Anyway...I like the dirrection the tourneys are headed...We are moving toward the 70 person mark with these things...and as I have told many people...any tourney that hits 70 people will be upgraded to having a BLACK LOTUS for first.

4.) Mike Roche (MIKE R)

Go A.D.D. All Star!!!

Is there any way you could post the t8 decklists? My friend who might start playing type 1 is interested in Oath and there was a good Oath (beat me and alex) that made t8.

I had tons of fun, more people should really come, we could really use the prize being a lotus  Everyone come! I think you say Ray that there's now going to be one every month? If so towards the end of the month like this? or what?

decklists would be nice, but at the least, decktypes would give us some flavor of what went down (i'm sure reports will be forthcoming).  were there any eat-off's?  i'd love to see ray inhale taco bell at someone else's expense.

i know there were at least two hadley'ers in the T8 (nick and dan), are those also ben and adam from our crew?

62, huh?  ray, did you use my idea for splitting em up?

c'mon people, for the sorry troglodytes who couldn't make it down to CT post some info!

1x Scrying Glass
2x Defense Grid
3x Necromancy

I didn't take many notes, so most will be from memory, sorry for any errors.

Round 1: Me vs. Fred playing B/g Sui?

Game 1: Ray announces that the Token prize for the round will go to whoever deals the most damage in one shot.  I think of Plan C in my sideboard and grin.  I take some pain from my delta's while setting up my combo.  Fred was the first person of the day, and not the last, to give me a dragon in hand after an intuition: caravan, dragon, dragon.  I take some beats from a factory while finishing to set up and go off with a Searing Touch for 'Infinite' damage.  Moobius also goes off within second I think a few tables over.

Game 2:  Fear the skull.  With none of my disruption in sight, my opponent busts out a early Necropotence and pump knight.  He comes in hard and fast with threats as I go, 18,17,15,0.  The Cadaverous Bloom showed this game explaining the green.

Game 3:  I think I bring in 2 more necromancy to help fight a possible planar void.  I set up a nice turn 2 kill with moxen and 1st turn buried alive, turn 2 Searing Touch again.

Round 2: Me vs Mike playing U/r Donate

Game 1: Ray announces the Token prize for the round for the 1st decking.  I start my set up not knowing what to expect yet and I again get a caravan off intuition: caravan, dragon, dragon.  I walk into a thwart, but have another animate handy, to go off with the Stroke.  After explaining the loop to my opponent, I then find out that someone else had managed to deck themselves with a Morality Shift on and empty graveyard!

Game 2: I bring in what I can from sideboard to help.  I try to set up but can't and he slows me down burning through his ice's.  He pops and illusions, donate and I'm done.

Game 3: We both start setting up.  I manage to get a grid out and have a mana crypt slowly eating away my life.  I'm trying to build up a hand with scrying glass, but he messes with the math with some AK's.  I finally get set up with 2 REB back up, but only 1 red source.  I know at this point he's holding some donate's capsize and misdirction.  This is where I screw it up big time.  I scrying glass and he flashes his hand, I only glance missing the force he had drawn.  I try and go for it.  He waits for me to stack the come into play then plays his capsize with grid mana, on my dragon tapping him out, I REB the capsize then he flashes the Force.  The crowd makes noises, someone comments how all my stuff is removed now, and I stupidly remove my permanents from the game and move on.  No land and a couple turns later he combo's me out.  Later that night thinking over the match I realize that even though the remove from game was on the stack, they hadn't left play at that point and my grid should have stopped the force.

Round 3: Me vs Ryan playing Ankh Sligh

Game 1: I get the combo rolling after leaking a mox monkey on his 1st turn.  I intuition and he gives me the dragon... and the game.

Game 2: He plays 1st turn strip, second turn waste.  Luckily I can cast things in response to his killing land, and am able to go off with artifact mana.  He then asks me if I was holding a leak and any point and I show the rest of my hand.  He had the turn 2 Ankh, but was afraid of the leak.  Phew.

Round 4: Me vs John playing... the mirror.

