I was hoping we would get some more details about the voting and the list. A rather enjoyable read.

The voting was pretty simple.  I read each person who voted a list of about 160 cards and asked them to evaluate the cards on a scale of one to ten, with the constant being how good they thought the card was in Vintage right now compared to the other cards in the format.

It was a pretty fluid voting process, I allowed people to go back and ask what they rated previous cards, or if as the voting went on the realized they wanted to change a vote, I was also fine with that.

When people were voting I specifically promised that I would not publish a voter's individual votes, so that people could vote freely without having to worry about what people thought of their picks.  For instance, if somebody's picks were very different from everybody else there is the potential for that person to look like they don't know what they are talking about--just because their opinion was different.  And, since everybody on the list, I felt, deserved based on their accomplishments to be consulted in creating such a list--I wanted to figure out a voting process that would encourage people to create a list that reflected what they "actually" think, rather than what they think other people should think they should think.  Does that makes sense?

For the most part if you break the list down into chunks of twenty, most of the people have most of the cards in the same chunks.  For the most part if a card fell in 1-20, 21-40, 41-60 etc., that card was in the same zone for almost everybody.

That was probably the smart way to do it. It looks like it was well executed.

"...if they ever give Illusionary Mask or Forcefield some unreasonable errata he might be the next one knocked out of the Power Nine!"

I realize that this statement was probably tongue in cheek, but what errata could they possibly give either of these cards to make them on the level of P9?

It was a sarcastic joke.  Obviously, Sol Ring should be power 9--the only reason it isn't is because it was UC and reprinted in revised.  One of the stipulations for being P9 is the cards must be a rare from Alpha that wasn't reprinted, aka two bills.

Thought so. Smile  I still have a special place in my heart for Forcefield.  It's a fun EDH card.

I enjoyed the list and analysis.

I'm glad you had the follow through article Brian.  The last article was fun to read, but it left me wanting more – an explanation of how the others (anonymously) thought about the cards.

And I'm glad to see that Sphere of Resistance is on the list after all...

Great work.
