When am I?

Okay, here's how this is going to work. If you feel that you're ready for a Full Membership to TMD, post the following in this thread:
1. A request for us to promote you
with
2. A link to all your posts on TMD (Like so.)
and
3. A brief summary of why you think you've earned the promotion (you may include links to some of your posts).

Based on your posting history, tournament record, and community standing, you may be sent the TMD Promotion Exam.  That is a short series of questions designed to allow the staff to gauge your understanding of the game, the format, and the community.  Its length will depend on your post history.

Alternatively, the staff may outright promote people who ask for Full Member status.  That's relatively rare, so don't take it personally if you're sent the exam.

Once a decision is reached, a mod will PM you and your post in this thread will be deleted. If your application is denied, you can apply again in a month, but you're probably better off waiting until your understanding and posts improve. A number of people who were initially rejected improved and were later accepted. We won't hold your past against you--unless you haven't changed.

Also, this thread is for application posts only. Anything else will be deleted.

The promotion policy has been changed.  The exam is not required in all cases.  This post has been edited to reflect the most current policy on promotions.  -DA

If anyone hasn't answered the Intellectual Honesty question yet, you should know that the link in the exam will no longer work, as that site is down. Use this link instead: http://web.archive.org/web/20040607170828/http://denbeste.nu/cd_log_entries/2003/03/Intellectualhonesty.shtml

If there is a change in the promotion process I would like to know because I know a lot of good players aren't going to try to become full members because of the old exam, like TK, OwenT, and myself.

The test is not, and has never been the only way to be promoted to Full Member, but it is the primary method, and there certainly have been times with long stretches between promotions without the test. Being a good player is not the only criterion, as we also look closely at post quality. The best advice I can give anyone is to post well and post actively, especially in the Vintage section of TMD. Grammar, syntax, spelling and paragraphs are your friends, good threads, posts, tournament results and reports are your allies and a stack of one- and two-line posts is your enemy.

IDK why you're looking for so much credibility:  You top 8ed a couple tournaments.  Nice Job!

1.  Show, through your posting, that the site would benefit from having you as a Full Member.

1a.  Show some basic minimum interest in the site by posting with some kind of regularity, at least for a while.

1b.  Demonstrate some aptitude for Magic (preferably Vintage) through good posting or tournament results.

1c.  Relatedly, show an ability and a willingness to contribute to the site by participating in strategy-related discussions.

1d.  Don't break site rules.

1e.  Don't act like a jerk.

(These factors are interdependent and we don't demand the world as evidence they've been fulfilled.  You have done some, but not all, of the things above.  If you have questions about what you still need, follow up via PM)

Or:

2.  Take an exam designed to test whether or not your posting can satisfy (1) above, if it doesn't at the time you ask for promotion.

1.  I humbly request a private message for the TMD Promotion Exam.

2.  Here is a link to my recent posts:  http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?action=profile;u=4487;sa=showPosts

3.  After a four year hiatus, I'm getting back into Magic/Vintage.  I add discussion to strategy threads and try to help individuals in the Improvement Forum.  As of late, I'm playing rogue decks and trying to have fun at tournaments / make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.  I think many in the NJ/PA/NY region can testify to that.  As for tournament results, I've won a few pieces of power with workshops and one playing blue based control, although none of those wins have been within the last four years.

Thanks.

I would like to request the TMD Promotion Exam.

Here is a link to my posts: link.

In brief, I think I have earned the promotion through my consistent high quality of posting across a wide variety of subjects; including deck, strategy, and article discussion, as well as non-Vintage discussion like EDH, community (pimp thread) and card creation.  I've been respectful and argued rationally, agreeing to disagree when necessary.  I have become heavily invested in the Vintage format, both emotionally and financially, since returning to Magic in late 2008 (as evidenced in part by my acquisition of seven pieces of power), and would appreciate the opportunity to continue to invest by becoming a full member.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

I feel I have achieved a lot as a vintage player and done things few have, The accomplishment I'm most proud of is developing a magic scene in Orangeville Ontario, which although currently EDH didn't exist until recently. I've made top 8 in a vintage tournament once this year, at the only vintage tournament I attended. I've developed a serum powder ANT list see here http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=40782.new#new and written a primer on hermit druid Here http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=39844.0. The area I'm in is fairly dry for vintage but I play in a few vintage tournaments each year and do consistently well, I feel that playskill, knowledge and a comitement to the magic comunity make me a good candidate for full membership.

Hi,

1. Please promote me, so that I can post in some of the threads I don't have access to.

2. I have no posting history on TMD. Every time I find a thread I'm considering posting in, it turns out to be one I don't have permission to post in.

3. As a member of Magic R&D, I'd like to be able to be able to interact with the Vintage community occasionally, to keep abreast of how the format's health is perceived, and make sure we're doing all we can to serve Vintage players. I'd like to be able to discuss articles sometimes, too. I had a chance to meet with a few Vintage players in Indianapolis last year, and it was a great discussion. I'd like to be able to do things like that here occasionally.