Game 1,2,3:  I know John from a local card shop and he had the same idea to go out with a band before April 1st.  Luckily my version is faster with the artifact mana and he runs his kill main deck and no caravan, a UBR version.  I find out that last round he won the fastest match price, minutes before me.  Payback time.  Game one, I go off 1st with 3 turns.  Game two, I tap out for a grid, with no leak in hand, and he goes off second turn, ghitu fire to my head.  Game three was only slightly slower, an early extract from John yanks one dragon, the later extract finds... the 2nd dragon in my hand, phew.  I keep my hand full, draw, discard the dragon and go off with necromancy end of my turn.

Round 5: Me vs Nick playing Pandeburst.

Game 1: I'm able to go off quickly and don't see enough of his deck other than the blue to know what he's playing at this point.  I side in my grids and REB's and extra Glass.

Game 2: We both start setting up, intuitions in response to intuitions and such.  He chooses correctly and puts the caravan in my hand.  I take a ping from a delta and he gets a replenish off sans Pandemonium.  I take 18 from the bursts, but am able to get off a wish>rushing river to live longer.  Another replenish does me in later.

Game 3: We go at it again, setting up, countering and disrupting each other.  Again he gets a replenish off with 2 bursts and no Pandemonium.  On my turn I have no wish, but an animate spell with just dragon in the yard, I whip out the fromage and get the draw.  We confirm that we play a game 4 with Ray, with about 3 mins left in the round.

Game 4: Heh.  We get a few turns in with no big plays, then time is called.  Nick gets the 1st extra turn, and steals the second with a time walk!  On the second extra turn he plays the Pandemonium from and earlier intuition.  Extra turn 3 nets me nothing and extra turn 4 I get smacked with a big fat replenish, burst for 42!

Round 6: Me vs Alex (Lord of the Goat) playing TNT of course.

Game 1: We are both 3-2 going into this we both ask each other if we want to concede.  We shuffle up to play.  I get some fast mana and he gets a fast tangle wire.  Luckily I am able to set up at instant speed and fetch the one necromancy with vampiric tutor in spite of the tangle wire.  He asks to see the kill card and we are on to game 2.

Game 2: He jokes about how he can bring in his whole SB against dragon, and I shudder.  He gets of a blood moon and I'm looking at two mountains, a sol ring, and off colored mox.  I top deck my lotus, with dragon and caravan in the yard, use the lotus for black and burn for about a thousand after he points out I have no blue for the caravan.  Ouch.  Shuffle time.

Game 3: Alex gets a strong start with survival and goes for the bouncer.  I go off on turn 2 before the bouncer is active.  Thinking back I might have mixed up games 1 and 3, help me out King o' the Goat...

All in all a great day.  I fun opponents, and was only threatened bodily harm once for playing dragon (with a Rook deck case, not box).  Props to Ray as always, and slops to that damn DCI reporter and my mirror match.

i've seen better days, but ADD all-star did well so i'm happy. i'll get a quick report on here i guess even though my performance was unspectacular. i didn't take any notes so if things are a little off just lmk. i'm playing r/g/u tnt with md tangle wires

round 1 vs jorlove
game 1- he opens with some mana, and i proceed in drping tangle wire to stunt him. it works and he stall on mana to buy me a full 3 turns, which i really needed since i didn't have much else. i get survival first even thogh he has ranger and a welder. he gets survival the turn after and the race is on. i have more preasure even though he gets collosus. i fetch wonder and fly over for the win.

game 2- i'm mana light but td a few lands.... unfortunatly that's about all i td and he easily wins.

game 3- basically i get survival first again and then eat his mox laden board with karn. jacob was a cool guy, and while he wasn't someone i wanted to see that early in the torney i'm glad i got to play against him.

round 2 vs sligh
this guy won a waterbury tournament once before, but he said he was a type 2 player so i was a bit confused.

game 1- i open with lotus, workshop (only land), sylvan and burn for 1. he plays wooded foothills and passes the turn. i use sylvan and see land, mox, survival and can't pass it up. i pay 8 then use a fetch which drops me to 10. he burns me eot, untaps drops lotus, ball lightning and burns me out... ouch, but at least i know he's got sligh.

