Author Topic: Help with an Academy Rector/ Dream Halls rogueDeck  (Read 796 times)

I'm trying to make this deck work for the tournaments at the local card shop. One or two people have power but most of the people there are relatively casual players like me. This deck works to get the rectors out and then beat down with them or have the opponent kill them. Hopefully, the latter. Then get dream halls and time stretch and searing wind for the kill. I made sure to put in lots of card drawing, both for the rectors and for the kill cards later as well as lot's of creature protection as right now, speedy creatures seem to pose problems. Just seeing what I can get rid of... 66 right now.  Trying to make it a little more efficient/better. Any advice is helpful but I'm still working on putting this together and don't have too much money so keep that in mind. Thanks a lot

You need a reliable way of killing your own rectors, so you're guranteed to use their ability. The Bargain Decks of "combo winter" used Phyrexian Tower to sacrifice them, which may work here as well. Claws of Gix is another option.

Keep the Demonic, but put in several copies of Diabolic Intent. Remember, sacrificing creatures is a cost, so even if they counter the intent, the Rector is already gone.

Also, you NEED Yawgmoth's Bargain. It is insane, especially with Dream Halls. You can intent, to rector a Halls, and then use the halls to drop the bargain that you fetched with the intent. Throw in a few Gerrard's Wisdoms, and you can draw and cast your entire deck. It would be sick.

You don't need 4 copies of the stretch or the Wind, as long as you have Bargain. Also, cut the Fog Banks, browbeats, howling mines, and sickening plague. and feldon's cane.
Add lotus petal, maybe some Elvish Spirit Guides, 4x Swords to plowshares, and maybe some diabolic edicts. Also, make room in the manabase for more black, and add dark rituals. Turn 2, ritual/rector is always fun.

Suffocating Blast is bad--Mana Leak would fit better with your mana base, and is just more useful (not everyone will always have out a creature).

That's it for now, but there are some fixes for your sideboard that I'll suggest after you make these changes.

Would Cabal Therapy help sac the Rectors?

Perhaps check the other Dream Hall threads by using the "Search" function at top right.

You might try the Intuition/Replenish route, too similar to Pandeburst Combo decks.

What do you guys think of adding a pyromancy or a zombie infestation? or even a sickening dreams...  just to have another kill card...

the reasons I had the suffocating blasts were that I could the rector with them and later I could pitch them to the dream halls for both the stretches and the winds
