Hey all
been playing Parfait for the past few weeks. I'd just like to share some testing notes I came up with, and perhaps get some help as to the sideboard configuration.
Without further ado, here's my build :
Deck Parfait, Magimaster(unpowered) -
Creature Control 4x Swords to Plowshares 1x Balance 2x Wrath of God 1x Story Circle 2x Humility
Utility 1x Enlightened Tutor 3x Orim's Chant 4x Argivian Find 3x Seal of Cleansing 1x Aura of Silence 1x Claws of Gix 1x Zuran Orb 1x Tormod's Crypt 1x Feldon's Cane 1x Powder Keg
Broken Spells & Bombs 1x Blood Moon 2x Replenish 2x Sacred Mesa
Engine 3x Scroll Rack 4x Land Tax
Land/Mana 1x Lotus Petal 1x Mox Diamond 1x Sol Ring 1x Marble Diamond 1x Wasteland 1x Strip Mine 1x Serra's Sanctum 1x Mountain 13x Plains
SB:// 1x Orim's Chant 2x Replenish 2x Karmic Justice 2x Thran Lens 2x Blood Moon 2x Tormod's Crypt 4x OPEN (more enchantment/artifact kill, and perhaps some other stuff)
Some cards I have been considering for those last open SB slots : Ivory Mask Pariah Ivory Tower Planar Birth Grindstone Aura of Silence/Cleansing Meditation/Abolish
Anyhoo...I'd better explain some choices in my deck. I was just comparing this to K-Run's latest build, and it's radically different!
In terms of creature control cards, we're pretty much the same. I don't use Ivory Towers main anymore, they're just chaff usually and lifegain is not enough! I've been using Powder Keg lately. Now, some people don't like using this card, but I've found that a Keg for 1 is pretty safe (Sol Ring and Cane being your only targets) and Keg for 1 is pretty good against a lot of decks. The fact that you can recur this thing up to 4 times a game is just nuts. Also, Keg helps out in the mana-denial section, nailing Moxen. Finally, Keg is invaluable against Academy. From the times I've actually used it, it's been good to me.
Also, I've upped the Seals and lowered the Aura's. Aura's are just butt slow. Seals can come out faster. Claws are slow too, but they are necessary. I've kept 1 Claw/1 Zorb configuration for now. They are my only sources of life gain, aside from plowing my ponies.
In terms of recursion, I've found that Digger is just slow. That's been my main issue with Deck Parfait, it's SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!!! Unbreakable, but slow. Digger is just clunky, and it's often not the best turn 2 drop. I hate seeing it in my opening hand, because I know it's not gonna make a difference till late late late game. I've been using Feldon's Cane instead, and it's pretty good. It costs only 1 to reset your library basically. The thing I like is that it recurs all your business spells as well, especially after you've played most of your lands, because then almost all your tax/rax are gonna be filled with goodness. Replenish's are awesome as well. I don't want to go lower than 2, cuz then it gets a bit risky trying to get it.
For the mana part, the only difference (aside from the being unpowered part) is that I've cut down 2 Wastelands. I just needed room. Parfait isn't so much a disruption deck as it is a huge boulder unmovable object deck. The only lands I'm scared about are LoA, opposing Sanctums, and the odd manland. Otherwise, I see Wastes as just lands that don't produce W. I'm trying to fit another one in though..but I don't know what to take out.
In the sideboard part...I tried to address these major concerns :
2x Thran Lens (Random White Hate like Washout, Gloom, Havoc etc.) 2x Karmic Justice (Pernicious Deed! Cleansing Med, Anarchy etc.) 2x Blood Moon (Control) 2x Tormod's Crypt (Control, Combo, various other things) 1x Orim's Chant (Control, Combo) 2x Replenish (Control)
leaving 4 open slots. I'm thinking of cutting down the Replenish's and Thran Lens by 1 each, which would leave me with 6 open slots. Pariah gets a slot for sure, it's been good to me, but what else? I'm thinking some Ivory Tower tech to combat that brutally efficient Neo-Goblin Sligh deck. Also, I'd like some more artifact/enchantment kill. 1 Cleansing Meditation for sure, as KandyKid just built an Enchantress deck, but I'd like something that can perhaps get me out of a lock. Abolish does that nicely, and it's also good at nailing early artifact fat, or an early enchantment. I've been having issues lately though about chucking plains etc. so I'm not sure what to include. I would consider Aura Fracture, but I'm looking for that fast enchantment/artifact kill.
Anyhoo, that's my main problems so far. I'd like to get more Wastelands main, what should I take out. I know someone is going to suggest Seal, but enchantment/artifact kill is just becoming more and more important nowadays, often 3 sources main isn't enough. Sure, once you've got it, then you can A.Find/Replenish that thing up the wazoo, but the thing is actually finding it first.
I'm also unhappy with Humility. It just doesn't shut down weenie decks very well. I'm thinking of going into a 1 Moat/1 Humility configuration.
Finally, about the sideboard. What would YOU put into those last 4 (potentially 6) slots? What would you suggest in terms of that fast arti/enchantment kill I'm so desperately looking for?
If there's any other glaring critiques about the maindeck, pls feel free to post them. I welcome all criticism.
