I really miss old Beyond Dominia, but it's nice to see a lot of the regulars from there have made this site their new T1 home.

Did BD die?  Really?  I thought that what Beyond Dominia was was a community of people sharing ideas, not an obsolete website that eventually faded away.  The real Beyond Dominia lies in the people that sustained it, not in the website.

TheManaDrain.com really is Beyond Dominia, since in almost all cases it retains the core of people that sustained the old site.

Azhrei and Matt probably will not join this board in the near future if ever.  They don't want to spend all of their time explaining why Noble Panther decks Keeper and why Land Grant should be played in Stompy.

Le Lepreux posted very little during BD's decline and K-Run, while a mod at the end, also had low post counts.

K-Run is also away, he and I talked a few days ago. He has Honorary Mod-ship like Rakso. He said hell be back and posting when he returns.

Just for the record, I guess I qualify as an oldtimer, since I used to post on BD clear back in 1997 under the now obsolete handle "Skaven." I got into many discussions concerning reprints (big surprise to anyone who's read more than three of my posts on BD), and I used to argue that Jester's Cap was a horrible card and no one should use it. Yes, that was a little naive, cause now when someone plays a cap I just laugh at them for using a suboptimal card.  

I discovered BD for the second time almost a year ago, and I wrote copiously on the site for several months, mostly about reprinting old cards, and the philosophy of the game in general. I've been playing the game for about 8 years now, and although I still like it, I don't put 1/10th the time and energy into it that I used to. I am however, always full of opinions and casual anecdotes. In a way, I'm still waiting in the wings for the inevitable reprint of type1 cards. I thoroughly believe it will happen eventually, so even if I quit playing altogether, I'll still be lurking on magic websites from time to time, looking for the early signs of the "second coming of moxes and dual lands."

So what am I saying? I wrote a lot of stuff on BD, and at my most productive I even wrote a few articles on starcity. BD was my home, because it was the only magic site I ever really bothered posting on. Although I was sad to see it go, I think as many others have said, the community lives on at this site, at least in part.

So, R.I.P. Beyond Dominia. It was, I still believe, the best place to go on the net for Type1. The last person I met who claimed to be a competitive type 1 player, had no knowledge of BD, and then proceeded to claim that there were no mono decks in the format! I still think, for whatever else I've said, that Type1 is the best format, but there's just way too much misinformation out there. Once people know the format, they can't help but like it, and BD was an excellent place to learn the nuances of the format. I sincerely hope this site picks up where Beyond Dominia left off.

I'll sorely miss Beyond Domina, however, this site has something more to offer to the average, non-Paragon player - A better outlet to be original.  I've noticed ALOT more new decks and ideas springing up since the beginning of this site.  And I really do feel that BD was becoming a bit elitist towards the end, and I think this site offers a fresh start and should allow more people to get in on the action.

Yes, I also just made the transition to TheManadrain and I hope for good. Since I was too at least scared by the elitist thingy and hated the ongoing flaming and bitching it´s quite possible that my posting rate will reach the heights of BD´s glory days.

hey now Puschkin, i remember when i first went to BD in 1999. one of my first posts was in the rumor mill and i started bitching about something stupid. a lot of people got into a lot of arguments on BD. I was an official "member" there for a whopping 3 days before rakso (i think) deleted my password for bitching. Then i went to mIRC and got kicked out 15 times in 5 minutes by multiple moderators, got banned 4 times in one week, got banned a couple of times for 2 weeks or longer, and had A LOT of people ignore me in the chatrooms...ah, those were the days...
but now, i get a fresh start. im not starting the bitching thing like when i first started at BD. so i am kinda glad that BD went under. i get a fresh start.

I decided to drop by and see the new site... seems like the same old bdominia..... except 99% of legend's posts aren't being deleted?!?!?!!?!? come on, gotta have some standards guys =)
