Ok, this is in general to the players in my region:

Mainly directed at the core group of guys (The Upstate NY crew - Carl, Bryce, Jason, and Rob, and the Connecticut Crew - Eric, BigChuck, WitchetSnatcher, Ctthespian...and of course you too, Andrew "LoA", CooberP, and Redman).

When is good?

So far I hear Christmas Break is good for some. Mid Dec. is better for others, etc. I'm wide open as I have every other week off.

Also, if you want, I can try to steal one of my parents houses if you wanna stay up here like we did the last time. My apartment could do if only like 4 guys came but I'm aiming for more than that.

About the Tournament:

Date - Unknown at the moment. - Fix this. It will likely be on a sunday, but this isn't set in stone though it is the best time.

Place - Concord Card and Collectables on the corner of South State and Downing in Concord, NH. (Those coming from the south can take I-93 almost right to it)

Admission - 10 Bucks.

Prize - First place is a UL Sapphire. Second Place IS depending on entries (I'm running this out of my pocket here, the store just lets me use his play space). Prizes usually are nice. In the past, in successful tournaments, I have given an Abyss, 2 Mox Rubies, a Mox Pearl, and in the smaller 5 dollar tournaments I have given 'neat' playsets of things away like 4 Beta Sinkholes, 4 AQ Factories, etc.

Format - Type 1 of course. I allow Proxies of P10, as it helps level the playing field. I'd do it differently but the shop likes selling cards. Wink

So anyways. If your from the area, pipe up!

I really want to hear what the CT and NY, especially, crew have to say.

Christmas break is fine with me, though i'd check with Jason or Bryce(seeing as they're the ones that actually drive Razz)

I'll do my best to borrow something that will give people a good fight Razz.

Correction, I do not drive. My license is suspended, remember? Fucking DMV...

Just about any time/day is good for me though.

Carl, if you need to borrow anything you know I've got tons of stuff for loaning purposes (minus the Hype components of course).

As long as some of the rest of the CT crew are going I'll most definitely be there. But I'm not the person to talk to, as I don't drive. If you do this at some point when Eric's home, then I can pretty much guarentee our showing up, otherwise, I would probably talk to Wicketsnatcher, or ctthespian.

Hmmm....

How long of a hike is the shop from Springfield, Mass?  Because thats where my sister currently lives, and if theres a large turn out expected and its not that long of a ride, I don't see why I can't spend a couple of days at my sis' apartment and try to attend the tournament.

Thought I'm not great with directions, I've been told it takes about 2.5 hours from Hartford, and Springfield would probably be a good 45 minutes closer, but Steve would probably know better then I

Well I can't make any promises as I don't know what my living situation will be over the next few months. I DO know that anything around Christmas is definately out as I always make a trip home to Michigan to visit with the family around the holidays.

So... Christmas break is out for me.

I am going to go out on a limb here and promise that I will be there.  Thanksgiving or Christmas break won't make a differance, as long as it doesn't start before 10:am, cause I think the trip from North Jersey is like 5 or 6 hours (course this is estimated by the amount of time it took me to get to UMASS when I attended there), and all this is dependant on whether or not the prerequisite 5 feet of snow will be on the ground).
So as long as it doesn't start toooo early I will be there and I might get some of the NJ crew to come with.

If the schedule works out for Sam and I,
I could drive and bring up to 6 more people,
anybody who can get to Northampton, MA.

At the moment, Dec 1, 22 & 29 are all open.
My work's a little unpredicatable, though.

Niceness.

I would love to go to that if I could get a ride. And if you're in a hurry to fill up those 6 seats, I have several friends.

I'm liking december 22, as it would be during the break. If we actually drive up that day, i would prefer the start time later, but if we did the whole staying @ your place the night before thing, then it wouldnt matter.

Any of those dates would be good for me.  And the start time of 12 or 1 will be great but 1 might be better than 12.

Also I know where Concord is because when attending UMASS we would go into NH because beer has no tax there.

hooray for Beer

Zherb, you'd probably get a much bigger turnout if you had it at Your Move Games in Boston--I've called them and they said if we could guarantee 8 people they'd run a sanctioned T1.  You couldn't use proxies, but it could be a big tourney for the entire New England/NY metagame if properly publicized far enough in advance.

I could make it to boston pretty easily, but I can't get much farther away from Waltham then that.

Does YMG have sanctioned T1s often?

Same here.  If its moved to Boston, my chances to attend are greatly increased.

In the 3 years I lived in Waltham/Somerville, YMG never had a sanctioned Type 1 to my knowledge.  I think I played in 2 local tournaments there total.

Although I'm probably the second most biased person on these boards when in comes to having the tournament in Concord, NH, I'll try to be objective here.

I can get to Davis Square fine, but if you've never driven into Boston before, this isn't really the best place to start unless you want to start taking the T (which would be easy, but slow and would cost you $2).  Driving in Boston, and Cambridge/Somerville in particular, can be a learning experience.

Although Steve organizes all these things, the guy who runs the shop is really nice and actually gives you breaks on card prices.  He's got a beta black lotus in his personal binder and plays with cards like Untaro Bee Sting.  Alright, maybe that is being a bit bias...

When you take into account the driving into Boston time (and woe be to you if there's traffic inside the 128 belt), it's really not all that much longer to shoot up 93 or 293 to Concord.  I wish that wasn't the case.  I've spent the last 10 years of my life travelling between some combination of Hartford, Boston, and Concord.  I've learned not to equate distance with time.

Steve is organizing the entire damn thing!  I might be a little out of line here, but he gets the prize(s) and does these things to support the community.  He even conceeds in the finals out of the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship--let's not start making demands (I understand previous posters were expressing preference, but I wanted to stop the slope before it got slippery).  It makes sense to me that he get to pick the locale.

I'd love to be able to come up.  However, I work till like 11am on Sundays and the earliest I'd be able t make it for sure would be like 2pm.  If a Saturday would be at all possible I would be able to make it much easier.  Other than that the only other possiblity may be Jan 5th, I may not have to work that Sunday.

Unfortunately, I don't get a winter break because I'm a LOSER and have a full time job.  Because of this, a 3½ hour drive back home on a Sunday evening isn't terribly appealing.

But then again, I'm stupid and do stupid things when it comes to playing magic.  Any Sunday would be just as good/bad as the next for me, so I've got no opinion.

Ok, lets try this:

Sunday, December 8th. 12, 1, or 2 PM (?)

This of course would hopefully compliment saturday the 7th for the YMG tourny.

According to my computer, the 8th is a sunday.

EDIT: When I go back, it makes sense that you just meant to put sunday (given you also said the 7th was a saturday).

No chance of the winter break thing? If its not winter break, then the likelihood of the whole chilling at your house thing goes way down, as does the likelihood of me making it.

Yeah, my tournament is to be on a sunday, while it hopes to compliment the tournament CooberP is having at YMG. That would hopefully be the saturday beforehand if held on the same weekend.