game 2- i drop trisk and tangle wire, he scoops.

game 3- see game 2. tangle wire wrecks sligh like there's no tomorrow. every game that i've gotten one sligh hasn't gotten me below 10

round 3 vs b/g beats

game 1- i open with a su chi. he matches a turn later with ravenous baloth. i trade since i have 1 more chi in hand and a survival and untap a monolith. he duress's my survival which hurts a lot. over the next few turns he drops 2 more baloths and a monger which eats me.

game 2- he's land light which isn't good since his cs's start at 4. i run him over before he can recover.

game 3- i drop an early bouncer and then a core. he swings with a hippe and then twist's me hand neutralizing both. i'm in top deck mode but i get a welder in play so i'm coming back. i bounce the hippie a couple times and he tutors up a blastoderm:\ i mize a karn a turn later at 4 life. then i blow the match... his turn he pulls the second to last counter off the derm so i only need to block it once more after this turn. he swings, i chump with the bouncer, and hippie drops me to 2. i untap, cast monolith so i can weld in karn and block the derm. yes, i completely ingored the hippe. i realize a second too late. i should have gotten mana from the monolith and used it to ping off the hippie and then chupmed the  derm and gone on to abuse welder... oh well.

round 4 vs oath

game 1 he gets control and wins

game 2 i relsove a first turn lyrist and back it up with survival and start the abuse. he drops keg and i mess up and and cast trisk and weld it out for karn. i should have done it the other way to eat the keg but i suck. he wins from there, and he makes top 8

round 5 vs void

void has nothing on tnt. cool guy though

round 6 vs dragon

tnt has nothing on dragon, he messes up game 2 and generates infinite mana under bloodmoon with help of lotus and ends up with bbX in his pool with an areial caravan in play. it gave me hope for game 3. except i fucked up there too. i dropped a first turn survival, fetch bouncer and passed the turn. i should have got lyrist and cast it. oh well, he went off before i got another turn anyway. cool guy though.. i took some conosation in smashing his casual deck with my tnt but we both had fun

yeah, so breakfast and more sleep for me so i don't make anymore stupid plays. it was a great time either way

Very short report.
I played EBA trying 2 Mis D and an Orb in the sb taking out the thieves.

Round 1: I beat U/r fish played by Niel 2-1
Round 2: I beat Todd (Maligor CT) playing Infest combo (cool deck) 2-0
Round 3: I beat Jarad Demick (Wicketsnatcher) playing Rector Trix 2-1
Round 4: I beat Nick Axel (urza's child) playing Mask 2-0
I can now make T8 with two draws, unfortunately I play down so I have to play.
Round 5: I lose to Dan Richardson (penicious dude) playing a highly tuned build of U/r fish. Great deck, and EBA seems like it cant really handle this deck because I've lost to it both times we played 1-2.
Being the highest in tiebreakers of all the 12 pointers (by a hell of a lot) and being seed 4, I can draw in (becaus I play up). I think I should have played the matchup just so I could have played vs a tog deck, which is what my mission was that day.

In T8 I get paired vs oath
Game 1: We both forget how to play magic this game, I dunno what it is (nerves, being tired, or general stupidity). I pulled several "alright, ill play this" and then 1/2 a second later go "why the HELL did I just do that?". I think I choke when I go into elimination. He wins
Game 2: I duress, take Oath, play mage on Morphling (which I see). He plays Weaver, I swords it, he removes counters to save it from removal. I hit him to 4 with the mage, he plays hollistic wisdom. I hit him to 2. During his turn he removes morphling to take back Weaver and sacs two saclands to play it, and dies from them. Not that if he didnt sac them I wouldnt have attacked him down.
Game 3: Was me drawing one black source (the entire game, which was no quicky) and getting B2B played on my ass (and I can never tutor for the match deciding aura fracture). I had a planar void out so 1 black mana (which I lacked) with double counter backup (which I had) could have taken out his last win condition morphling with the chainers in my hand.

