This is the official information thread for the tournament. It will also be used to track attendance and hopefully let people carpool and find rides. Please use PM for questions and contacts to keep this thread clean.

Updates:
(Feb 28) Make sure you have read this.

(Feb 05) Just a reminder. If you preregister with Altered States, make sure you ask for a receipt and hold onto it. Also, when sending me the cash via PayPal, make sure you include your full name so I can verify you via ID at the actual tournament. I don't want fifteen people claiming to be Zherbus saying they already payed me. Also, check to make sure that I added your name to this thread as it will be your only proof to the public that you payed.

Well as the one who started these shanaigans back in October I damn well better say...

Wild fucking horses and a pack of cracked out monkies couldn't keep me from attending this Shiznat.  And you can count on two other members of my crew, disrupting sPECtor and U-factor, the restricted.

Sorry about replying here I couldn't help myself \n\n

The following is the information I received from Diablos8 when asking him about places to stay in Syracuse:

I'd say the Holiday Inn is the best hotel choice in this area. It's the nicest hotel around. Here's the stuff about it(this is just for any random date):

1 Night, 1-4 Person, 1 Room-
Smoking or Non-smoking
1 Bed or 2 Double Beds
$89.00

Here's the address in case you guys want it:

Holiday Inn
6555 Old Collamer Road South
SYRACUSE, NY 13057
UNITED STATES

If you want more info on the Holiday Inn, you can go to www.holidayinn.com or call them:

Local Phone: 1-315-4372761
Reservations: 1-800-431-2761

hope I've been of some help.

For those that would like to pay the pre-registration fee because you know for sure that you will be coming, here is the information.

The pre-registration fee is $15.
Disclaimer: This fee is non-refundable except under extreme cirumstances. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to guarantee the prizes for the tournament.

The easiest way to pay me is to send the money using PayPal. Send the $15 to jstapels(AT)stny(DOT)rr(DOT)com (but no credit cards). Make sure to include your full name and your TMD account if you have one.

If you want to pay using a Money Order then send me a PM and I'll give you my address.

Edit: Pre-Registration Deadline is February 22nd.
Updated my email so it's spam-pr00fed.

Don't forget to pre-register kiddies.

We should probably have a list of people who have pre-registered once people start doing it.

Quote Leviat, can you take debit cards via paypal?
I don't think so, that would be the same as a credit card and my account will not let me unless I allow PayPal to start taking fees out (which I won't do because I'm a stingy bastard).

When is the Pre-register fee due by?? Also, I don't think i'll be able to pre-reg using paypal because my parents think the internet is evil and won't allow me to send money through it. Is there a different way I can pre-register?

Pre-registration will probably stop two weeks before the tournament.

If you don't have access to PayPal, then send me a private message and we will work out the details.

Yeah, I decided to hijack the tournament a little and finalize some of the information that's been kicking around for a bit. Here's the official info sent to Altered:

This hasn't been mentioned, and I know I usually worry about it, so I'll bring it up:

FOOD:
Altered States is next door to a GREAT(if pricey) Italian resturant(The Spaghetti Warehouse).  Cheaper alternatives include a variety of Delis, Chinese places and Pizzerias.  MOST of these places deliver, and Altered has a pay phone -in- the store, so it's really, really convenient(and a few attendees will likely have phones on them, so ordering won't be a problem).

That said, ya'll best be ready to bring it, less than a month is left till D-Day...

Just a reminder that you only have two days left to pre-register for the tournament. Make sure you send me the payment via PayPal (preferred) or get it in the mail ASAP.

I have only received nine pre-registrations (not including those who paid up in Syracuse) and I know a lot more people have assured me they will be there.

A couple of developments:

1) Pre-registration for Syracuse locals has been extended until March 1st because of some confusion with Altered States and their agreement to collect pre-registration fees. If you're an Altered States customer/Syracuse local, and you wanted to pre-register, then you've got another week to do it in so hunt down Allan and let him know (he no longer works for AS, but I deputized him to collect entry fees).

2) After it was brought to my attention that with the expected turnout, only those who go undefeated in the swiss will make Top 8, I'm seriously considering changing the plan to 5 rounds of swiss, cut to Top 16. This won't really change anything except to add another round onto the tournament (which won't cause any problems, since we'll have the time) and allow more people a shot at the big prizes.

Hi there.
Just got a couple questions about tolls...

1) about how much $$ do you think it would cost in tolls to get there from Niagara falls Canada?

2) what is the typical amount of a toll?  I mean, should I bring a bunch of quarters, or dollar bills, or what?

Thanks!

When I went to Canada from Binghamton (passing through Syracuse) it was about $8 in American money.

It depends on which bridge you take to get into the US. I find that I prefer to take the QEW as far as I can before getting into the states (so come in North of Buffalo rather than at Buffalo). I don't have a map in front of me, but I can tell you the way I come that seems to work the best for me. I drive from Binghamton to Michigan a lot so I'm pretty familiar with the drive.

*Looks on MapQuest and thinks really hard*

I would take the QEW as far as you can and take the Lewiston (I think that's the name) bridge. I believe the toll is $1.50US (You pay 75 cents twice). Then, hop on 190 and take that to 90E. Then take 90E all the way into Syracuse.

I would bring $10.00 just to be safe, but you'll probably spend a total of $2.00 in tolls each way.

Again, I wouldn't cross in Buffalo or Niagara Falls itself as it's a little more confusing and the border-patrol is more anal.

1) How do we pre-reg?
2) What kind of selection of singles is available?  I need to pick up a few random cards before the tourney.

Between the stock of cards at Altered and the mass of players that will be there, I think it's somewhat safe to assume everything and anything.

Is there anybody willing/able to give a ride from Rochester, NY?  I saw that there's somebody going from there, but I-90 is too far to the south for somebody coming from the west to just randomly pick me up.  PM me or catch me on AIM (tassilo27) if you can.
