Long Island and New York City players, there will be a *sanctioned* Type I at the I-CON Sci-Fi Convention on Sunday, March 30 at 12 NOON. I-CON is being held on the campus of Stony Brook University, located a ways out on Long Island. Come out and make this a big event.\n\n

Just to add to this thread, since Ed beat me to it   , I will be a vendor at ICON this year, so all who know me stop by and say hello.

ALSO:

Saturday, March 29th at 12 Noon:

If there are at least 20 players, I will hold a non-sanctioned, 5 proxy type 1 tournament for a Mox Ruby and a Mana Drain.  I believe the entrance fee will be approximately $10, but it may vary depending on the amount of players that show up.  For example, if 40 players show up to play, I may reduce it to $5 or add a twister to the prize, etc.

On another note, ICON is an amazing convention, and if you are interested in Sci-Fi or Fantasy and in the area, then I highly reccommend that you check it out.  It attracts over 4,000 people each year, and there are many famous guests that attend.

Also, if you want to get your Moats and Swords to Plowshares signed, Jeff A. Menges will be there signing.

Hope to see some TMDers there!

I'll be there
and on a sidenote, for those of you who are just reading this post and not checking out iconsf.org, alongside the T1 tournys (very cool on Jeff's part for the prizes), there will be the JSS there and booster drafts and multiplayer games all weekend long.

See you all there =)

Urza's:  I am not sure of the exact location of the tournament as yet, but it will be where the other magic events are going on.  It's probably in the Student Union building.

As far as the prizes go, I think that we'll get 20 people (I already know like 6 that are going), but if we get at least 10 I will put up an Unlimited Timetwister.

So, as it stands right now:

20 People:

1st Place:   Mox Ruby
2nd Place:  English Mana Drain
3rd and 4th: To be decided

10-19 People:

1st Place:   Timetwister
2nd Place:   Something to be decided

And you can be damn sure that if we randomly wind up getting like 50 players, there will be more added to the prizes, like a Library, etc.  Basically, I want the prize structure to be sound.  I dont want first place to get a Lotus and 2 Libraries while 5th place gets $30 and 16th gets $23 like what happened in Syracuse.

Hope to see you there, it will be a lot of fun.  And don't forget the sanctioned t1 by Alex Schvartsman on Sunday!

I figured since ICON is 1 day away, just thought I'd up the post to ensure everyone gets another look at it. I hope we get a big turnout, and can't wait to see everyone =)

I don't think any of us can actually answer that, as an event like this has never really happened here before.  I am sure there will be plenty of scrubs to beat up on, but there will be some tough competition as well.  I would expect some Ankh Sligh, Fish, Turboland, GAT, and Keeper.  I know people that have workshops, so there might be some TnT, but I don't think it will make much of an appearance.  However, there are 5 proxies allowed (subject to inspection), so I guess anything can be played.

By the way...

Make sure to stop by my booth (#169 The Strategy Game Corner) in the vendor's area so I can meet all you people that I don't know.

I will be wearing a badge that says Samite Healer as well.

Today I went to the sanctioned Type I at ICON, run by Alex Shvartsman. The format was single-elimination, which is actually a fun change of pace every once in awhile from Swiss-style events. You lose, you are out, one and done. No margin for error. I was playing Ankh Sligh as usual. Rounds one and two were no trouble as my opponents were extremely weak. Round three is where the tournament got interesting, as I was facing Brian (Scaldmonger) and his Fish deck. I won a tough match 2-1, thanks to the eight-blast sideboard. The first game was decided by my unchecked Cursed Scrolls along with a considerable amount of Ankh damage. The second game went to Brian, as he gained a quick advantage and held onto it with Standstills, which proved to be too much along with Chill. I came out fast in the third game with a couple of early creatures and a blast to keep Chill off the board, and the game was quickly over from there as I had a decent amount of burn to finish things.

The fourth round was the finals. I was facing Jeremy (3libras), playing GAT, obviously a very bad matchup. The first game went to Jeremy, as he was able to overcome my first-turn Ankh by getting a very quick lethal Psychatog. I fought back in the second game, coming out fast with a couple of creatures and an Ankh. Jeremy got a Psychatog out, but I chumped it with a Goblin Cadets to stay alive for one more turn. I then had just enough direct damage to squeeze this game out. However, the third game was quick and brutal. Going second, I had a couple of early Jackal Pups and an Ankh, but a Dryad got too big, too fast. I tried to Bolt it, but it was Misdirected to a Pup. From there, I had nothing left in my hand except for Mountains (the Dryad was out of control anyway by this point), and the Dryad closed things out. Well done, Jeremy, congratulations on winning the tournament.\n\n

Glad you were there Ed, I think this was my first sanctioned tournement i've ever won. You really earned that win in the second game. I just wished I would have done that well in the tournement the previous day for the ruby.

Yeah fish really did, and there were also 2... And i got to play both! and lose to both! yay! I would play fish in the waterbury tournaments (and hopefully fairlawn soon), but theres always about 3-4 TnT there, and i dont see how fish can POSSIBLY beat tnt, and i heard its basically a no win chance for fish. But its a very good deck, and im glad you won. what took second?

Second was that green stompy deck. Not exactly what I expected, but hey it got the job done for him. TnT is most likely an awful match for Fish, but I have been fortunate enough to not have seen it more than once at NG ever. I guess my only chance would come in the form of a very well thought out sideboard strategy. But until then, not worth the testing.
