source of mana. I have a chain in hand along with a gemstone mine, and a bazaar. However with the two needles out I go with the draw and discard and then dredge and repeat plan. He isn’t able to get anything going and eventually I manage to beat him down.
Round Four Dominic (tezz)
We draw, and I go get some food.
So after the 4 rounds I end up as top seed and get to face Alex from round one again
Quarters Alex (dredge)
Game One: I open with a leyline in play, and after he draws for the turn he decides to scoop and move onto game two
Game Two: So we start game two before any of the others have even started game one. Neither one of us has leyline to start, and both are kinda light on dredgers. He starts getting his in first and beats me before I can beat him.
Game Three: I sideboard out a couple of my chains which I had put in after game one to try and speed the deck up. So my leyline removers are now 4 charms and chains, but I have the full stash of dread target and dreads to win quickly with. I mulligan my first hand despite having a bazaar because I’m concerned about the leyline attack, and I don’t have my own. My six cards are 2 bazaars, a gemstone and a couple of other goodies. I had to really think about this one and decide to keep it thinking if worse comes to worse I would have 2 bazaars to look for the leyline removers and then I should be able to race from there. And if he doesn’t leyline then I should be able to win turn 2 or three at the latest. Of course he has the leyline to open with, and then draws into a bazaar on his third turn I believe. Meanwhile I go through 29 cards before getting an emerald charm at which point he has too much going on for me to stop it and he wins.

So I end up going 3-1-1 and 7-3 overall. I was very pleased with this being my first vintage tournament, even though I was upset that it took 29 cards to get the answer in the rubber game of the match, but sometimes that’s how the cards end up. I would really like to thank Doug who was really nice and I will certainly do my best to make it out for the next time.

Congrats to Eric on the win.

@vassago: When is the mox tourney?  I'll have to make sure I make the trip up for that one.

Also, don't forget that the Tucson tourney on June 13th is for a Library, so hopefully we'll see some of you there.

I finally got around to taking some notes so I could write up a report.  Also, I'm really bad with names so if I played you I'm sorry for forgetting it already.  Looking back I realize the notes weren't as good as I thought they were, but what follows is what I can remember:

Round 1 (BUG Fish?)
Game 1: I beat him down quickly with Kird Ape, Goyf, and Nacatl.  When he's at 1 I play Fanatic for the win but he stifles making me take one extra turn to win.
Game 2: I think he takes almost all his damage this game from his own Confidants.  He wins the game on 1 life with 2x Bob in play (and 2x Goyf and Trygon Predator).  Oh well.
Game 3: I come out fast with a Clamp on an Ape, but he overwhelms me with discard and beats me to death with Goyfs.

Round 2 (TMWA by Eric)
Game 1: He leads with Thoughtsieze stealing a Pridemage.  I lead with land, mox, Fanatic, Vial.  I am then savagely beaten by his turn 2 Null Rod.  I fail to draw a second land for the entire game instead I draw both of my other moxen and my lotus.  I get killed by 2x Mindsensor and a Grunt.
Game 2: We go back and forth but I just get more dudes and eventually win.
Game 3: I mull then keep a hand I should have mulliganed.  I open with Canonist+Clamp, which he Hides.  I then do nothing for the rest of the game until wins with a Mindsensor.

Round 3 (Tezz)
Game 1: I lead with a turn 1 Canonist followed by a turn 2 Teeg which pretty much go the distance.  I see artifact mana, Merchant Scroll into Ancestral, and Demonic Tutor from my opponent before the bears get there.
Game 2: He leads land, Mox, Key.  I follow land, Mox, Lotus, Ancient Grudge x2, Fanatic (that opening hand was the nuts!).  Turn 2 I drop a Pridemage and turn 3 I Krosan Grip his second mox.  Stuck on 1 mana with a walking naturalize on the board he scoops.

Round 4 (WUB Fish)
Game 1: This one goes back and forth for a few turns but he takes some damage from his Bob allowing me to get through for the win when I Path his Grunt.
Game 2: I get off to a quick start with Mogg, Ape, Goyf.  He gets back in the game with Balance, but I follow up with a few 2/3's and 3/3's to get around his Grunts for the final few points of damage.

All told I was 2-2.  I'm glad I didn't run into any of the Dredge players since after not seeing it for a few tournaments I cut my sideboard down to just 2 Needles.
