Hey all,

In some kind of a "regional invitional" i get to play in, there's gonna be a format "poor man's magic", in which everything is allowed, except you cannot use rares and there's a maximum of 5 uncommons.

I thought I'd ask you, as i figure there must be some very powerful decks with just commons of that you would happen to know of. (I only play extended/standard/limited, so i don't know much of the older sets & cards...)

Thanks!

Try using the "search" button in the casual mill--look for "peasant magic" or something similar (you could also try stuff like "all-commons")

One quick thing, before you even start searching: Those tournaments are traditionally filled with mono-colored beatdown decks, red being the most popular, then black, then green.

So, if everybody just goes by intuittion and plays burn, you should go there with a meta-deck: Mono-White with Rune of Protections, mini-rebel-chain that run Nightwin Glider and his twin and Cho-Mannos Blessing which could even brak the Mirror!

If they are prepared better which means if there are more metagame decks like this, play red-green and include some artifact creatures.

The format you describe is most commonly known as peasant magic.  Depending on the rules you are playing under some very powerful decks can be created.  The "official" rules for this format is that cards are treated as being the best commonality (meaning if a card appears as both an uncommon and a common, all copies of the card are counted as commons).  This means that Strip Mine and Mishra's Factory are both commons in peasant magic, since they were both printed once on the Antiquities common sheet.

I'd say one of the best ways to go could be mono-black.  You get to play with Hymn to Tourach, Sinkhole, Strip Mine, Mishra's Factory, Order of the Ebon Hand, Ritual, Phyrexian War Beast...

Do a search on google or something for Peasant Magic and you'll run across quite a few good articles on it.
