The Power 9 Are:

Mox Emerald
Mox Pearl
Mox Jet
Mox Ruby
Mox Sapphire
Black Lotus
Ancestral Recall
Timetwister
Time Walk

Library of Alexandria is sometimes referred to as Power 10.

As for a link, maybe someone else would do the honors?

Yeah, you can proxy LoA in a tournament that allows proxies for the P10. (See the thing about the T1 Tournament in New Hampshire on the main page.)
I think sometimes other cards are referred to as the tenth, like Tolarian Academy...

Nah.  Academy's a good card sure, but it doesn't have the power of Library of Alexandria, unless of course you are playing an Academy deck.  But as for proxies, you'd have to ask the organizers of the tournament so that their proxy rules are clear.

yea basically they are the 10 best cards in MTG, other than the obvious LANDS, that are pretty much required in any strong T1 environment.  although this is unfortunate, as it makes the game less interesting for those who don't have thousands of dollars to spend on cards, it is somewhat necessary to own these to be able to make all of those fancy decks out there.

If you don't own power, there aren't too many great decks available to you in tourny play (T1).

Imagine what it would be like without power...?? Hmm, makes MTG a more fun, harder to learn/play game??  You can't depend on your infinite mana as much first turn, or your first - third turn combo decks.  No longer can you counter everything cast with mana drains and drop turn 2 morphlings.  Interesting...yet all of the people who wasted their money on these cards would be pissed off (and rightly so), so if you can't afford power, play extended or type 2 or something, cuz type 1 tournies are usually dominated by those with more $$ tied up in the game =P

Play 1.5, you don't have to worry about the power.  The most expensive things in T1.5 are moats, drains, and the abyss, and most decks dont even use those.  1.5 is more fun than extended, and costs less than T1

I totally disagree with xrobx.

The P10 are the power cards of magic for more reasons than sheer power: They are also because of their limited print run and because of ... habit!

Timetwister is the most glaring example, it is almost not played anymore and is in about the same bracket as Wheel of Fortune and Memory Jar. The difference is that Timetwister is a rare from Alpha/Beta/Unlimited and discontinued afterwards which means there are only about 20.000 of these in existance.

There are even cheaper cards like Regwoth, Demonic Tutor and Sol Ring that are definately as powerful as the actual "Power" cards. Many cards from the Urza block come close, too, but they have even bigger printruns.

And, about habit, they just have this legendary status and are called Power9/10 out of tradition, if cards were printed in a different chronological order or rarity we would call other cards "power". Imagine Dark Ritual, Yawgmoth´s Will or Balance as discontinued rares from Alpha/Beta/Unlimited and you get the picture.

I would also like to stress the fact that alothough some decks cannot be played without power and although most decks benefit from power, they are in no way unbeatable or absolutely mandatory to play Type I.
Note for example that LoA does not make sense in any aggro-deck. ANd that one half of the power cards are the Moxes. Moxes are great in many ways but the one fact that make them "power" is: They have many small advantages but virtually no drawback. Thus, you can put it in your deck, replacing a basic land, and have improved your deck. But, this improvement is -compared to the money a Mox costs- very small. Yes, if you play on a very high level, then you need to have them because you can improve without drawback. But, as anyone who purchased his first Mox would tell you, adding a single Mox to your deck doesn´t do much. You simply can´t exspect from a mox an improvement of your deck 10 times bigger than from a card smallerr card just because the Mox is worth 10 times more.

That the legendary Power cards are absolutely necessary for Type I is one of the big prejudices of Type I that keeps players away from it and I don´t appreciate it here in the forum for newcomers. This topic may be debateable, so let me close it with this: The myth about the P10 is of course not unfounded but also exaggerated. You´ll find players of all calibres saying this and that, some think they are mandatory, some say they are not, but almost every serious Type I player would admit that deckbuilding skills, knowledge of the format, playing skills and correct metagaming are far more important than owning power. If you don´t believe me, check out what Gorilla Shaman does to Moxes, figure out how long Library of Alexandria stays on the table in an environment where everybody packs a Strip Mine and X Wastelands and ask Keeper players how much advantage they have above cheap aggro decks like Sligh/SRB, Suicide Black or Stompy although Keeper is worth 10-100 times worth more.

I agree with Pusch-
I think people are scared away because they think they are gonna get killed in the first 3 turns by a few moxes and a power card.  Im seriously thinking of building a stasis-like deck because I can get most the cards for cheap because no one is playing them.  I mean sure, im not gonna win a tourney or anything, but its more fun to build a deck and not have to change it so it can fit the new restrictions (like in t2, extended etc.).  If more people start playing t1/1.5 i might catch on.
