This is a list of a deck that took first place at a tournament in the Netherlands. There was a decent field with alot of power. I had tried green in Void decks as well because i wanted to take advantage of Deeds too and gave up perhaps too prematurely on the idea. I notice four Negators main and no Shades which I find interesting and the addition of Mongeese. I would love to talk yo this guy about his choices.

1st, Arthur Lindemans

Main Deck

7 Swamp
4 Llanowar Wastes
4 Cabal Coffers
3 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Necropotence
3 Nether Void
4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Dark Ritual
4 Phyrexian Negator
4 Hypnotic Specter
3 Blurred Mongoose
2 Powder Keg
4 Pernicious Deed
4 Sinkhole
3 Hypnotic Specter

Sideboard

2 Scragnoth
1 Vampiric Tutor
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Powder Keg
3 Choke
3 Emerald Charm
2 Crumble
2 Choke

I would love to hear others opinions on this deck... Especially you Zherbus as we tend to play the almost the same version (not Matt's).  Is this a Tier 1 deck?

Moved to the Vintage, Type 1 forum.  Seems more serious than casual.

I just find it interesting that anybody that owns Sinks, Voids, and Power can't find 4 Bayous, at least on loan.

The deck has a seriously low amount of Swamps for 4 Cabal Coffers, as well as a low amount of green (6, including Lotus) for 7 maindeck spells and the 10 sideboard cards.  Along with that mana issue, I question not playing 4 Wastelands.  I'd think you could cut 2 critters for a Waste (up to 27 mana) and the 4th Hypnotic.

Who knows...

4 Hypnotic Specter
3 Blurred Mongoose
2 Powder Keg
4 Pernicious Deed
4 Sinkhole
3 Hypnotic Specter

Hmmm, is that 7 Hypnotic Specters?  Perhaps one set of these is the missing Shades?

Well first off, Mono-black is definetly the way to go. He made real interesting use of the green that was splashed for, however. This deck is also 63 cards...wtf?

If I was to splash green I would run Nantuko Shade still. This card is too good to ignore. Mongoose is ass in my opinion. Shade can at least double as creature control.

I'd also work Compost into the SB.

His mana base is interesting. 4 Coffers? I really hate this card since it takes Void from being good during the first few turns and makes it a later game deck...so...you basically take a deck thats good against control and 'ok' against aggro (splashed green version that is; You get worse since you are now more afraid of wasteland) and make it WORSE against control without really improving its game against aggro.

Makes NO sense.

The absense of 4 Bayous is more appauling than the fact that it added green. 3 Wastes? THAT should tip you off about how that metagame is.

Whoever doesn't run Sol Ring in Void is severly missing out. It makes the deck THAT much more broken. A first turn Void using a Sol Ring can be absolute murder on aggro. Aggro runs less mana than you, so it'll be a while before they catch up.

My opinion and experience, which is ultimately extensive, is this: Mono-Black.

Play it like suicide, but use it to a better purpose against aggro with your kegs in the first few turns. Drop a void to seal your lead once you've exhausted your resources.

This deck should be just like suicide with Mishra's substituting 4 critters. It can use necro, unlike many suicide builds as an 'I win' card. You use the voids to seal the lead you generate during 'the storm' (a term I've coined for the first few turns where you kick ass with discard and LD). Suicide can run out of steam if its barrage wasnt enough unless it draws Will.

Void runs Will, Necro, and 3 Voids to overcome this.

Anyways, to answer your question. I think this deck is anus. Not just anus, but anus that someone hasnt wiped in quite sometime. It won in his metagame, so he obviously did something right. So props to him....

Here is my current Void:
Devil's Bile, by Zherbus

Creatures (12)
4 Nantuko Shades
4 Hypnotic Specters
4 Mishra's Factory

Disruption (15)
4 Sinkhole
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Duress
3 Nether Void

Removal (3)
3 Powder Kegs

Broken(4)
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoths Will
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Necropotence

Mana (26)(30 w/Mishra's)
4 Dark Rituals
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Jet
14 Swamp\n\n

I'm just curious as to what your Sideboard is, Steve?  My apologies if its posted in that (long lost, I'm lazy) post about Mono-B in general.