I put the blame for game three on bad luck. I could have played game one much better, but I think that could have easily been a game win for him anyway. Disappointing end, esspecially because I was the the only person in the T8 with a deck that has a very good matchup vs groatog, and has tested the matchup enough to know how to play it.

Groatog finals .

I didnt understand the complete lack of Keeper when it has been shown to be one of the few decks that can really keep Tog in check.

And thats the story of the 7th power tournament in a row where I choke in the T8 and dont get anything better than a fucking 3rd place prize.

Great tournament Ray.

This will be extremely short (I took notes, though, but I'm going to write up a longish report later).

Round 1: See Lord of the Goats's Report. One minor addition: Game 3: We are both at 20. I have Su-chi and 2x naturalize in hand, 3 mana on the board. He attacks with jugg and su-chi, I hit su-chi, going to 15 (he goes to 16). I TD Su-Chi. Next turn, he drops another Su-Chi (he discarded anger to a turn 1 ancestral to 8 cards) and attacks with it and the jugg. I go to 10, he goes to 12. I TD Su-Chi #3. He attacks with Jugg. I go to 5. I TD Su-Chi #4, and scoop.

Round 2: I beat a skullcap/bridge deck 2-0. interesting note: before game one, he asked "Is that deck exactly 60 cards?".

Round 3: I played Lou (Mailman), and lost 1-2. Games 2&3, he boarded in 15 cards vs me, and my hands weren't fast enough to compensate. Game 1, I delt 20 damage in one turn, which was cool, since he was at 20.

Round 4: I 2-0 a FEB deck after he gets truly awful draws.

Round 5: I lose to Moobius's Squirrelcraft 2-0. Ground Seal is savage against Welders.

Round 6: I beat an elf deck 2-0 via turn 1 guy, turn 2 wire both games.

The coolest part of the tournament was definitely building a deck with Jeff's 6"x9" cards, and then playing it against people. I think some people got pictures. It was great.

I also pwned at Magic Trivia.

Ray used to alternate T1/T2 tourneys, but I believe that stopped after he started allowing the proxies in T1 for higher attendance.

That was my fish deck, lent to Neil the day of. Its a close build to Dan's, but I'm probably a few month's behind him in testing/tweaking my build.

DIEATOG is probably a more appropriate name for the deck, even though it got made before tog was around. If we made the deck now, thats totally what its name would be.

Well, I support the sentiment, but "Eon Blue Apocalypse" is the best deck name I've seen in a long, long time.

Or, to put it another way,
DIEATOG =
Eon Blue Apocalypse =

I only had an oldish sideboard handy, not expecting to have to use the deck.  I filled it up with what I could, but Neil couldn't be bothered to find some blasts to fill it out.  Instead he insists on using his one copy of Bribery, with dreams of snagging someone's morphling.  Sigh.  So I sifted through some random stuff and left him to his fate...

Heh...

Looks like a great tourney Ray, are you planning #3? I'd like to see it on a saturday- just my .02.

I see Gat dominates another tourney, giving me mixed feeling being a GAT player myself but also showing compassion for the type one enviornment. I don't want to get into a debate over if GAT is too good or not; GAT mirror sux, GAT mirror for a black lotus sux0rzsz.

What decks were able to beat GAT? How did the oath do against GAT and what were the games like?

GAT reminds me alot of TnT/Mask very popular, winning some tourneys, over hyped, and no where near as good as crazed reports suggest. I feel it will pass/burnout and then be like TnT/Mask  decks that see some play in t1 though not a dominating deck as time progresses.

OK, let's see.

Round one, Mykeatog playing the deck that disappeared between rounds two and three.
Man, that was a friggin shame.
There's few things worse than a deck walking away,
especially a deck you love as much as he loved that one.

His turn one Wasteland followed by early Shade tore me up in about a minute and a half first game. Life totals say 20, 16, 12,
For some reason I sided the Null Rods out for Maze of Iths two and three.
Game two his turn one Necro netted him nothing but a low enough life total for Psi Blast and Fire to take him out.
Powder Keg came out to play, but it wasn't enough.
All three Rods back in, along with the two Firewalkers.
I think four Manta Riders and the Disk came out.
Game three was ferocious, but four Fire, three Psi Blast and six Tims are pretty good against black's creatures.

