Magic Type I Tournament
Entrance Fee: $10.00
Starts at 1:00pm, although it always starts a little later since Jason waits for "stragglers."

I'm not sure what the prize is, but there has always been power. Since he doesn't post prizes on the site, it could be anything from a Beta Ancestral to an Unlmited Twister, although any power is good enough for me . Second place is generally about $50 store credit.

http://www.nggnet.com/dreamers/default.htm is the website.

I hope to see you there!

Hey all, I top 4'd the tourney.  Here's a brief report of it.

I played RG Beatz, list follows.

 Mana
        4 Wooded Foothills
        4 Taiga
        4 Treetop Village
        4 Wasteland
        3 Forest
        3 Mountain
        1 Strip Mine
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Mox Emerald
        1 Mox Ruby
 Burn
        4 Incinerate
        4 Lightning Bolt
        4 Cursed Scroll
        1 Chain Lightning
 Creatures
        4 River Boa
        4 Kird Ape
        3 Call of the Herd
        2 Grim Lavamancer
        1 Gorilla Shaman
 Other
        4 Naturalize
        2 Rancor
        1 Maze of Ith
 Sideboard
        4 Artifact Mutation
        4 Red Elemental Blast
        3 Pyroblast
        2 Tormod's Crypt
        1 Hull Breach
        1 Maze of Ith

Round 1
Chris playing Star Spangled Slaughter
This matchup is pretty bad for Chris because he runs Lightning Angels over Morphlings.
Game 1 - I get some heavy beats in with call tokens and treetops.  Scroll seals the deal.
Game 2 - I'm a little land screwed, so i sit on 2 Pyroblasts for a while.  Eventually i find some mana. and start scrolling him to death.  Maze is very good against Lightning Angels.  Call beats do the dirty work.

Matches 1-0 Games 2-0

Round 2
Academy (forgot your name, sorry)
I shouldn't beat academy, should i?
Game 1 - A Rancor'd Grim Lavamancer comes out turn 1 thanks to an Emerald.  Boa comes down turn 2.  He gets ready to go off, rotating the academy.  I use wasteland and bust that thing away.  He floats 30 in response.  He stalls out and sinks it into monolith.  I burn him out.
Game 2 - I don't get a terribly fast start.  Helms help me cast naturalize on his mind over matter.  He impulses in response.  I Pyroblast for some reason, hoping to stop a meditate or something..  He twisters.  He draw 5 land   .  I get 3 turns, bring him to 1.  I cast Lightning Bolt.  He has to tap his last 2 blue sources to force.  I incinerate, that's game.

Matches 2-0 Games 4-0

Round 3
Mike playing Gro-a-Tog
My worst matchup in the tournament because i took 2 mazes and 3 scalds out of my sideboard before the tourney (those crypts will be mazes next time).
Game 1
I get the aggro god hand.  But Gro-a-Tog likes playing against sheer aggro.  I come 5 damage short on turn 4 and 'serks a tog for 26.
Game 2
He gets a tog, I get a maze.  He gets another tog and starts pinging me down.  A third tog comes down on his side.  I rip the second maze off the top and start looking for the Red Blast to stop the tog beatings.  It doesn't come and I lose to a 4/4 tog after both my attempts to shoot him down are misdirection'd to me.  The other 2 were 5/6 Berserkers.  He played extremely well in this match and my deck didn't give me much to win it.

Matches 2-1 Games 4-2

Round 4
Nick playing URphidian
I get paired up and try to convince Nick to draw with me into top 8.  He doesn't want to meet me in top 8 and no 6's will likely get in so he tries to knock me out of the tourney.
Game 1 - Nick plays a first turn sapphire wasteland.  I look at my hand and decide to waste his waste, fearing the mana leak.  He drops Shivan Reef next turn.  I waste that.  He drops a strip.  It meets another waste.  He's looking frustrated as he misses his next land drop.  I play the Kird Ape and start the beats.  Nick never recovers and i take the game after awhile.
Game 2 - I get a very slow start.  His fourth turn Ophidian is met by my call.  He control magic's it.  I Red Blast the Control Magic after he attacks with the 'phid.  Go card advantage.  That swung the match and he wasn't able to recover without the 'phids drawing power.  2 Elephants and an ape finish him off.

Top 8
1 vs 8 Mike, with GaT against, URphidian
2 vs 7 Derek, with Mask against Tim with Keeper
3 vs 6 Jason, with Trix against Craig, with Mask
4 vs 5 Me, with RG Beatz against Nick, with URphidian

I'm not exactly sure of the seedings as I didn't get a look at the top 8 pairings.

Quarterfinals
Nick, again, with URphidian
Funny that his not drawing with me put him here, while a draw would have seen me meeting with mike, playing GaT, my only bad matchup in the top 8.
Game 1 - Nick didn't see a Morphling and Control Magic didn't stick around (if he saw it).  So i won the game.  Don't really remember this one.
Game 2 - I didn't do anything for 5-6 turns really.  I eventually summoned a creature or 2 and Nick played Morphling.  With him at 18, i have 4 turns to kill him. Hah!
Game 3 - I countered 4-5 of his spells and kept on swinging with creatures.  Two desperation Morphlings got countered this game.

1 Mike beats URphidian
2 Craig beats Jason
3 Tim beats Derek
4 I defeated Goddrey

Semifinals
Mike (again) playing Gro-a-Tog
How i loathe this matchup without Scalds.
Game 1 - He stomps me while sitting at 5 life.
Game 2 - I somehow manage to shuffle the 4 naturalizes i sideboarded out into my deck.  My opening hand has 2.  I got trashed because of my paris to 5   .  I shouldn't win this matchup with just the 7 blasts.  He ended up around 10 and i died to a berserked Psychatog.

Tim beat Craig and I left after that so I'm not sure who won.  A note, Tim's Keeper was heavier white and was running Future Sight and Moat.  A good call for today's environment.

Props
Derek for lending me the Ruby
Jason Webster, for running another excellent tournament and putting up a nice prize once again.
Me for being the only aggro in top 8

Slops
Nick, for not drawing with me
Pairings for giving me my only bad matchup in top 8 in semis instead of finals
Me for shuffling part of my sideboard back in my deck.

Darn, I missed the tournament . I couldn't get a ride. I was planning on playing Parfait, but I was tossing back and forth between my powerless Eternal wind version as well. Although I usually just go to watch...

Once again, I find that another person on TMD lives in Minneapolis . I thought I was so isolated . I'm going to actually have to identify you people? For any who don't know (probably all of you), I'm the short kid with close to shoulder length hair and the blue "Burton XIII" sweatshirt (Its good luck ). The only other person I know on TMD that I've seen is Methausalaun (sorry if I buthered your name ).

Congratulations though! I'm glad to see that aggro is still doing well in this metagame!

The Academy game was funny though. RG Beatz winning against Academy 2-0? Heheh.

Many of us in the Minneapolis T1 croud get together on Tuesday evenings just to playtest.  We show up at Dreamers after work and just play for a few hours.  I am generally the first to arrive at approximately 4ish, others trickle in as the evening progresses.  Attendance can be spotty and weather dependent.  However there is a standing invitation for anyone who wants to stop by and play a few matches.  Its a good chance to playtest and meet your fellow ManaDrainers.

And the winner is...

Mike White (playing GAT) who beat Tim ?? playing a form of keeper futuresight/morphling.

It was an interesting match with mike going 2-0.  the first game was interesting, but the second wasn't as he mulliganed once to a first turn fastbond, gush, vampiric....etc.

LOTS of smacktalk.  that was funny.
