Hi! I'm writing this as I got back from the 8 hour drive to Origins this weekend.  I went to 2 of the type 1 tournies playing Keeper(I skipped the 3rd for AmChamps).

Smmmennmmenemen, DemiGod, Deranged Parrot(Didn't play T1) and one other I forgot(I played him in the 5th round Friday i believe).

I played a fairly standard version of keeper with a Cunning Wish and Scrying Glass MD(Replacing a StoP and Geyser).  The Cunning Wish was amazing helping me win multiple times(I wished for Shattering Pulse - 1R Instant Destroy target artifact buyback 3 against Stacker and Mask.. It was fairly rough for them )  I lost to 2 mono blue decks, one played by someone I can't remember well and the other played by none other than the Patriarch of Prohibit(Wink) Stephen Menendian.  I wasn't able to win a game vs either.  I played Stephen's friend Paul who was playing a very tight U/B mask deck with Mishra's Factory.  I won by wasting his only land when he ritualed out a mask with 3 dreadnaughts in hand.  I won b4 he drew another source ;(.  I wished for Shattering Pulse to seal the game.

All in all, fun weekend, high powered environment, and overpriced food ;\.  I'd write a real report, but my mind is trashed from being up so late .

Interesting weekend, to say the least it might have been a bit disappointing for me. I dropped out of the classic after going 0-1-1 with my Keeper. My first match was against a R/G deck plenty of speed and I couldn't tutor for the Abyss or Balance either game. The second was against a well built Mono-Black deck which I lost the first and won the second even after taking out my lotus. I was into the third and time was called. I would have won had the time been available.  I did get into 2 other Classics after finding a replacement for my lotus. I finished 8th out of 21 and 1st in another Classic. The last classic was rather small though.

CrazyCarl,

I'm the guy who emailed you about getting up non-sanctioned trounaments on Friday.  My guess is that fell through?  Anyway, this is my first post here

I got 12th place on Friday, faired better with 8th on Saturday, and "cleaned up" with a 2nd place on Sunday (ok, ok.  Sunday it was a 4 player tournament.).  You probably saw me-- I was running the only Turboland deck there (completely without power).  I had a blast.  I'm going to submit a full tournament report article to The Tome in the next couple days.

Ah! I remember you, you SMASHED me game 2 in our match.  I think that was due to a SB error on my part(Only sided in one REB).  Yeah, I sorta tried to get something set up, but I ended up eating out with friends every night   .  I had alot of fun myself and I'm looking foward to next year   .

Wow, I bet they were pretty scared each time you took out their "enchantments"

Hey Carl,

I was also at origins this year.  But i didnt participate in any type 1 tournaments.  But a friend of mine did.  He was playing the weird black green void deck with blurred mongoose and abyss.  Btw how did you do in AmChamps.  I did horribly with r/g beats. 3-3 drop.  Me and my friend are also looking for type 1 tournaments in New Jersey cause we will drive up and play in them.  Just need to find out where they are.LMK through post or email me at HellKite85@hotmail.com. Thanx

Bastian: Silence you

ChopSui: I went 5-2 at AmChamps, realized type 2 is a retarded format, and dropped.  My deck was kinda fun, but it couldn't beat Oppo and I felt i'd end up playing vs that the rest of the day ;(

As for New Jersey tournies, I have no idea what they're about, but we run tournaments in Binghamton, NY every weekend(Saturday 1PM) and they're alot of fun, if you feel like making the trek, i'm sure we could hold up for you.

Hey Soup I played against you on Sunday. I was playing the Keeper deck. Good games against you. Very nice deck and gives Keeper a run even without power. Let us know when you've submited your report I'd be interested in reading it.

I am glad that you had fun.

I WAS going to go to Origins, but the plans just didn't work out at the end.

Anyways though, I am glad that you guys had fun. What kind of decks were the most popular?

Hm, i'd estimate 5-6 hours, but that could be a bit much.

The most popular deck?  I don't think there was a most popular deck .  Quite a few keeper decks, Stokinger played Grow, I don't know how he did though.  Some mono blue, some stacker, a mask, a g/b void, some sligh etc.

Huh.  I didn't realize we played   I tried to keep an eye out for opponents named "Carl."  I guess I did a poor job.  Which day did we play?  What deck were you running?  After awhile all the matches sort of blur together.

And Demi God, if that Multani's Presence would have worked out, I would have died laughing.  Although a Timetwister would have worked, too.  Oh, well.  Tough match, well played on both sides.

I saw the stacker with a green splash. I saw another stacker 2 that was straight red. It was at the Midnight classic on saturday. I saw a mono-black deck almost sucide. There was R/G, mono-blue decks, Tolarian Combo, Turboland, High Tide, Keeper, and Stompy. Those are the decks I saw, The only one I didn't play against was Combo.

Ah, that reminds me, there was Trix, the Academy you mentioned(He played mono U the rest of the weekend after thursday).  So combo was well represented.

SoupBoy: We played Friday in I believe the 7th round.  I was the Keeper player who Cunning Wished for Shattering Pulse ;P

What a beating that card is.

I'm playing in a T1 tonight and i'll post in the forum about how good/bad it was.

Ha!

You see, in Germany everyone plays Stacker and everyone splashes green into Stacker for SotF.

> Why Stacker 2 and no Keeper in germany?

Looking at the Top 3 results over the last year or so I do see Keeper a couple of times, but not near as much as Workshop decks (which I always called Tubbies after Dave Prices Invitational deck.)

I'm going to take Survival Tubbies to FNM this week and see how it does.  Its supposed to be a beating in an unprepared field, but I'm susprised that people dont seem to have metagamed against it in Germany.

One thought about Keeper vs Survival Tubbies is that Keeper expects to control creatures with Abyss and Balance; that a lot of popular variations have cut back on both Disenchants and StPs.  The Abyss is useless against the Tubbies beatdown creatures, and maindeck Blood Moon cant be good either; thats pretty much a scoop for the Keeper player.  But I'm still not clear on why German Keepers havent adapted more.

Just for public refrence, this deck was named "Mexican Christmas" over a year and a half ago by Manic, a former BDer.  As I remember it, it had the immigrant workers (Welders), the presents (Juggie) and the Christmas Tree (Survival).  Really a fun deck to play around with.
