Hello,

Another week, another tourney Smile
Yesterday I went to a local Type I tourney in Mol (Belgium).
I played Vengeur Masqué with minor changes; I put a main deck Flowstone Hellion to kill in one turn like in Full English Breakfast.

4 Birds of Paradise
2 Quirion Ranger
4 Survival of the Fittest
3 Wall of Roots

1 Flowstone Hellion
1 Squee, Goblin Nabob

1 Ancestral Recall
3 Brainstorm
4 Force of Will
1 Gilded Drake
2 Misdirection
1 Morphling
1 Time Walk
1 Voidmage Apprentice
3 Volrath's Shapeshifter

1 Black Lotus
4 Illusionary Mask
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Sapphire
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought

1 Flooded Strand
4 Forest
3 Island
1 Polluted Delta
1 Strip Mine
4 Tropical Island
1 Windswept Heath
2 Wooded Foothills

Sideboard:
1 Elvish Lyrist
1 Genesis
2 Nantuko Vigilante
1 Ravenous Baloth
2 Uktabi Orangutan
1 Squee, Goblin Nabob
3 Back to Basics
1 Tradewind Rider
1 Waterfront Bouncer
1 Bottle Gnomes
1 Masticore

We arrived late, and I need to get a couple of fetch lands, so we were a bit in a rush. Fortunately, the TO took it well and the atmosphere was quite friendly (REL 1, k-value 16).

I came with Geoffrey Siron who borrowed me Ankh Sligh and Alexandre Darras, who like last week in Venice, took my cards to play Devil's Bile (Nether Void).

Round 1: Ralph Vercauteren - Sligh
Game 1 is rather fast.He drops Fanatic, I play a Wall of Roots. He attacks, I block, he casts Blood Frenzy to kill the wall and bring me to 19. In my turn, I play another Wall and Survival. He has more weenies, I drop a turn 4 Mask and Dreadnought. He dies on my sixth turn.
Game 2, he drops a mountain turn 1 but doesn't cast anything. I play Mox Sapphire, Forest and cast Birds of Paradise. End of turn, he bolts me, I Ancestral myself. My second turn is not bad: Mask and 2 Noughts. That's a turn three kill, folks!

2-0, 3 points.

Round 2: Dennis Gabriëls - Ankh Sligh
I have to mulligan down to 5, which makes Dennis turn 1 Vise rather ineffective. I hit a land pocket and can't match his offense composed of Raging Goblin, Pups and Fanatics.
Game 2, he starts with a Pup, then a Mogg Fanatic to shoot my Quirion Ranger. I then get a Survival on the board, get Wall of Roots to stabilize and take control of the game.
Game 2 sees Dennis with a good start: turn 1 Pup, turn 2 Ankh of Mishra. Mine is not bad either: turn 1 Survival, turn 3 a 12/12 Volrath's Shapeshifter. I attack him twice to win the race.

2-1, 6 points.

Round 3: Time Steurs - recursion control
Tim is playing a Twister.dec, but modified to his taste.
My turn 2 and turn 3 Survivals are countered with Force of Will. My turn 4 Shapeshifter is REBed, my turn 5 as well (thanks to Yawgmoth's Will), but this time I have the mana to discard a Wall of Roots to counter the Red Elemental Blast. I then discard a Gilded Drake and attack 6 times for the win. Tim is not focused on this match as he could have used his Strip Mine to one of my lands to reduce the Shapeshifter to a 0/1. He also forgot to cycle some lands with the Trade Routes that I chose not to counter (since I had no other creature to discard to the Shapeshifter).
In the second game, Tim starts with City of Brass and Gorilla Shaman. He forgets to drop lands from there on for a long time. My turn 2 Mask meets Force of Will, as my turn 3 Mask. But the turn 4 Survival hits as well as the turn 5 Back to Basics (I had to wait for Tim to tap his City of Brass to avoid REBs).
I survival into Tradewind to keep him low on lands and get out a Shapeshifter which soon attacks for 12 a turn.
2-0, 9 points.

Round 4: Bart Froyen - Mono-blue
Things starts well for me as my turn 1 Survival resolves, ask does a Mask. 12/12 beatdown follows.
Game 2 goes his way when he Drains and Force of Will my two Survivals on turn 3.
The 2 colourless from the Drain allow him to drop a Morphling. He plays carefully, not pumping the Morphling, plays Back to Basics to slow me down and adds a Masticore to put the pressure on me. My Shapeshifter can't cope with his creatures as I don't topdeck a Dreadnought.
Game 3 is a slaughter: turn 1 Mask, turn 2 a couple of Dreadnought, turn 3 swing for 24.
2-1, 12 points.

Round 5: Koen Braspennincx - GrowAtog
My hand consist of: Lotus, Brainstorm, 2 Misdirection, Survival, Island, Wooded Foothills. I play Lotus, sac for green to play Survival (resolves), play Brainstorm to get a creature to discard to fetch Squee. He had to mulligan to 6 but gets a good hand. He drops land, Mox Sapphire and cast Ancestral. I misdirects it and that's basically game. I play a second turn Shapeshifter and kill him 2 turns later.
Game 2 he starts with a fetch land. My 8th card is a Lotus that I use to play a turn 1 Mask (but I have no creature). he drops a land turn 2 and passes. I strip his Underground Sea, he takes 2 mana in his pool and cast Gush, followed by Naturalize on the Mask. He plays a turn 4 Dryad. I play Survival and another Mask. He plays Psychatog while I drop humble 0/1s Wink I attack him with a Dreadnought, he let it go. I counter his Submerge on my 0/1 by flip it: it's a Voidmage Apprentice. He still attacks for 7 with his Dryad. I then attack again with the Dreadnought. He has to chump-block with the Tog. He concedes in his main phase. He points out that since I didn't use the Mask I cast turn 1, he should have kept the Naturalize for Survival, hoping I don't topdeck a Dreadnought.
2-0, 15 points.

Round 6: Yorik Pieters - Tools 'n Tubbies
He gets a great start with turn 1 Survival, turn 2 Welder that he activates to get Juggernaut and swings for 5. I get a turn 2 Morphling (without Lotus), but can't match the flow of Tubbies.
Game 2 start strong as well as I get a turn 1 Mask while he Ancestrals himself. On my second turn, I drop a Dreadnought and Survival While he gets Survival. He can't cope with my 12/12.
Game 3 is another good start for him with a first turn Survival, turn 2 Welder used to fetch Trike from the graveyard and hit for 4. Another 4 on turn 3. I then play Gilded Drake on the Welder, but it's too late as Yorik hard casts a Phyrexian Colossus, kills one of my blockers with Trike so I only have 2, and hits for more than enough with Colossus and Gilded Drake.
Not much to do against such draw.
1-2, 15 points.

There are 4 people at 5-1-0 but since I lost only the last one, I've got the highest resistance and take first, while Koen (round 5, GrowAtog) takes second, Yorik (round 6, TnT) takes 3rd and Geoffrey (playing Ankh Sligh) takes 4th.

Thanks to Magicclub Mol for a nice tournament (and the NM Moat Wink

Cheers,
