I don’t normally post my Legacy articles here, but the first part of this article may resonate with people upset on the way the B&R lists are being managed at the moment.

Basically, doing my best Pride and Prejudice and Zombies impression, I take Tom Lapille’s article, and… well, take a look for yourself:

http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/legacy/19633_The_Long_Winding_Road_Split_ArticleWhat_If_Zoo_versus_Reanimator.html

[Note:  For this article to make sense, you need to read Tom Lapille’s article from last week, explaining the banning of Mystical Tutor in Legacy (and the un-banning of Illusionary Mask and Grim Monolith), which also discusses the changes to Extended and the likelihood of Preordain getting Restricted in Vintage.]

I don't post on the source, so thanks for putting this here too.  This was another enjoyable read from you Matt, the first part definitely resonated with me.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Great article,

I had the same feeling when reading Wizards article, ANT and reanimator where the strong decks, but also hard to play.
Thats why you didn't see it that often, and that is from someone from the Netherlands, what is also know for his love for Tendrils-Combo decks in Legacy.

We will see where this leads to....

You never stop to amaze me with your great writing skill, although I don't really play Legacy I enjoyed the read.

Keep up the good work !!

Nice article but I don't know why you think Counterbalance is the best deck. ANT requires some learning but once you got it down, its actually not that hard (storm decks are not hard once you learn the basic tricks). Reanimator has ALSO made top 8s and won many large tournaments (often against CTG players). Goblins and Merfolk have great matches against Counterbalance.

Really the sick deck was ANT before the banning of Mystical Tutor. My opinion though.

The point was that the format adjusted after the Chicago results, so a Counterbalance ban at that time would have been a mistake.  Similarly, people have argued that Legacy had adjusted since Madrid to hate on 'Mystical Tutor' decks, and hence the ban on Mystical was unnecessary.  It was tongue-in-cheek riffing on LaPille's explanation.
