In this weeks installment I examine current trends in Vintage, Legacy, and Commander and make predictions about where these trends may signify in the future.

I really like the idea of 'Command your own Standard'.  I maintain (at low levels of activity) four Commander decks right now, two of which, Radha and Wydwen, I will probably keep as Eternal-Commander decks because I enjoy their high power level.

My other two, Numot and Teneb have languished for a while, and I was waiting for this summer's precon Commander decks to reinvigorate them (each of my decks being aligned with a 'wedge' that will get a precon).  However, I'm thinking about enforcing greater restrictions like 'Command your own Standard' on Numot and Teneb, maybe relaxed to also allow new cards from the precons (including possibly a different general for each).  I don't think I'll limit myself to sets that were all legal in a Standard together, but instead to any two blocks plus a core set.  Additionally, the blocks and core sets I pick for each should not overlap.

I originally built Numot to get Swans of Bryn Argoll and Niv Mizzet, the Firemind together, so Numot could be Ravnica + Lorwyn + [core set yet to be determined, though M11 looks good, thanks for Lightning Bolt and Inferno Titan].  I'd have to think about which blocks to use for Teneb, at first blush I'd lean toward Odyssey thanks to the {W} {G} and mono- {B} themes, and Zendikar, which would have fatties like Iona, Terastodon and It That Betrays for reanimation (if I stick with Teneb instead of some new general from the precon).

Edit: Links.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Brian, thank you for that very interesting and thought-provoking article. if you are looking for a deck that combines Counterbalance and Wasteland, I strongly recommend trying Dreadstill. I'm extremely happy with it.
