Well, I would like to say that AxeMurder was a good opponent, he was very easygoing just like me, so we had a pleasant match despite the obviously unpleasant outcome for me. AxeMurder was a nice guy and he got the job done. I wish him luck the rest of the way. He was very gracious and tried to tell me that I had some bad luck, but I would have none of that. I never complain about luck, sometimes it goes your way, sometimes not. I had my fair share of good luck in the first round anyway. The bottom line is that he played well and earned the win.
Anyway, although Game 2 was close, I must say that overall he throttled me pretty soundly. I'm sure AxeMurder will have a few things to say about the match. In the meantime, here is my brief recap of the games:
GAME 1: I win the roll, but have to mulligan a no-land hand. I keep an ok hand of Jackal Pup, Scroll, some land, and a couple of Incinerates I believe. Nothing spectacular in this matchup, since it does not have a Wasteland, but I obviously can't mulligan again. AxeMurder has only a Tropical Island for a couple of turns. However, I could not come up with the Waste or Strip that we both agreed after the match would have won me the game. I get the Scroll active, but soon a couple of Werebears come out, and they have threshold thanks to a Sleight of Hand, followed by Black Lotus, Merchant Scroll, Ancestral, then some other stuff to fill up his grave. I get beaten up pretty badly, and AxeMurder ends up at thirteen life when the game ends.
GAME 2: I go first, and I have a good hand. First turn Cadet, second turn Ankh, third turn Wasteland and Scald, I believe. However, I do not win this game. What ends up happening is that I get him down to 1 life, but he uses a Werebear that has threshold (I am unable to kill it) and a Mox Sapphire to get around both the Scald and the Ankh (actually two, as another one later came down). He is able to cast Wild Mongrel, and another Werebear? I don't remember exactly, but in the end, I am not able to inflict the final point of damage, and that is that.\n\n
