A play-by-play recap of my last Vintage tournament.

This is shorter than my usual tournament reports, but that's because it's free, and I didn't have as much time to devote to it and breaking down the lines of play.   Still, it should be a fun read!

Entertaining read!  Thanks for posting.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Thanks, that was the goal!  For people who like the more in depth approach, they can imagine what they would have done at each juncture, if you'd like.

Great read, and a very thought provoking take on the East Coast Wins style deck. Four copies of Preordain probably gives the deck a much different feel, as well as the Misdirections and maindeck Trygon Predators. Awesome stuff!

I have been running a similar build for the past few weeks and absolutely love how it runs in the current meta and continue to feel confident that, with a minor maindeck change, it can continue to run well in the upcoming Cage meta. Nice post and good read.

I'm surprised by the lack of Sol Ring, with 3 Jaces it gives you a lot of really unfair openings, particularly when all your countermagic doesn't cost mana. Did you miss it during the day?

Every card choice is a cost/benefit.  This deck isn't trying to be East Coast Wins -- notice I don't run Gifts, for example.  I never missed the Sol Ring, nor did I feel I was lacking in mana acceleration.   Ultimately, I choose to run Mana Crypt over Sol Ring.  I ran Sol Ring in my Mystic Remora lists, though.

The ideal scenario is to use Gush to ramp into Jace, and then Jacestorm for max value.  I prefer that to simply trying to accelerate into Jace, and spread yourself thin.  That's why I don't run Gifts, which is, imo, inferior to Jace.

Incidentally, I've never played a Gush deck since Gush was most recently unrestricted with less than 4 Preordain.   It's puzzling to me that some do.
