I run a proxy type 1 tournament once or twice a month, half of the time giving away a piece of power. I do this mainly as a way to play with my own power without having to drive 3 hours. Many people who show up have completely proxied power sets, others show up fully power with real cards like myself. On occasion some guys will show up with a mixed set of real and fake. It doesn’t matter to me, as I personally think that if someone dies to me because I own $1000 worth of artifacts and blue cards and they don’t we haven’t play to the fullest of abilites.

Usually the meta-game is mainly aggro, but lately its mutated into ‘Morphling Fetish 2002.’ I played only a even 50/50 split of aggro and control.

Round 1 (Kevin playing 5cControl)
I topdecked like Queen Latifah, and laid beatings like a nun with a ruler. I mised my super savage swinging man, morphling, and smashed face.

Just kidding, I hate reports that abuse magic slang like its gonna get them laid if they use enough of it.

Real Report (Kevin playing 5cControl)
Game 1 – He went first, and I played Library of Alexandra. It drew an extra card all game long as he never said either of his 2 wastelands or his strip mine.

Game 2 – This game was started with some counter wars, ending in me tutoring a lot and finally getting a sylvan into play. Through the course of the game I drew 4 cards total off the Sylvan Learning Center and after one 5/1 slapping him in the face, I timewalked. Attacked for 5 once more, regrowth on the time walk. Attacked again for 5, and revealed a yawgmoths will with 2 Force of Wills, and a Mana Drain.

Round 2 (Pat playing Tubbies/Stacker2)
His deck was a little strange. No Bloodmoon, due to the abundance of Mono-colored decks and no Winter Orbs. He had Covetous Dragon in its spot, strange but it worked. Sort of. Pat is in my play group and has been for years. I give him advise and he usually doesn’t take it unless it regards mana balancing. He usually ends up regretting the descision and promises to listen next time. PLAY ORBS PAT! Um, how about some more big creatures? Um, how about some toilet paper to clean up the shit that just dribbled from your lips?

Game 1 – He goes on his first turn – Mountain, mox, mox, lotus, covetous, and throws a bolt at me. I’m at 17. I play a land. He untaps, plays a mountain and swings for 6, followed by 2 more bolts. I’m in pain. I untap, and balance forcing myself to ditch 2 lands from my hand as he only had one card in hand. Su-Chi comes out soon, and kills me.

Game 2 – He jumps on the start block quickly again and this time it’s a turn 1 Su-Chi. I take 4 from Su-Chi and 6 more red instant damage before I throw a Moat into play. Soon after Covetous is cast and is Mana Drained. This mana drain funds a hufge Yawgmoth’s will in which 2 tutors from the graveyard fetch Zuran Orb and Morphling. Next turn morphling hits and knocks him down to 0 in a few short turns.

Game 3 – I’m holding a moat. I could cast it, but unfortunately he has gotten me down to 4 before I stabilized, and taking City Damage probably wouldn’t be wise. Morphling and a welder are in play. I attack, he takes 4. He untaps, lays a mountain, and attacks with the welder!!! Critical mistake as he has dead moxen in play and a masticore in the grave. Anyways, I untap morphling and block the welder. He lets it die, seemingly upset that last point of damage didn’t go through. Zuran Orb and COP:Red come out soon and he concedes revealing a lightning bolt.

Round 3 (Steven playing some deck with Morphlings, Counterspells, and back to basics)

Game 1 – I have way too much mana, and I’ve exhausted his counterspell supply and he hasn’t been able to refill. Morphling lands and kills him fast with the aid of timewalk.

Game 2 – BACK TO BASICS?!?! Just kidding, I force of Willed it and he had no other backup answer after I drained his FoW and proceeded to sink it into a giant stroke. He had 2 Morphlings out but I never sided abyss out. He was extremely mana light after shaman ate his moxen and I wasted a few tapped wastes. 2 Morphlings with very little free mana does NOTHING! His last effort was to cast the top decked Fact of Fiction he drew and I just let it go. I gave him a split where he chose a lot of mana over an ancestral. Still too late. You are the weakest control deck, goodbye.

TOP 4 (Jin playing some deck with counterspells, moxen, and quirion dryad.)

Game 1 - I wasteland some key lands, leaving him screwed. Morphling causes some groans from onlookers and my opponent.

Game 2 – Abyss hits after I win a counter war over a 4 pt Braingeyser that was funded by the United Foundation of Mana Draining. I watch creatures beg for salvation but the abyss just pulls them in.

FINALS (Pat playing a pile of red and artifact cards, who didn’t listen to my advise on Orb)

I was hosting the tournament, and I set rules against myself winning such things. I concede.

Not yet...I'm working on it though!!!

Cid, My keeper looks so generic because this is frankly the best build for an unknown metagame. One week its all combo, then all aggro, now everyone thinks that they want to counter things.

If i had predictions, I'd specialize my keeper. Like when I go somewhere more aggro, I'll run more removal. Etc.

From the depths of the archive I ressurect the!!!!!! got bored, so I was looking as far back as the post went... BTW nice report.

Zherbus:

When you do the proxy power card tourneys, do you get a shop to have them organized, or just do them out of your home?

I have an extra timetwister, and wouldn't mind doing a proxy tourney, but am unsure what would be the best way to do it.

Thanks buddy.

The local card shop owner is like an uncle to me. He lets me hold any event I want, whenever I want.

Basically my system is a very good one at the moment. I take something I have that might either be Unlimited, or that I cant increase somehow and put up my old card. This weekend, since I just got my ruby beta'd Im giving away my UL one.

@ Boa : The wastelands have been foil for some time now. I even got a few fbb merchant scrolls recently.

Freddie:

In response to your idea to holding one, may I suggest your public library.

Free board room/place most likely.
