The release card for New Phyrexia, a pretty interesting alternative to Sculpting Steel.
I'd say the additional cost in life is worth the additional option of copying a creature.

I think that this card has a whole lot of possibilities. It's a lot more playable than it's 2 predecessors, and this card can be played in other colors as well. It can kill Legendary creatures or artifacts (play this to destroy Jitte) and can be pitched to FoW since it's basically blue. What's no to like. Now what deck would this fit in?

Any Blue deck, but less U/B combo and more MUD.

I think the extra 2 life is worth it in MUD to have the extra versatility that Metamorph can provide. It is also a Sculpting Steel that costs 3 instead of 4 under a Thorn.

Could it also reasonably have a home in some fish builds? It can 'answer' both Tinkered and Oathed monsters on the other side of the table, and otherwise clone disruption pieces with stackable abilities like Leonin Arbiter and co.

I assume you get any enter-the-battlefield abilities too, so in a deck packing say Phyrexian Revokers, Leonin Relic Warders and what not, it might have legs.

Overall, a pretty awesome card it will be worth getting a playset of. Smile

Here's the pic:

The flexibility of this card makes it great.  It can be cast with Workshop, which is nice.  3 mana + 2 life is easy for a Drain deck to do.  Maybe even Fish could use it.  And it pitches to Force!  Nice card.

What about a Blue aggro-shop list with FoW? does this card make that deck viable?

This card makes Sculpting Steel a bit weak. As if Shops needed an Answer to Kataki, Wars Wage now. I think he will definatly be used even though he is a 2 life investment and yeah is better under a Thorn. I think he will be screaming 'play me!' in some kind of MUD deck, probably a Aggro list. The creature part makes him pretty good at being able to copy a Trygon and get blocks off then or their own destruction. Definately one of the best cards in the set for Vintage so far.

Could be. One of the biggest pb of blue aggro shop is the number of blue cards, to support fow.
Before this card, you had :
- Master of Etherium,
- Fow,
- Ancestrall, Timewalk, Tinker (+ potentially mystical),

That's only 11-12 cards. To reach the 18, more or less the minimum number of blue cards necessary to support fow, one could add some Thoughcast, but this was still not sufficent (or you had to make suboptimal choices).

Perhaps now you can go with 4 master, 4 fow, 4 phyrexian metamorp, 4 Thoughcast, Ancestral, Time Walk, Tinker. This is 19 cards, sufficent to support fow.

You can always add Esperzoa, still an efficient beater. Just add Tangle Wires instead of playing infinite Spheres and it should give you a decent lock and disruption.

I agree with Wagner, Esperzoa I always found to be really good.

Things it can bounce to your benefit:
Chalice of the Void (to reset or play your moxen then drop again)
Mana Vault/Sol Ring/Mana Crypt (free mana)
Phyrexian Revoker (name something else etc.)
Phyrexian Metamorph (choose a new creature or artifact to copy)
Tanglewire (reset those counters)

Even if you play 4 FoW, would playing 4 Thorn of Amethyst be a bad idea?  You now have 12 creatures (4 master, 4 esperzoa, 4 Revoker, 4 Artifact Clone), and Thorn would still hurt your opp more than you since you would still use workshops I imagine.

Just my thoughts.

I have always found Esperzoa sub optimal. For instance, when i ask to myself the question "would I use Esperzoa if it wasn't for the blue count", my answer is "no".

With this new card, my answer would be "yes".

Mindlock Orb has lurked around the edges of playability, here is a link to a SM Blue Stax possibility deck.  Maybe the Metamorph will make Blue Stax more viable.

Um wow?  Good bye Sculpting Steel.  Being able to hit both Tinker bots and Oath fatties is nice.  Getting your own Terrastodon for MUD seems good.  This card seems really good for MUD and blue Shops.

I'm still not sure it can make Mindlock Orb a good card though.

Fixed.

This card is insane.  Best thing since Lodestone Golem.

^ I agree, with Phyrexian mana you get to pay the 3 instead of the colored mana. And I think this would possibly be a good SB or MD card in some decks like fish and the likes, I can't wait to get my box NPH.

This could be decent in Uba Stax or other Stax lists looking to abuse Welder.
Uba Stax in particular has a solid use for a second Welder or second Uba Mask which is to establish an Uba lock.

21 Resistor.dec is probably not feasible.  My guess you just won't be able to run 8 of these and Sculpting Steel because of the threat of drawing two or three and having nothing to copy.

This does answer Trygon Predator which is nice.

The way I see this going down isn't playing this card in addition to sculpting steel but rather as a replacement for it. It dodges thorns, copies creatures in addition to artifacts and pitches to FoW. Seems like a strong upgrade for the cost of -2 life and vulnerability to REB/Pyroblast.
