The Complete MUD Primer, Part 1: Development
by Arthur Tindemans

Quote
Quote This work features everything about my pet deck, Mud - its development; its former decklists; its tested cards; its results; its creators; how the metagame changed during Mud's first year of its lifetime; how Mud works; and a look at its future. Also, Mud is compared to WelderMud. A list of every card tested in Mud (or even thought of) is included. Everything is found right here in this article.

Edit: Part 2 is up!

LMAO.

Arthur has been complaining the last few weeks about the Ferrett's inability to get his article up.

Apparently Arthur Broke the Ferrett.

The first part was fantistic, I'm looking forward to the rest of the deck.

I have to be honest, I hate this style of deck, but with quality articles like this you get a better understanding of how the deck works and how better to defeat it.

Nice article. I especially liked your reasons for the many, many cards that you tried and eventually didn't make the cut.

When's the next one going up? Hope it's tomorrow.

Congratulations, Arthur, it's a great article.  Oh, and congratulations on finally getting it posted (or at least, getting the first part of it posted).  You should be a safe bet to win the $50!

Well, if this continues into next week, he could win it twice.

I have seen similar decks running upwards of 30 mana sources (32 was the highest I have see)

If you do not consider Workers as mana (which I would not, since virtually every creature kill and direct damage spell kills it, and has no haste) do you ever feel that 26 mana is the right number?

I have only played vs this deck (never with it) online.

It always seemed to do fine on mana, but since I have only played against it online, and since I refuse to trust electronic shuffelers as an accurate representation of real life shuffeling.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks, and GREAT article!

well as said, since the deck was made and accepted using Apprentice, as for of electronic shuffling it's okey.

now as said in the beginning of the article, Koen and I reached respectively second and first place in the Ntherlands with it on the DCI ranking list, so I would say it is the right number. you'll get to see more impressive results in part three of four.

don't doubt it, crown it.
We just play all abusable mana sources and a weight off number of lands, and it just works apparently. Stax can play more mana sources because it also needs colors, and can play (and does) like Lotus Petal. Grim Monolith is a possibility always as well. however, if I would add more mana sources to Mud, I would take out mana sources, probably in the form of lands.
so I would say, yes, we play the correct number of lands.
also, play with the metalworker before judging. off course, any mana source can be destroyed/countered, but once it comes through metalworker is often the best mana source available in the deck, especially on turn two.

It keeps taking too much time, but part 3 is up:

http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=5975

I think the most interesting part will be 4 actually...
this will contain everything about weldermud, and the future about Mud, and possible splashes, and whatever.

For people disbelieving the qualities of Mud for the last half a year, take a look at the results at the end of part 3.