Round two I had Lou playing Nether Void.
My deck handed me a fistfull of Razorfin Hunters and his deck handed him Hypnotic Specters.
He couldn't keep a creature on the table.
End of game one he commented on not seeing his Voids.
Since he mentioned it, the three Psi Blasts and the Disk came out for the two Mazes, the third Rod and a random Extract.
The ever so cheap Manta Riders stayed in.
My deck handed me more Razorfins and his life total went quickly down by small increments.
Neither of us saw his deck's namesake during the match.

Round three I had SummenSaugen, my second match against a fellow member of the Hadley Crew.
He's got a detailed report on this one in the nonmember forum, under Stoopid Madness.
Lion's Eye Diamond deck, closely related to Toronto Stompy and the Oath Of Scholars deck I built last year.
Wheel of Fortune (pop the LED in response) was a great addition.
I smashed him soundly game one.
Rod and Disk traded places, two Mazes and Manta Riders likewise.
He smashed me soundly game two.
Ray called the five minute warning, and Ben suggested we draw,
but what the hell, I wanted him to go for it.
I was at one when turn five ended.

Round four I had Mike playing Trix.
Quiet guy, just played his Islands, some of which were also Mountains.
Game one I MisD'd an early Ancestral.
I got him down to five and suddenly he was at twenty five.
Unfortunately for him, I was swinging for 14 points a turn,
and I had enough mana to upkeep the Illusions for the two turns that I controlled it.
Maze and Rods out, Disk and Extracts in.
Game two he comboed me out in no time at all.
Game three he countered and Red Blasted pretty much everything I played,
but a Curious Fish and then a couple of manlands pecked him down to zero while he wasn't looking.
There was a little confusion at the end where he Fired a point to my swinging Faerie Conclave and a point to me,
and in response I Fired a point to the Conclave and a point to him with his life total at one.
He Thwarted and scooped up his lands.
I didn't see the Thwart and thought he was folding.
We got it straightened out, but then he didn't draw an answer and Mishra's Factory finished the job.

Round five I had my third Hadley Crew matchup, BillTheDuck playing EBA.
He was totally in, but I could still miss, so we played it.
The first game was to the wire, with Meddling Mages out sitting Psionic Blast and Fire/Ice and Negator keeping them company.
One and then two Mishra's and a Maze kept them at bay while something flitted over their heads,
but they slipped through the cracks a few times when I had to tap to play stuff.
His last all out attack put me at 1 when he Wasted the Maze.
My next attack killed him.
I sided out the Rods for the Mazes, stayed with one Disk.
The second game he got an Ophidian and I got 3 Lord Of Atlantis and a stream of Fish.
My life total went 19 (Flooded Strand), 23, 27, 31.
His didn't.

Roche and I drew in, and I collapsed in the hallway.
Paxton asked me at one point if I liked playing Fish better than the Little Black Deck I used to play.
I told him that spending the day playing One Fish, Two Fish was a bit like spending a day with your nuts in a vise.
It's a bloody exhausting deck.
Every game's a rush, though.

Top 8 Roche and I squared off.
He's a trash talking fiend, but I got a couple good shots in.
I totally enjoyed playing against him.
Game one my life total says 19, Tog.
Two Rods and two Riders out, two Mazes, a Disk and Tradewind Rider in.
Game two Curious Islandwalkers ate him.
Game three he kept a six card no land hand.
I started out godlike and then stalled.
My Disk walked straight into Daze.
My two Maze Of Ith and zero creatures met a huge Will involving Strip Mine, Time Walk and a million other spells with Tog and Dryad already on the table.

My first Waterbury tourney was over.

With little time to spare, I throw together my decks and start the trip on down.  I soon realize for my ankh sligh, i do not have pyroblasts nor rack or ruin, so there goes that deck out the window so I goto my trusty unpowered oath and turn it powered with the proxies, sadly enough I had to proxy a mystical tutor and not a woodripper for board, grr...Anyways I get their like 15 min late and frantically put my deck and board together and get paired for round one.