At the moment, though it'll probably change:

1 Powder Keg
2 Dystopia
4 Spinning Darkness
3 Phyrexian Negator
2 Diabolic Edict
3 Masticore

Could you give a brief overview of how to side against, say, Mono-U, Keeper, and Sligh?  I can see the basic strategy of each, but not really what to take out.  My guess is:

Sligh:
-4 Duress
-1 Will
-1 Necro
-1 Consult (or is this too important in finding Void?)
+4 Spinning Darkness
+1 Keg
+2 Masticore

Keeper:
- ? ??
+ ? Negators ?

Mono-U:
-3 Sinkholes
+3 Negators

I'm just kind of confused, as the deck seems really tight, and you seem to be slightly more pre-sideboarded against aggro, minus a few tweaks.  Against control, you seem to be rather empty (as is Suicide, when it comes to SB'ing unless Null Rods aren't main), unless you add in more critters (taking out either Voids or Mishra's for Suicide critters, which then defeats the purpose of playing Void in the first place).  Just curious.

Sligh
+1 Keg
+4 Spinning
-4 Duress
-1 Necro

Nothing else in your deck needs to be cut, and yes the consult is GOLD here.

Stompy
-2 Kegs (they will side in Null Rods)
+2 Dystopia
Maybe -4 Duress,+ 3 Masticore +1 Keg (assuming no Rod)

Control

I do well against automatically.

I cant give an exact without seeing what KIND of keeper Im facing. Probably Dystopia/Negator/Keg mixture.

OSE...usual build.
-2 Kegs (only a few Moxen, not much for 1cc perms)
+2 Edicts

Mono-blue is typically:
-4 Shades
+1 Keg
+3 Negators

Sinkhole is too good, as you usually duress misd's away.

Seriously, my Void has no real BAD matchups outside Stacker2 (Both this and Funker can give me fits and I've thought of 3 Null Rods in the SB in place of Negators...or something), which is rare. Thats a pretty bold statement, I know, but hell...I need to come to CT and play you.

As you know my void deck is quite similar to yours. I also tried the Deeds version and did not like it. I use the identical creature base you do now. I have a slightly different sideboard though. I forgo Negators for pump knights and use three dystopias.
I copied the list as written but the three Hyppies must be the extra cards. Interestingly enough a Mask (similar to CFs) was second and a Zoo deck took third. There was a Keeper in top eight.
BTW, I'm playing Curious Fish again which i think is the best aggro deck around.

Yeah, through Legend like means I have spread my version of Nether Void throughout the masses to ensure noone plays suboptimal versions. I seem to remember you coming around to a similar version roughly when I did.

Argh, I'm not sure if you want to bring Void to CT.  Hehe, I lost in the finals to a mono-Brown Tubbies deck, and didn't win that Beta Emerald.  I played the same guy (slight changes to the deck) earlier at NG NYC, beat him 2-1, but he beat Legend playing Legend Black.  It is indeed a tough matchup, even for OSE!

The guy (aptly named Guy, at that) is from Long Island, though, so I doubt he'll show up all that often.  Either way, I'm in the process of re-procurring Sinkholes and getting 3 more Shades, so I can at least play Suicide until I get Voids (should I decide that route).  I used to play Void, had horrible luck with the mana, but think that Shade is the perfect answer (along with the fact that I was playing it under direction of Matt D, and yes, I have witnessed firsthand how horrible the concept of Void as a land destruction deck is...my deck was far superior before I ever even proxied an actual Nether Void!  I used to find that Negator sucked against aggro, but Pump Knights only really worked if you got flooded and thus had mana to spare to pump him and give him first strike to block.  Regardless, its a fun deck when it works.