Round 1-Ankh Sligh
I went 2-0 and it was all about casting the oath when he had a creature out and countering his burn.  game 2 I board in some hate, Akroma, mmmm, I actually get to use her and she does the job just fine.

Round 2-Straight up burn-Kelly
She starts off with 2 barb rings, and a bunch of burn, I let a lot go through b/c I have an oath out, but soon decide I must hard cast a feeder and then morph.  I am at 8, she is at 12, she blasts, i mis'd to her and she barbs me for 4, 4-8, morph finishes.  Game 2, out come oaths and phids come in with a bunch of other crap.  She draws one land the game, I have an active library and I kill her with ophidian, w00t.

Round 3-Mono Brown Crazzzzzeeeeeeneeeeesssss
Nothing spectacular in my hand, a keg and some drawing so I keep.  Out comes metal worker with an early jug and snake basket.  He pops it for 11, I keg them away, he does it again, I cry and loose, I got the oath, but too late.  In comes maze, out mis'd.  Basically he forces out an early def grid, then another, I am stoping him with a maze(he has mishras), but he gets his crazy basket so I having an oath decide to intuition for my morph, feeder and mishras, he gives me morph so i dont transfer counters to an oathed up weaver.  Then I got CAPPED, JESTER'S CAP!  He pulls out my weaver and 2 blessings, I ask him to pop his basket for one so I can oath my deck and draw out, he does and we laugh.

Round 4-TnT-Lord of Goats-where is my woodripper???
See his report.

Round 5-Nick Axel-Mask-WOODRIPPER!!!!!
Basically I control game one and win.  Game 2 he goes, swamp, rit, planar void, oww, mask, double oww.  He says thats pretty much game, but I argue I can work around a planar.  Second turn he goes Cursed Totem, OWW.  Asks me about that, I say I never concede, always play it out.  Third turn, face down card for 1, NO!!!.  Basically I won that game by intuitioning for my maze and stalling it untill I hard casted a feeder and keged for 2 knocking out his mask and cursed, oath into a morph and that is game.

Round 6-PandeBurst
All I can say was confusion game 1 and game 2 was sealed with back to basics.

Round 7-EBA-Bill the Duck
See his matchup.  I would just like to add that Holistic Wisdom, my MvP is a house and saved me game one when I use my DUMBEST card, Miri's Guile to save my ass.  I draw into the guile and get my second counter on keg and pop it to get rid of pesky meddling mage that has an oath blocked, mage is gone, I wisdom my guile out for my original oath that got duressed away opening hand and win.

Round 8-Tog
I am sure he has posted a match or will post one, read his as I have the worst memory.  All I can say is that game 1 and 2 were not good draws for me.  Game 2 started good, 3 mazes out stalled, but I didnt take off fast due to the fact my first turn library was slowed up by his duress and me needing to force, and when i did get my library active, I had 7 lands the whole time for like 5 turns.  He walks, and yawgs and walks again.  I tip my hat to you, well played.

Very good in my opinion for my first real big tourny in a looooong time since I was like 14 at Ron's old tournies, maybe some of you might remember those.  Thnx for the fun games and meeting all the people.  I look forawrd to the next tourny.  Check my sig, its funny

Did you know that some versions of EBA run Yawgmoth's Bargain?

Crazy, I tell you.

I promised Nick I would make the next Hadley IF it was held on the day I knew I could come and possibly if it was another day I was off. Wink

Actually, I was discussing this with Moobius after the tournament, and that play wasn't quite as good as it looked--he can still pay 1 life to draw a card during your draw phase, so it isn't a complete lock.

Acctually, we also realized that after the game had ended between rounds.  That doesn't take away the funny though.  Come on!

I never said it wasn't funny.  It definitely deserved the Play of the Day.

His opponent had out Chains of Mephistopheles and no cards in hand, so Jared donated his Yawgmoth's Bargain.
